I keep seeing pics from Autostadt spins, but anytime I log on to the site the place seems dead. Is there some secret hidden forum in it I'm missing :P

Are you registered on the site? I checked and didn't see Osi registered.

Joe, are there differences in the Golf's headlights? I see a red and a blue Golf in the photo and the blue one has 2 LED rings lit and the red one has one lit ( i presume a GTD)?

Yeah. The red one is a GTI. The blue one is my R.

The GTI/D have the same headlights barring the red stripe through them in the GTI. It's silver in the GTD. They have a single "U" LED DRL and the indicator is a normal bulb.
The R has twin "U" DRL's and the indicator is a LED strip.

Pop over to Autostadt... say hello, post up a few pics of your car... attend a meet up or two. The event yesterday had a mixture of old and new heads, all got along fine. It is a fair observation though that there tends to be more interest and fawning over the older stuff, but that's to be expected in a way. Another picture of a new MK7 Golf is probably not going to get the pulses racing, but if you put a bit of a story up about it or tell a bit about yourself you'll get far more "interest"... I'm making it sounds like Tinder now, but you get the idea :pac:

Indeed mention your past cars too, we are petrol heads at the end of the day and will appreciate a chequered and interesting car history.

Exactly, we're not a bad buch of people.
We have plans for more events next year, it's late in the year at this stage to organise another run but we will have a rolling road day coming up soon to end off the year.

The old stuff does get some attention but I'm sure it's the same across all marques. Having said that there are owners of some really nice modern machinery registered.

Here's my mk2 after 560 Kms of driving over two days, it was great craic.

Attending meets is the hard part for me, unless they're Dublin/Leinster based. I just simply don't have the time these days with work and other commitments. Don't get me wrong either, I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I was only going off the fact that the forum itself looked quite dead and there was a lot of topics/sections that seemed to have their latest post 6 months ago.

I haven't tried all that hard to integrate myself anywhere specific as of yet anyway, mainly because my car is a standard GTI. They're not exactly rare these days and they're not exactly very interesting either (a problem I'm finding I have myself with meshing fully with it). I might wait until I manage to make some changes or do something a bit interesting with it and then we'll see. :)

Some of the sub-forums on there would give you the impression that it's a bit dead alright. There's too many sub-forums on it in my own view. So I always navigate to the "latest topics" page and there's always several active threads on there every day - http://www.autostadt.ie/phpbb3/search.php?search_id=active_topics

OSI here got a nice little thread going on it yesterday ;)

Anyone know how to get pp Connect to recognise Android Auto over Mirror Link? Every time I connect it automatically goes to Car Mode first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,174 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Worth it? Do you find Android Auto good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,086 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

It's a lot better than car play and the mapping from Google maps is much better. Some people had bugs, I think it depends a lot on the phone and apps installed. Certain phones and app updates caused havoc. One plus 3 was a disaster and Facebook too. No issue with a note 4/S7/HTC10/M7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,174 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Yeah I've been usin Car Play and it's fine, maps are terrible though.
Trying to get Android Auto working on a S7 Edge, will try and remove Mirror Link completely and see if that works.

It should work once you install the android auto app on the phone, review the permissions in the app and go through the various set up screens on the head unit and it should be automatic after that? Was flawless on the normal S7 I had.

Is it nice to have? Yes.
Is it worth the €300+ VW charged for it? No.

Am I bitter they started giving it to people free just a few weeks later? Yes :P

Oh don't get me started on that, think they started to give it out for free 3/4 weeks after I picked up my car after paying for it.

Which package disabler app did you use?

You would think that it would, but won't, even when I set the connection on the media unit to automatically connect via Android Auto over Mirror Link it still goes with the latter.

I have to say the Autostadt.ie lads are some of the soundest group i've came across. I've been active on the forum a few years as my last 3 cars were VAG (Golf V TDi, Golf V GTi and A4 TFSi), since then I got myself into a Fiesta ST and remained an active member. I went on their WAR run in August and was made feel very welcome even if I wasn't in a VAG. Gutted I missed the trip last week but I'll be definitely signing up to the next one.

    I don't think they'll call it a MK8.

Ah there's no car discrimination on Autostadt. Sure the lead car on Sunday wasn't a VAG either - a BMW M5. You should have just come along the last morning if you were around Hooch, there was 2-3 no-shows.

Ah Ted's black beauty, I had fun trying to keep into himself and Neilo in Mayo on the WAR run!

I was planning on going and maybe jumping in a passenger as I knew the list was fairly full but a cousin of mine was home from the UK and ended up in the local for a "few" which turned into a bit more than that. Needless to say I wasn't able for driving at 8am.

But I will definitely go again on another autostadt event.

Yeah I had some fun myself keeping on the coat tails of Ted!

It was a great spin, different to the wild Atlantic run, less scenery but great driving roads. I took the mk2 golf instead this time, it was a blast!

I would be interested on doing a spin with the autostadt crew. Am I right in saying that you need to be a member to even view the discussions? My membership has been pending for a few weeks!

I think some content needs you to register. Not sure tbh as obviously I'm always logged in...

Neilw here is a mod on the forum.... send him a PM here (or he'll be along here shortly anyway) and he'll sort your membership out!

Sure there was even a Toyota eleven on the last run! Wouldn't have happened in the old days *waves fist* lol

That worked thanks. Liking it a lot more than CarPlay on my work phone, can see that not being used anymore.

Whats your registered username? We have been bombarded with spam registrations so we have to approve everyone manually. Yours could have been missed.

I can approve your account straight away.

As for the spins, the last two have been great. We don't have anymore planned for this year but we will be doing more in the new year.

The username I registered is the same as my username here i.e. G00L. I made the request on October 11th. I may have exaggerrated slightly with my 'few weeks'.
