Its hilarious that for a group of people complain about special snowflakes and being pc, that some of them are exactly that themselves.

I'm voting Trump because he tells it as it is and those mean globalist elites are mean to me.

Globalism is bad but lets work with Russia.

Trump really is a reflection of his followers. Can't wait to see the war on christmas this year.

no particular goals just a lowering of tension and the reduction of the chances of nuclear war...I'm not saying they should form the ''coalition of the willing part II'' im just suggesting that a good diplomatic relationship between the two isnt exactly the worst idea
If Russia want to lower hostilities they should be prepared to cease their illegal occupation of Ukrainian Crimea.

I wonder if Trump will stop the economic sanctions against his pal Putin.

Hillary Clinton predicted to win popular vote by more than 1%.

Why doesn't the US elect their president based on the popular vote? Is it to make the result more of a 'sure thing' and avoid the chaos of having to recount every vote nationally in the event of a close race?

How often do they change the number of electoral college votes a state has? For example, if there was a mass exodus from California to Wyoming (:pac:), when would this be reflected in the number of college votes afforded to each state?

He doesn't have the power to do that. And the GOP control Congress. The same GOP that hate his guts and hate Russia even more.

    So no, basically.

I cant wait for John Oliver's next show, I think he's excellent but he slaughtered Trump at every opportunity. Its the back tracking of all those who said it was "unthinkable" "unimaginable" will be glorious to watch and pure entertainment.

    I absolutely love an upset.

They're not going to back track. Why would they? It'll be funny to see them making fun of the president and Trump doing his best to get them taken off the air.

Finally, someone pointed why there is tension with Putin. The way some people are talking about him, you would think he was a lovely Teddy Bear.

Some people seem to be going all Chamberlain on us......

America has been doing that since WW2.

I think this may well end it though.

There's already rumours of France potentially re-withdrawing from NATO as they will now allow troops and nuclear arsenal to be at the possible whim of Trump and it's strengthened their push for some kind of EU common defence strategy to replace it.

thinking good diplomatic relations with russia is globalism shows complet lack of understanding what globalism is.

Not all bad. I quite liked those bits.

In fact, it'll be a golden period for comedy in the US, unless Trump goes ahead and tries to bans those who make fun of him like he (hopefully) joked about early on.

Nah, fear of Russia, (and the fear is justified) will keep the European nations in line.

Besides the Breton Woods institutons are American centric by design. Really it doesn't matter who is President.

If he surrounds himself with a good team who keep him in line then there's a chance this might be ok. He is way too impulsive to be left on a loose leash.

He has spent the last 30-40 years being a bully and getting exactly what he wants. I would be very surprised if he does not surround himself with Yes men

Denis Staunton: Trump’s win will inspire right-wing populists across world

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/us/denis-staunton-trump-s-win-will-inspire-right-wing-populists-across-world-1.2861265

fantastic, I hope it does, no better place for it than Ireland! FG bending over backwards to pay off the unions and Leo Varadkar one of our "right wing" ministers, actively seeking to increase welfare above the board!

well given that all we have here at present is left wing and centre left wing populists i.e. that describes all current options politically. Maybe Renua are centre. Then bring on the bloody "right wing" options. At least the people of Ireland will then have some choice on the political spectrum!

Breaking the Unions Thatcher tyle would be nice but be careful what you wish for. Trumps election will see a rise in racism.

He's dealing with a different audience now though. His decisions reach far beyond a private project.

I don't think that's likely in government. Things would fall apart pretty quickly and it's a profession with a very different mindset.

I didn't think Trump would make a good president because of his experience as CEO of his own companies. When it's his own company and he's own money he can tell people what to do, how and when to do it and if it goes tits up all he loses is some money, and can caulk down the loss to experience.

Now he's going to be dealing with committees, elected people he has no real power over, and most importantly he'll be spending other peoples money. If it goes tits up he's going to be held to account. It's going to be very frustrating for someone used to getting it all their own way.

Like Hitler did in the 1930's?

It looks a lot like the the 1930's. There was an economic crisis....then there was a rise of the Fascist's.....and then there was a war.

And he'll start off by allying himself with Russia. At least we know we win in the end and we get some really great movies out of it! Keep thinking of the positives! :D

There is little evidence thus far that Trump is likely to lose his bullying behaviour. This will be like a Bull in a China shop as he scapegoats folk for his own inadequacies

If there was a demand for parties to right of Fine Gael then they would exist. The fact that any party that has tried to occupy this space has crashed and burned shows there's no massive market for them in Ireland.
