Escalators, my wife still tries not to use them and will always use the stairs if available because she got her cloths stuck in an escalator as a kid and thought she was going to be dragged into the machinery.

Freddy Krueger, watched NOES when I was 6 :D Every night when the lights went out I would be petrified he was going to come out of the wardrobe. Even the adverts or theme tune for Freddys Nightmares would scare the absolute **** out of me.

6?!! I saw it at 26 and was scared!!

Never knew who he was but he was everywhere....

You know you're getting old when a mother points at you when speaking to her child about 'The man'. :(

Orange trains used to scare me to death when I was little. It was the noise, combined with the horrible dark orange and black combination which just terrified the sh*t out of me.

I also remember being afraid of the bad guy in Dennis the Menace, not the cartoon but the real film.

Quick Sand. Saw some film on TV as a kid where someone got caught in quick sand and had nightmares about it for years.

Saw someone saying before that when they grew up they were relieved quicksand wasn't as big a problem as they thought it was going to be.

Haha, my young lad was the same, he'd shít himself if we were in the park and an Orange train was going by, Green ones never bothered him though,

Somewhat similar but we had to pass a railway depot going to mass (in the UK years ago) and I was scared by the pattern on the shunting engines that they used (a sort of zebra stripe if you know it).

Used to be scared cutting things in case I split an atom and caused a massive nuclear explosion. Didn't really understand nuclear physics when I was 5 or so.

They did a piece about it on Mythbusters - MYTH BUSTED, "quicksand" is denser than water so you can't sink into it never to be seen again.

Apparently he will cut off your ears if you say something bad to your granny! 😲 I was hiding under the kitchen table every time the doorbell rang for a while afterwards and slept with the duvet pulled over my ears for years.

I was also scared that there was something/someone I couldn't see hiding under my bed and wardrobe.

Sneaky Snake on Wanderly Wagon- just so sinister and sadistic.
Also wasn't too fond of Jimmy Sommerville the first time I saw him on Top Of The Pops.

Didn't take a lot to scare me.

    Seaweed

An episode of Scooby Doo is responsible for that bizarre one. I remember watching an episode were a glowing yellow zombie diver would come out of the sea and he would use the seaweed to conceal himself.

Never trusted or liked the look of seaweed since

My friends mam use to mind me the odd time after school and she made the worst mashed potatoes. There were lumps in them. She wouldnt have given out because she was lovely but i was too scared to say it to her.

I remember telling my mam "I don't want to go there because she makes horrible potatoes" :(:)

I was pulled out of the crowd at the circus when I was younger along with 2 others. Clown gave us each a sweet and then asked us to say a nursery rhyme. 1st kid says it and everything goes fine, second kid says it and everything goes fine. Comes to me and as I start to speak the mic is altered to make my voice squeaky and high pitched much to the crowds amusement.

30 years later (give or take) I am still terrified of being picked out of the crowd at anything.
