Haven't seen anyone under 35 wearing deck shoes, recently.

I'm a good bit under 35 and have been wearing them everyday for years.

People obviously have no taste in shoes if they don't think Dubarrys look great

Dubarrys don't support your feet and the laces come undone quickly unless you tie reef knots in them and they are completely useless for wearing while sailing. The boots are ok and if you need them repaired, you can drop them into their shop on College Green.
There is a really good brand of American deck shoe called Seabago Docksides which you can't get here anymore - they last for years.

If you want to look like a teenage jock from Dublin then they look great

    Otherwise, no.

Well I've yet to find a shoe I think looks better with jeans or chinos. Really like the look of them and they are super comfy.

If you wear deck shoes and an upturned collar you are a complete cunt.

If you have a wallet on a chain you are a cunt
If you wear a Linkin Park hoodie you are a cunt
If you wear I dunno, big shoulder pads you are a cunt

Are we just complaining about fashions that haven't been done in over ten years now?

I had to google them... I think they're grand. I'd wear them.
Doc Martins are fùckin atrocious though.

Everyone has different tastes on what they think looks good.... labelling someone a cuńt for what they like to wear (unless it's a R*ngers jersey or an Orange order sash) is stupid.

    ^^^ what he said.

I kind of get the impression that insecure people need other people to do the same things /wear the same things as themselves to give them reassurance that they are right/ popular/ understand current memes. Consequently they consider people who do something different must be wrong, to bolster their (the insecure person's) own sense of rightness.

Occasionally there are times where a dress code is useful in creating an ambiance at an event, generally though it does not matter a damn what people wear, and to criticise a brand just because it is not what has been declared stylish is simply evidence of brain-washing by media.

Woooaaa, hold your horses. Unless it's a Rangers jersey? Aren't you contradicting yourself there?

Celtic shirts are fine are they?

I've never worn a pair. I see secondary school students wearing them though, must be part of a uniform.

Is there any reason they are called deck shoes (and boat shoes) and does the lace round the shoe serve any function?

I usually have a couple of pairs on the go, they're light, comfortable and at the same time well-made. Don't diss the focking Dubes, roysh! :D

When I said earlier that deck shoe wearers were cunts and deck shoe wearers with their collar up are complete cunts I was being serious.

If you are wearing Dubarrys every day for years I don't think you're an authority on shoes to be honest, especially if you wear the same pair repeatedly and than replace with another similar pair.

I wear the same ones basically everyday till they are too battered then buy another pair exactly the same to replace them and the older ones get used for around the house and working at home etc.

Well, yes to me obviously they are. ''Twas a joke that sailed high over your head it seems.
Like I said, people should be able to wear what they want.... if you pop up your collar on a polo shirt, look in the mirror and think you look good, then so what? Want to wear deckshoes and chinos? Have at it.
Doc Martins I think are horrendous looking, but I wouldn't label somebody a cùnt for wearing them. Some people are just so judgemental that it serves absolutely no purpose. What does it matter what somebody else is wearing? You don't like it? Fine. Until some gestapo is forcing you to dress the way you don't like then your opinion doesn't matter a jot.

Dubes aren't even made in Ireland anymore. (Portugal I think).

I think if someone describes a person wearing a particluar pair of shoes as a complete cu*t that says more about the poster then the person wearing the shoes. A bit of scale wudnt go amiss.

I passed no comment on the people wearing the shoes, just the shoes themselves!

They are called deck shoes because if you go on to a deck while wearing them you will either break your neck or go overboard. The name is just to constantly remind you in your head not to go on to one, absolutely lethal shoes on a wet surface.

Paul Sperry's original Topsider boat shoe from 1935 was specifically designed to grip boat decks, but real, functioning boat shoes like that wear out in no time flat when used exclusively off boats. Hence the modern Dube's stronger, but less grippy, construction. The idea is for some people to look all "Yachty"! :pac:

I'm not sure if that's a reply to me, but if it is I wasn't talking about your post.

Bonus Berkshire Hunt points for wearing a tight-fitting dark jumper under a Leinster jersey. :D

I remember we were not permitted to wear these at school because the white soles didn't adhere to the uniform rules. So students used to colour the white bits in with black markers. Imagine paying €100+ for shoes and then ruining them with a black marker!

I think there would have been a revolt if they were banned in my school. Such was their popularity, its as if they were part of the uniform.
