why are we relying on a TV station from another jurisdiction to do a special on this scandal?

are RTE reluctant for some reason?

Not enough people paid their license fee.

It seems the bould Pat hasn't gone away just yet...
A number of Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) committee members staged a walkout in late August prior to a committee meeting in Dublin because Pat Hickey was “live” from Rio de Janeiro on the phone of one of the members.

silence is deafening on this story now - what members stayed and who walked out - what about any executive committee meetings - has he also tried to call in on these?

where else would you see an employer pay for an apartment where an employee has been charged with a crime in another country, irrespective of being on company business - the OCI should be disbanded asap

Eur 2k a month rent, probably also getting a daily allowance

Don't I'm sure some PR shills will be along soon to explain why, address you question and ease your concerns.

Apparently one of the servants in the villa broke a nail cleaning the swimming pool and was looking for compo but it's all ok as they will be getting VIP tickets and flights to the next games in return for not going to the press.. :pac:

Every sports organisation in this country is corrupt as **** because Irish people worship sport unquestionably so the higher-ups can do whatever they want because people really want to see man chase ball and/or do running.

Bit of a sweeping statement. I know of one or two who have put a lot of effort into improving their governance over recent times (and indeed have been on the governance committee of one national body)

The OCI's Deloitte report into governance is complete:

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/athletics/2016/1026/826943-oci-governance-report-has-been-completed/

It a coincidence that JD's departure came in the same week the report is due to be discussed, isn't it?

    Coincidence !!! I think not !

While the olympics were on, people were queuing up to berate Irish people for not caring enough about sport to produce more Olympic medals. So do we care too much or not enough?

Just saying, all are corrupt, doesn't wash, as it isn't true. It's just a glib generalisation.
Simply have the right governance in place. JD, no doubt running for cover.
At least hold the job he has with the FAI @ 500K and not get too contaminated, is probably the plan.

Assuming the bould Pat is innocent ,as he says he is, it's a long time to be stuck in Brazil awaiting trial.

Olympics seem like ages ago now

Six-One News states it won't be available for several weeks.

Don't worry, that will leak. You won't have long to wait. Maybe next Sundays papers.

Another one gone - treasurer Kevin Kilty has resigned from the board

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/oci-treasurer-kevin-kilty-resigns-from-position-on-the-board-35166043.html

You wont have to wait til Sundays papers at this rate.... I'd be surprised if the Indo don't have an article with a load of Bernard O'Byrne quotes tomorrow.

We will have to wait and see I suppose. But Kilty is leaving for one of two reasons. Either he is going to be implicated in the report or he is now aware of some dirt and wants out of a dirty organisation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,173 ✭✭✭✭seamus

To be fair, if you're sparkling clean, then this would be the perfect time to hold onto your seat; let all the dirty people jump ship and you can step into the breach. Easier said than done though I suppose.

I had to laugh at Delaney's statement claiming that he was committed to his "obligations and duties in ensuring the growth and development of football in Ireland". He's been doing fnck all for Irish football up to now, I don't know why he's decided to start now.

Jesus who'd have thought being head of the FAI would be a part-time job?. Must be if you can be head of the Olympic Committee at the same time.

Heard Kieran Mulvey on RTE this evening, pleading for Pat Hickey to be allowed home to his loving family for Xmas.
'We Irish are a humanitarian people' and would hope that the Brazilian authorities would let an old man with health
difficulties fly back to Ireland soon. I do believe that a request has been made to return his passport to him. It was
gas listening to Mulvey - thought he was going to burst into tears any minute.

His solicitor now pleading with the judge that he won't live long enough to see out the trial if he's not allowed home for heart surgery. Must try that excuse the next time I'm in trouble.
28 years at the head of the IOCTL. :(

He developed a heart condition that requires surgery since he went out there?

Or he had one all along, forgot, and only remembered it now?

It sounds like they are just throwing the kitchen sink at it.
