Is stewy running a power commander? Must have missed that

Yes you can eliminate the O2 s with a power commander and performance would suffer if you did so, at that point the computer is making a best guess on how much fuel should be added or subtracted.

The O2 sensor makes the calculations precise. Personally I would never eliminate the O2 s on any vehicle

ah he mentioned on another forum about the power commander.
Tbh there is a reason an o2 eliminator is supplied withthe power commander.

The custom map is balancing a fuel % at a certain throttle % for a certain performance. Without eliminating the o2 sensor a custom map will be all over the place as no matter what % in fuel changes the person tuning the bike makes the o2 sensor will overide the change.

You simply dont get a custom map done and leave the o2 sensor enabled.

Lash in a Bazzaz stewy and get rid of everything else!!!:D

Is stewy running a custom map?

I get custom maps for race only bikes on particular race track where you re always at the same altitude with similar weather, but on a street driven bike? Wouldn t want to live with that everyday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭goodlad

yes it would be a custom map if he went that route. Ive ran custom maps on my last 3 bikes and tbh the outcome was always amazing.

With my current bike i needed to get an ecu flash to remove a fuel cut that yamaha made a balls. Was only an extra 50 quid to get a custom map on a dymo while the ecu was being flashed.

The bike is a fúcking animal now if i feel like driving like a hooligan. Where as before it was fairly tame.

IMHO The modern fuel injection systems are so good today they are difficult for the aftermarket companies to improve upon, however, their Achilles heel is the EPA and big government.

The manufactures lean out the mixture so much the bike wanted to stall from a standing start (the BMW was the worst)

These guys build a small box that plugs in between the ECM and the O2 sensor allowing you to add a bit of fuel without having to reprogram the factory ECM. Made a world of difference on the BMW, no more stalling and the engine ran cooler with that added fuel.
    http://sales.nightrider.com/BMW_upgrades.html

Probably not a good idea with the factory cat installed as the extra fuel might burn it up.

I run these on the BMW and Harley, love em

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭goodlad

With my own bike i smashed every trace of the cat out of the headers to avoid that issue.
Tbh my own bike didnt have the 2006 fz1 fuel cut issue i wouldnt of bothered with the ecu flash and custom map.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭TeaBagMania

When did it cut fuel, certain RPM or MPH? Even in 2006 fuel injection systems were pretty good.

Maybe stewy can chime in but if memory serves the factory BMW ECM s are encrypted and as of yet haven t been cracked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭goodlad

The stock ECU is programmed to cut fuel on deceleration. As soon as the throttle is closed the fuel cut kicks in.

So literally everytime you change gear the fuel cuts for a second. When gearing up itsbrief mosat of the time but other times you would swear you put the bike into neutral and wonder wtf but then the power kicks in. But when gearing down you will literally have no power for a solid second and then all of a sudden the power kicks back in.

Options are to install a fuel cut eliminator from Ivan in America or just do an ecu flash where the fuel cut can just be delete from the ecu entirely. Although i went all out and mod my airbox, graves velocity stacks etc.... long list of mods. Best to do them before getting the flash and map

Well I've said since downsizing to a DL650 Vstrom that it was gutless & boring.

So this week it wouldn't idle & was running like a pig, so I checked the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and it was fooked.

Installed a new TPS this evening (bit of a bitch to set it correctly), and the bike feels like a whole new bike, and wheelies off the gas :)

Bit of a pain in the hole striping all the plastics and setting the whore, but well worth it.

Oh and cost, from Priory I was quoted €129 plus VAT.. Online from the UK ~ €80 delivered in 48 hours, happy fooking days :)

Mines always gone like the clappers tbh takes off from the lights with gusto and no problem 2 up on the motorway.

Good to hear you got it right.

When my son has the SV650s (curvy/carbed) I was always telling him how much I preferred his engine to mine (I know they're in different states of tune). The were worlds apart so I guess my TPS was out for awhile and finally gave up the ghost this week because since the new TPS went in its been like an engine transplant!.

Funny thing is my dl is far more fluid and much quicker off the line than my budies sv. His is 07 mines 2010

Any ideas what my issue is?

went like this, started up but was idling rough and it would do a blip and then die.

then it would just turn over and over until I gave it some throttle, and that's in the video

eventually took it for a ride, felt like it was running on one cylinder, no power at all, dying when not applying throttle at a standstill, even after the 10 minute journey.

Got home and pulled into the drive and it died again. Started it, and it sounded healthy again, holding 1300 revs idle perfectly, sounding right. Took it for a spin again and it was back to normal

Had been sitting for almost a week because I was sick. Had this happen before about a month ago when I did the oil change and left it sit for 3 days.

I'm thinking what I should do is pull the spark plugs and see what the story is, and then maybe do a valve clearance check? I'll have to get the right kind of socket for the plugs and the gauges for the valve clearance.

No errors being shown on dash.
here's the video, apologies for the state of it. I don't ever rev it like that at a standstill but was doing it for the video

didn't get it in the video but after this happened both times it was blowing black smoke when revving, not 100% sure if it was on the throttle going on or coming off the throttle where that would be valve stems being done? Anyway it stops after a few big plumes of smoke. Could there be a very slow oil leak and there ends up being a pool of oil after a week of sitting and that ends up fouling one of the plugs.. then it eventually burns off and goes back to normal?

sorry for the big long post but just want to put as much info as possible, don't really have a clue myself.

Should have done a video of it healthy afterwards for a comparison but it sounds the opposite of that video above

Drain the carbs into a container that you can check for water or debris.
Sounds like fuel problems to me.
Have you got an inline fuel filter fitted?
If its injected then your intank filter may be bad or the fuel pump

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

it's injected, I'm not sure what way it is set up with filters but I'll have a look into that, it makes sense that it could be a blocked filter because I was towards the end of the tank, light had just come on. thanks

Also check there is no moisture getting in at the front plug, they are in a brutal location on the SV and prone to getting wet.

While doing that I would inspect the HT Leads and plugs and make sure all are in good condition.

Sounds like you should have ordered a back tyre, chain and sprocket while you were at it :pac:

No thank you!.. First thing my son said was 'Thats the first time I've seen you wheelie that bike' ~ I intend it to be the last time too lol.

I only tried wheelies off the gas, and on an empty tank too & surprised myself.

We're having fun with his DRZ instead :P

In the last few weeks I went on a bit of speeding spree on the old Fazer fzs600. Fitted:

    HID's
    Renthals
    LED indicators
    new grab rail
    new gear/brake levers

Next up is a well deserved service

    Today I ....................

......stuck a 2014 back end on to my 2010 bike.

New seat unit, tail piece and undertray bought .... (Ebay Germany).

14 tail unit is 2 inches narrower than the 10 tail unit,so it gives the bike a sleeker look....imo.
Also fitted smoked Hornig led tail light with built in indicators.

Today I fitted a GIVI rack to my VFR1200. Today I also disconnected the cable from the servo motor that keeps the flapper closed on the exhaust, when the engine is spinning at under 5,000rpm. Suddenly the exhaust sounds a lot deeper and richer and the throttling seems smoother at lower revs. Almost makes me regret my purchase of a Delkevic slip-on, that I'll be fitting at the weekend... But the stock exhaust is a thing of great ugliness, and as soon as it is confined to the shed, I'll be a happier biker.

Anyone have a Delkevic slipon? Seems cheaper than all of the alternatives, but eyeballing the exhaust, it looks pretty well made to my undiscerning eye.
