Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm also interested in this. I'm spending 5 nights in Berlin in July.

Any and all recommendations would be appreciated.

    Free walking tour?

I always find them good to get an idea what to see in more detail.

Dresden, a big favourite of mine, is two hours away on the train. Makes a nice day trip. Booking train tickets early gets discounts, or it may even be covered on the great Schones Wochenende ticket (on regional trains).

    German trains are a pleasure.

I took a day trip to Potsdam when I was there. Interesting, especially if you like history.

I believe there is also a VW garage in Dresden! :)

Sorry to hijack this thread but am thinking of visiting Berlin over the Halloween break. Does anyone know if shops, tourist places etc will be closed on the bank holiday Monday? Thanks!

Some smaller shops will be closed, but very few (if any) of the tourist places will be.

I totally agree about Potsdam. It is a beautiful place and so easily accessible from Berlin (only 20 minutes away by train).

Defo do a half day bike tour, and an organised pub crawl. 2 good history lessons :)

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp might also be worth considering if you're into history. It's north of Berlin in Oranienburg, easily doable in 20-30 mins by train, 3.30 euro each way.

If you're going to Dresden and have a budget, check out Flixbus - comfortable and cheap.

Leipzig and Jena might also be worth considering.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

In Kreuzberg, the best thing to do for bars and restaraunts is simply to go for a walk. There's hhndreds of them catered for pretty much every taste. Difficult to recommend anything without knowing what you;re into.

Treptower Park is slghtly outside Kreuxberg, but it's excellent for morning/afternoon walks.

    Re-awakening this thread (hopefully)

I'm heading here with a group of 4 adults in the autumn, the hotel & flights booked and staying for 5 nights- looking for info on best value/options for transport around the city and entry to main attractions.

What's not to be missed and what is best avoided?

Any recommendations for nice restaurants that don't cost the earth.

Is there anything like to coca cola bikes there, I'd like to cycle around the cit for an hour or so if possible.

Most restaraunts are quiet inexpensive, depends on taste and what kind of food yoou're taking about.

Dunno what "Coca-Cola" bikes are , but you can rent bikes by the hour/day all overt he city. Your hotel/hostel will be able to advise where the nearest to you would be.

    Shameless bump.

Heading to Berlin for 2 nights /3 days at the end of the month with my girlfriend. Anyone else been recently and what's recommended. Staying in the Berlin Mark Hotel off Kurfurstendamm.

Spend an afternoon wandering around Kreuzberg: https://goo.gl/maps/WWnFfkXuYBBQfHHSA

Go here for some pick n' mix (the salty sweetcorn is addictive) and a beer: https://goo.gl/maps/5j3C1K6qsB1Q8MK9A

Go to this market... we went twice: https://goo.gl/maps/E9ToRey8hFJvtx4h6 (It's a food market)

Visit this church: https://goo.gl/maps/g8wBorpURLgoyCLA9 - On your way, pop into one of the many shops / (their version of off licences) and pick up a beer to keep you going. Then walk along the route of the Berlin Wall, crossing over the river back to the East side.

Over by Zoogarten, visit this Church: https://goo.gl/maps/GL5w96ZwckA3uoY69

Then go here (top floor) for an over-priced drink as you look down over the Zoo: https://goo.gl/maps/5V38TxpHaHxu8gAy5

Go visit a bunker. You can't book tickets, so I advise getting there early in the morning and buy your ticket. You'll have an hour to kill. Go into the shopping mall beside the station and get some breakfast: https://goo.gl/maps/L5p632gpNHrHh8nc8

I'm not much into my Museums, but this is different. A pictorial / walk-along read of the rise of the Third Reich. Built on the site of former SS HQ: https://goo.gl/maps/cBo1HtF8R7V2DwMEA

That's just a pinch of the things we did in Berlin (we were there for 4 nights)

Christmas markets will have started up by then - personal favourites are the ones at Spittalmarkt and Kulturbrauerie.
