Bizarre thing you were afraid of as a child.

This must have come up before. I remembered this yesterday.

I was afraid of Tarantulas specifically giant ones after watching a film where a tarantula was genetically changed after a leak from a nuclear plant and it make the spider huge. I was also afraid of tsunamis again after watching a film. It never occurred to me that the chance of getting bit by a tarantula or drowned by tsunami in Ireland we practically zero.

Its funny how you mind works as a child.

Omg my granny had a big Blue barrel at the front corner of her house and I was terrified of it. There was always massive spiders floating in the rainwater in it. Ugh.. I haven't thought of it years!

Butchers. The noise of the saws they used to cut through bones and the sawdust on the floor (which all butchers used to have years ago) used to freak me out and I'd always wait outside when my mother went in.

My sister told me a story when I was a kid about a spider crawling into a woman's ear and laying eggs. For years I slept with one ear on my pillow and my hand covering the other one.

    Lifts.
I was convinced they would crash to the ground.

What's that film that ends with a lift crashing.? Something about a hotel.

The big monsters (gorgs I think) in the garden in fraggle rock who would run over and grab the fraggles. Scariest thing ever.

Flowery curtains where you could make out faces.

Automated Car washers with the big rolling brushes that would engulf the car. When they started to spin they would fire up like rotating barrels of death. Or that's how they looked to me as a kid anyway.

Those ads on to tv in the 1980s showing a house going up on fire due to a cigarette not being put out in the sitting room. It was an ad about smoke alarms.

White bouncing ball in the prisoner.

Our butcher used to give lollipops to the kids so we all loved him but in hindsight.. lollipops in a butchers? handed to you by a man in an apron covered in blood!? Raw meat everywhere and saw dust in the air!? Must have a word with my mam about allowing that!

ET, never saw the film and there was an advert for Weetabix at the time for some tie-in stuff so I ran out the room and peeked through the crack of the door until it finished.

    The washing machine.
The big giant car wash with the fluffy washers on either side that filling stations have. I would lose my life with the panic if Mam or Dad decided to get the car washed in one of them with me inside.

i developed a fear of car washes as a child after the machine jammed on the runners and we were stuck for about 10 minutes with the fluffy washers on the windscreen and side windows going full whack

Didnt go into one until my mid 20's after that still not 100% comfortable in them:D
