Dubarry Deckshoes

Deckshoes. Dubarry ones seem to be the ones to have. Kind of came in with a bang in the early 90s with the rugby jocks, and rugby jock wannabees, as well as lounge drinkers.

School kids of a certain type are still wearing them.

    Horrendous.

Only shoes I've worn day to day for years, love them. Look great and are very comfy. Nicest in brown.

how can poor people afford doc martens?

Always makes me think of Ross O'Carroll-Kelly :pac:
Garret has a moustache ... This is one of those moustaches with the curly ends that hipsters grow when they feel that their passion for independent coffee shops, cross-body bags and bands that no one has ever heard of aren’t getting them enough attention.

The first thing I do, obviously, is laugh in the dude’s face. I’m like, “You really are the most ridiculous person I’ve ever met.”

“Yeah,” he tries to go, “you wouldn’t know anything about it – it’s called style,” and he looks at my chinos and Dubes like he thinks they’re not stylish?

Yeee... With "real" DocMartens costing over €200 a pair I don't think they're for poor kids. Even the MIA (Made In Asia) Docs are over €125 a pair (ok the shoes are about €90)...

Docs aint what they used to be.

They last forever, so they are probably hand-me-downs.

Depends! The 'Vintage/Made in England' docs are made of thicker leather and will last longer.

The regular MadeInAsia Docs dont last near as long as they used to. A pair of 10eye Cherry docs bought last Dec (Dec15) had cracks in the leather by July'16 and the sole is worn down flat.

I did wear them ~5 days a week, but still.

Anyone that I've known that wore decks shoes always had smelly feet. You could smell a horrible odour coming from their shoes if you stood beside them. I don't know if it's a coincidence that the few people I've known with these shoes all were dirty, smelly bastards or if it's a problem with the shoes.

The mother use to bring us over to the Dubarry factory shop in Ballinasloe many years ago when school was starting or there was something on that we had to look respectable for! I use to love the smell of the on site shop.

I love the old Dubarry's shoes so I do.

I wore them in school because they were super comf and hard-wearing. But I wouldn't go near them now as I have developed a sense of style in the interim. I wear comfy AND stylish shoes now.

Are all their items of clothing just, though? They may be wearing unjust socks , or even corrupt and dishonest undercrackers?

If you wear deck shoes and an upturned collar you are a complete cunt.

and it seems to ONLY be Irish people who have latched on to this deckshoe trend...

I wonder are there any Irish bands who could make the Dubarry deckshoe trendy to wear...

My docs cost me $100 in January 2010. One heel is a bit flat, but otherwise they are grand. Not bad considering Ive worn them 7 days a week for 6 months of the year for 6 years.

Also if you register them when you buy them, they come with a lifetime guarantee, so you can get them repaired.

Such nonsense. Typical Irish lad's attitude lol. Not a clue about fashion. Go onto any decent men's fashion website and you'll see Deck shoes never go out of style. Every lad should have a pair in his wardrobe.
Go to England/France or Italy for a weekend. You might learn something.

It's part of the school uniform in Italy? They are not essential fashion wear. No.

You should stop creeping on Italian school children & concentrate on your own wardrobe by the sounds of things.

I'm a good bit under 35 and have been wearing them everyday for years.

People obviously have no taste in shoes if they don't think Dubarrys look great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 889 ✭✭✭cbreeze

Dubarrys don't support your feet and the laces come undone quickly unless you tie reef knots in them and they are completely useless for wearing while sailing. The boots are ok and if you need them repaired, you can drop them into their shop on College Green.
There is a really good brand of American deck shoe called Seabago Docksides which you can't get here anymore - they last for years.

If you want to look like a teenage jock from Dublin then they look great

    Otherwise, no.

I had to google them... I think they're grand. I'd wear them.
Doc Martins are fùckin atrocious though.

Everyone has different tastes on what they think looks good.... labelling someone a cuńt for what they like to wear (unless it's a R*ngers jersey or an Orange order sash) is stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,095 ✭✭✭✭looksee

    ^^^ what he said.

I kind of get the impression that insecure people need other people to do the same things /wear the same things as themselves to give them reassurance that they are right/ popular/ understand current memes. Consequently they consider people who do something different must be wrong, to bolster their (the insecure person's) own sense of rightness.

Occasionally there are times where a dress code is useful in creating an ambiance at an event, generally though it does not matter a damn what people wear, and to criticise a brand just because it is not what has been declared stylish is simply evidence of brain-washing by media.

Woooaaa, hold your horses. Unless it's a Rangers jersey? Aren't you contradicting yourself there?

Celtic shirts are fine are they?

I've never worn a pair. I see secondary school students wearing them though, must be part of a uniform.

Is there any reason they are called deck shoes (and boat shoes) and does the lace round the shoe serve any function?

If you are wearing Dubarrys every day for years I don't think you're an authority on shoes to be honest, especially if you wear the same pair repeatedly and than replace with another similar pair.

I wear the same ones basically everyday till they are too battered then buy another pair exactly the same to replace them and the older ones get used for around the house and working at home etc.

Well, yes to me obviously they are. ''Twas a joke that sailed high over your head it seems.
Like I said, people should be able to wear what they want.... if you pop up your collar on a polo shirt, look in the mirror and think you look good, then so what? Want to wear deckshoes and chinos? Have at it.
Doc Martins I think are horrendous looking, but I wouldn't label somebody a cùnt for wearing them. Some people are just so judgemental that it serves absolutely no purpose. What does it matter what somebody else is wearing? You don't like it? Fine. Until some gestapo is forcing you to dress the way you don't like then your opinion doesn't matter a jot.
