Where did you see this? I don't see anything on their Twitter or website.
I contacted Transport for Ireland and they responded on twitter, but they deleted their response (above) soon after. Obviously someone wasn't meant to reveal d-day to Joe public (sure why would they). Irish rail are keeping schtum; the more the general public harass and contact Irish rail, NTA, Transport for Ireland, local politicians etc (all public bodies/state employees) the sooner they will launch this long overdue service.

Deleted it because it may not happen them. I expect it been that week back in October but wouldn't be surprised if it is delayed now. IE would have to announce it this week if that date was happening or next Monday at latest as they required to give 7 days notice to a timetable change,

Monday 5th December would be where my money would be placed and good reason why as it cannot happen before Dec 1st

Quote from Senator Shane Ross to a general question today

"It is also encouraging to note that Irish Rail is experiencing business growth with increasing passenger journeys. The re-opening of the Phoenix Park tunnel in the coming weeks for commuter services from the Kildare line to the stations between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock and the expansion of DART services to a ten minute frequency will also help to grow the business."

Tax saver Annual Ticket for the PPT commuter line from Sallins/Naas to Connolly will be on sale from 1st December, according to the office.

Sallins/Naas will be in the Short Ho Zone

Of more interest are Newbridge/Kildare to Connolly via PPT Annual taxsaver options which have not yet been published.

I would imagine you add on the current feeder service cost and you won't be far away. €2900 I reckon from Kildare.

I don't think should be a 'surcharge' for using the PPT, it cost relative peanuts to re-open so its not as if they need to recoup any investment.
    I'd expect there won't be a price differential between Newbridge->Heuston and Newbridge->Connolly/Pearse/GCD.

I thought there was a move to increase the fares of longer journeys in the Dublin area?

Annual point 2 point tickets are up 4%.

13 million and one suspects the major drop in Nass revenue will need to be plugged.

13million is spare change to a government
The HSE probably spends more than that on stationary each year

That's great news Jamie 29K. Thanks.

We can now expect the obligatory RTE and other news reporters on the first services asking people '"this cost the taxpayers a fortune...but will you actually use the service?" Like they have done non stop since the DART was open.

I'll never forget the prophecies of doom for the Luas Green Line first day and how RTE got some halfwit in a Dublin GAA jersey and said "but will you actually use it?" to which he replies 'It'll be handy for getting to the sea side.".

Expect more of the same on the 29th

The 13 million here should be fully government funded out of the Capital Plan. Especially considering the benefits from the cost and even more considering how much was thrown at Ennis-Athenry with no problem.

If finding 13 million is such an issue how will DART Underground ever get built?

Nobody is suggesting otherwise but why should you not pay a little extra when you no longer need to change service to get from a to b?

To be clear I am not taking a position as I wont use it often but I also would not expect it to be free or no additional fee.

First fill the trains before pricing them out of existence.

Remember there also works coming up on the M7 between Naas and Newbridge so this will further encourage takeup of the service. The delays on the M7 at peak times are bad enough before the roadworks commence.

And don't forget the IE employee and politician or two, who will show up to claim it was their idea.

I'm sure the difference we are talking about is relatively small. If you don't start off with a price it will be difficult to bring one in over time.

Also bear in mind that Sallins is being reclassified into the short hop suburban fare zone so it will actually be cheaper to travel to Dublin than at present.

I haven't seen any concrete details, but I reckon it could be up to €5 cheaper approx for a return ticket from Sallins to Heuston.

The way in which public transport is charged for is a complete mess in Dublin. No you shouldn't have to pay extra when the "network" is re-organised. Very few people want to get from Sallins to Heuston - they want to get from Sallins to a particular address in Docklands to use an example. The cost to them should not be based on the organisation of a transport network that was decided back in the Victorian era and then slowly dismantled over the following 150 years.

For actual commuters paying to get to work with actual money, what the journey costs is pretty fundamental to the choice of transport mode yet here we are 10 days before the service opens and nobody knows what it is going to cost.

Not disagreeing but expecting to pay the same fee to Heuston as GCD is not right.

Avoiding the Luas crush loads is worth a little extra!

Is the annual ticket from say Drogheda to DubConnolly the same as that from Drogheda to DubPearse?
The person with the latter ticket avoids the fare/crush on whichever bus they'd have to take if there was no rail service from DC to DP.
I'd see this PPT as enabling the same pricing logic to apply, such that Naas to DH would be the same price as Naas to DC.

(Though maybe GCD is one stop too far alright, that does seem reasonable)

There leaving it very late too announce it people who buy weekly of monthly bus tickets certainly wont be using the service the first few days it starts.... i can now see this being written about in the media as a ghost service due to the advertising pitch being far too late

Not really as they will announce it on Monday (7 days notice required) and TBH a lot of annuals will be converting over the next few weeks. I wouldn't expect the media to pick up on low numbers at all. They will likely be doing a launch piece but that's it.

I hope your right theres no reason these services shouldent be packed even off peak these trains are at least 10 minuites faster then the bus serivice from the adamstown and clondalkin/fonthill area and multiples of that at peak
