You're not a hypocrite. Its just whatever you're brought up with.

Deer are horrible angry creatures that will jump through your window and literally kill you while you're driving. What did cows ever do to you?

Whenever I hear mention of venison, it reminds me of this classic.

For the same reason that people say "Don't eat tuna as it kills dolphins", no one cares unless the animal is cute and tuna/cows aren't cute.

Ah, but surely lambs are cuter than most animals, yet people eat lamb without a problem.

As a vegetarian, I don't really understand why meat eaters go mental at the thought of eating horse, dog or even cat. Then again, those animals probably make up a fairly large percentage of the meat in your sausages, burgers, puddings etc, and ye don't even know it :D

Different cultures. Still very hypocritical in my opinion.

All fair points. Aside from the lie of it all, I really couldn't get with the level of disgust people had for the whole horsemeat in my lasagna scandal. It saved a lot of meat going to waste and you didnt notice any difference in yer ready meal muck did you. It was probably the healthiest thing about it.

It is odd what some people get squeamish about. Everyones happy chewing away on sausage when we know but dont dwell on the way it contains all parts. But then its OMG black pudding contains BLOOD? WHAT DA FUQ, Gross! Steak contains blood. Gravy contains blood.

I have plenty of hypocrite in me. I'd hate to eat cat. I've had plenty of rabbit and some dog-felt weird about it having both as pets (No...I didnt actually eat them now) but ya know-however cat would be past my point of ok. (Maybe I preferred my cat pet?)

"I'm a total animal lover! I spent hundreds of euros on a cute dog from a breed that's had horrible health conditions bred into it when there are dogs languishing in kennels! Ok fine I eat dead animals for pleasure every day but I put videos of that dog on Facebook every day too so don't tell me I don't love animals!"

I'd be pretty p1ssed off too if I was constantly being shot at by a bunch of bellends.

You never had an association with animals and it's corresponding meat from an early age. I'm the same, I can't eat duck, deer, horse (my friends used to bbq it when we were in France), or Kangaroo, which is widely eaten in Australia. I rarely (lol) eat beef now either.
A piece of ham to me has nothing to do with the animal, because I would have enjoyed the taste when I was a toddler without having a clue where it came from. But pigs are intelligent friendly animals. It's sad really.
I seem to be eating less and less meat as I get older and hopefully the world goes in that direction for the good of ourselves and the planet. But I'm still a hypocrite, for now anyway.

You're missing out because venison is so much nicer than beef. I'd take a nice venison steak over a regular stake any day of the week.

Oh deer, I'm sure that'll go down well

I ordered a load of philosophy books after reading your post OP.
I'll need their guidance before even to begin contemplating the enormity of the question you have posed.

I'm not sure what's hypocritical about it, you just have a preference for certain meats. I don't like anything game-y, lamb or any seafood. I was brought up with chicken, turkey, beef and pork. Ive tried other meats and it's not my thing at all.

It's like saying vegetarians that don't like every vegetable going is a hypothetical. Sense it does not make.

That's a completely different scenario where someone just doesn't like the taste of certain foods. In this situation she's not eating the venison because she doesn't like the idea of eating a deer.

Personally, I'd eat any meat not belonging to a threatened species. I'd just as readily eat panda meat as cow meat if it tasted good.

Nah, I wouldn't eat deer for either the taste or for what it is. I suppose *some* people are set on the meats they grew up with, everything else is a pet or something to be admired.

It's a mindset more so than a hypocrisy. I couldn't look at a deer and think it looks delicious, I'd rather watch it in nature. Cows are nice I suppose, but I'd happily walk one to the abattoir for my dinner.

No it doesn't. It, like all muscle tissue, contains myoglobin, which is red, admittedly, but it ain't blood. Same goes for gravy made from the juices.

    "What are you"

    "I'm an Otter"

    "and what do you do?"

"I sim around on my back and make cute noises"

    "You're free to go"

    "and what are you?"

    "I'm a cow"

    "Get in the f&*king truck!!"

    Love that Denis Leary sketch

No it doesn't. You desperately need to find a new butcher.
