AND Liz Bonn in particular dat he didn't cover the story.....love listening to Duffy bluff his way through tech slots, always comedy gold.

Ah yeah, the Web Summit that left Dublin because they blamed the Irish government for their own inadequacies and disorganisation, who on the first day had to leave people who paid stupid money for tickets outside the venue due to over crowding, and where the WiFi failed to worked, again.

Couldn't listen today but here's my comments on what I read.

Ice T "That's How I'm Livin'"....the On The Rox Remix (sampling Tubular Bells) is my favourite version.

I threw all my Ice T tapes in the bin the day I saw him on Mr & Mrs, what a sell out

And the majority of teachers will be on full pay because they are not on strike but effectively locked out by the beleaguerment Government. Schools can't open without the supervision and teachers won't do the supervision without getting paid for it:D

My local secondary had no picket yesterday, but there was a picket of 3 there this morning with their placards.

There was no official strike yesterday but teachers were refusing to do the supervision because they have not been paid for doing this since September but have stopped doing it now.

The teachers turned up for work only to be told that the schools were closed on health and safety grounds and due to insurance issues. teachers who turned up to work must be paid.

There is a different pay related strike by another union that started today so there will be pickets on some schools. these teachers will not be paid for days they are on strike.

I loved rap anyway (the old school type) but I really liked Ice-T, I still play the "Power" and "Freedom of Speech" albums on occasion, OG not so much, Home Invasion was where it all started to go downhill. The Power album was the one where I went "WTF?", it was a real game-changer and the first time I heard Gangsta Rap (way before NWA's "Straight Outta Compton"); tracks like "I'm Your Pusher", "Girls LGBNAF" and "High Rollers"* remain classics. It took rap from LL Cool J talking about "I Need Love" into a whole other stratosphere.

The Bodycount album was more funny than anything else (I have the version with "Cop Killer" on it btw, picked it up in the US before the track was removed), but "KKK Bltch" still gives me the giggles.

*all of those would give Joe a heart attack btw.

The only toyme I recall Joe discussing rap was this beauty:

    The lyrics:

Hey, I can be the answer
I'm ready to dance when the vamp up
And when I hit that dip, get your camera
You could see I been that bitch since the Pamper
And that I am that young sis, the beacon
The bitch who wants to compete and
I could freak a 'fit, that pump with the peep and
You know what your bitch become when her weave in
I just wanna sip that punch with your peeps and
Sit in that lunch if you're treatin'
Kick it with ya bitch who come from Parisian
She know where I get mine from and the season
Now she wanna lick my plum in the evening
And fit that ton-tongue d-deep in
    I guess that c*nt getting eaten (5x)

    I was in the 212
On the uptown A, nigga you know what's up or don't you?
    Word to who made ya
I'm a rude bitch nigga, what are you made up of?
I'm a eat ya food up boo
I could bust your 8, I'ma do one too, f*ck ya gon' do?
When you do make bucks, I'ma look right nigga, bet ya do want to f*ck
f*ck him like ya do want to cum
Your gay to get discovered in my two-one-deuce
Cock-a-licking in the water by the blue bayou
Caught the warm goo, in your doo-rag too, son?
    Nigga you're a kool-aid dude
Plus your bitch might lick it, wonder who let you come to one-two
With ya doo-doo crew son f*ck are you into, huh?
    Niggas better oooh-run-run
You could get shot homie, if ya do want to
Put ya guns up, tell your crew don't front
I'm a hoodlum nigga, you know you were too once
Bitch I'm 'bout to blew up too
I'm the one today, I'm the new sh*t, boo, young Rapunzel
Who are you bitch, new lunch?
    I'ma ruin you c*nt (4x)

Ayo (ayo), I heard you're riding with the same tall, tall tale
Telling them you made some (made some)
Saying you're grinding but you ain't going nowhere
    Why procrastinate girl? (-nate girl)
You got a lot, but you just waste all yours and
They'll forget your name soon (name soon)
And won't nobody be to blame but yourself, yeah

What you gon' do when I appear?
    W-when-when I premiere?
Bitch the end of your lives are near
This sh*t been mine, mine (x2)

    Bitch I'm in the 212
With the fifth cocked nigga, its the two-one-zoo
F*ck you gon' do, when your goon sprayed up?
Bet his bitch won't get him, betcha you won't do much
See even if you do want to bust, your bitch'll get you cut and touch you crew up too
Pop, you're playing with your butter like your boo won't true cock
The gun to where you do eat poom hun?
    I'm f*cking with your cutie-q
What's your dick like homie, what are you into, what's the run dude?
Where do you wake up? Tell your bitch keep hating, I'm the new one two huh
See, I remember you when you were
The young new face but you do like to slumber don't you?
Now your boo up too hon...
    I'm a ruin you c*nt
What you gon' do when I appear?
    W-when-when I premiere?
Bitch the end of your lives are near
This sh*t been mine, mine (x2)

"I can't believe she was allowed to record it Joe"

    "newspapers wouldn't even publish it"

    "that's a definite no-no"

"the most explicit song lyrics I've ever heard"
(you obviously haven't heard much of The 2 Live Crew's fine works then Joseph)

"and she's wearing a Mickey Mouse T shirt Joe

    It's no Shane O'Curry, but it's worth a listen.

One last rap-related story (for now).........my dad, knowing my love for the music at the time shouted up to my bedroom from the sitting room (where he had been watching MTV news for some reason - this was 'pre interweb btw) to tell me that "TOOTHPICK has been shot".

Who's TOOTHPICK I hear you say?

I was a little later to the party. Set the scene
A 17 year old somesoldiers sitting alone in the bedroom of his digs 1993, fresh up from the country as green as a cabbage.

Saw a poster in the UCD earlier that day, alongside the LGBT society ("oh I wonder what that stands for, maybe I'll join") for UCD Student radio, a thing they used to do for Freshers' week.

First up was the opening voice over from Ice-T's Home Invasion album...possibly was done before, oft copied since...I couldn't believe my ears.
"if you are offended by the words expletive, expletive....take the tape out now, & by the way suck my mf ****"

this was the greatest thing I had ever heard- went out next day and bought the tape

Had 15mins there so listened to a small section of yesterday's show. Joe's pronunciation of "WashingTONNE Noone-nezz" was a highlight so to speak. As was Joe asking WashingTONNE was he "welcomed in WashingTONNE?" (Joe geetin' his wurds and dat mixed up again).

Listening to the conversation between Kevin, Joe and WashingTONNE would give aspirin a headache so I gave up.

He did it something similar on Power and The Iceberg too (both before Home Invasion). Check them out of you haven't listened to them.

That position was filled months (if not years) ago. Usually does a round of various political parties* or other organisations and when one of them vacates a seat another of their group gets it. There's a couple of RTE luvvies on it as well.

The only competition is internally in the group who "owns" the seat and there is normally a fair ould catfight to get it.

    * It's usually a background worker or mate of a high ranking politician who gets it, rarely does it go to an actual TD like in the "good old days".

If you had time and could drag through the following you'll find they are all well connected to the establishment and they're on it by who they know, not their own personal ability. It's like a more professional version of the closed-shop circle-jerk that is the "Funny Friday Crew".
