You don't need to know a Guard- I call into my local guards de temps on temps for forms other than that have no dealings with them, different person each time.

I have often called in to Store St and got whatever I needed signed too

I don't know any Gardai yet I've had forms signed by going to my local Garda Station and asking them to do so. Maybe try that?

You should have power of attorney over your mother, would make life easier.

You don't have to know a Guard personally, you just have to go to one!

I'd hate to be dealing with that lady if I was in the bank.

She should be delighted that her mammy is "not known to the Guards"!

Would they not discuss with you if you have POA over his brother, b@stards?

The man could be dead and 2 utility bills could still be in his name.

If the banks weren't sure these people existed, some of the rellies would carry on using the accounts to put money through, I've no doubt.

Read my 2nd last post caller for a real life example.

Why don't the banks have 3 million different rules for each and every customer in the country, the inconsiderate gits.

Now time for Joe to put the fear into his old listeners, generate a few calls for the rest of the week, job done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,846 ✭✭✭✭somesoldiers

The thing is that if they create loopholes for every person over the age of 50 then the criminals will start using oldies banks for terrorist financing, if they aren't already....so to speak

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,850 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Joe's job is to get involved in these debates, but how come he refuses to ask so many obvious questions.

Who is going to sign all the forms on Friday? The Army?

Next up Joe will suggest the army lending each house a gun for Friday.

A quick fusillade down the street will sort the crims out.

They'll bring out the army but they'll have to go home at lunchtime for their dinner.

Some people should not be allowed out with actual physical cash during the day.

    trying to scare the elderly

Normal service has been resumed then so to speak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,850 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Idiot alert.

When are the current batch of oldies due to expire so to speak? The system needs a good flushing

No point ringing the army. Aren't they all deaf?

I know "someone" who's a doctor. She declared her mudder insane (wit her mudder's approval btw) so to speak in order to get planning permission on her mudder's land and thus circumvent the ridiculous planning laws in Meath so to speak (they're blow ins).

Been there and faced this nonsense from banks. It's utterly ridiculous, relatively small amounts of money were involved in the case I know of. The elderly had a serious stroke and disabled but 'all there'. You'd swear that the bank was putting as many obstacles as possible in their path just so as to keep their money on the bank balance sheets.

In the end, it was dealt with by someone phoning and pretending to be them and copying their signature. All dubious practice but ordinary people have to find a way around this rubbish.
