    People always need potatoes.

    Cheers OP!

That now is a bit "working-class", in fairness. You should aim for the stars, and go travelling the World tasting potatoes.

You don't need human operator the computer. Computer operate the computer.

Dude, haven't you learnt anything from Terminator, The Matrix, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Baby's Day Out, Wargames etc?

Ah, another Irish mans dilemma. Do I eat the potato now, or wait for it to ferment so I can drink it later.

Are ye all jealous about my job lol? Sure isn't IT better. I know I'd rather be stuck in a cubicle all day staring at code instead of travelling the world approving quality beer.

Not really, as a systems engineer and with a side business I spend plenty of time travelling and often working whilst sitting in a cafe or bar or bierkeller around Europe, so long as they have wifi.

I'm currently working on a computer that tastes beer. Your days are numbered, pal.

there is only so much "see what these 10 child actors look like now" ad revenue

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

To be honest given the syntax errors and speech patterns I wouldn't be surprised if the Op was a bot and this thread was some form of crude Turing test

Oh there's a lot of Unicorns out there, just waiting to disappear back into legend. All this VC funding and overvaluing is actually a sign of The Fear - Winter's a-comin', and the Bears know it. :D

No harm to give it to them. Smug IT workers during the recession gloating in their cushy jobs. Won't be long before they're all replaced with computers anyway. And smug HR saying to upskill and learn code lol. IT the dying trade.

Cushy... we earn these 6 figure salaries between all the pool games, power naps, free meals and parties.

Op probably worked in Dell putting computers into boxes because he was too dumb to do anything else.IT is still booming but of course he only associates Twitter with IT forgetting about support, sales, media relations etc.

About 10 years ago I used to share a house with a person who worked in this groundbreaking IT cloud computing world and one day he just packed in his job and left, said it was because the area he was working in was all about these companies he was working for, the technology was creating 'universes' where not alone the technology would function by themselves, but the tech will literally create their own actual 'universes' which would lead to the likes of him and everyone like him becoming redundant in a few years time. I thought he was mad, first at the 'universe' talk, and then when he left the job. This was around the time the celtic tiger construction hype had totally collapsed and the news was telling everyone to move into the arena of the upcoming IT/Cloud/Internet market in order to survive.

Leaving aside the OP's thing, why isn't a lot of IT at massive risk automation even in comparison to a lot of other industries? If machine learning/AI advances the way people say isn't it more likely that a large amount of programming work will disappear.
I'm not saying the highest end would disappear but why wouldn't programs be created to simplify the process allow Mary the Facilities manager to automate her office and Harry the Warehouse manager to write his own bespoke systems for his deliveries etc.

Yeh. He'd be right fcuked if he still worked in cloud computing today. That never took off.

Interesting topic the gooey battered chocolate has created. First we had mass hysteria when confronted by the ground breaking OP and now slowly the realisation that IT is done for as a trade. If you want a job stick with the archaic real work and take your head from the proverbial cloud. Anyone still stuck in denial, I've one thing to say to you. It's a minute to midnight.

So, what you're saying is........computers are going to replace everything and IT is a dying trade?

    Sure, that makes sense....
