Right, I can see this is the wrong place to look for sense knocking :D Although I'd say Bungygirl can be relied upon if no one else can!! I may want to, but that doesn't make it a good idea!! The future is AR.....:p

Oh yes, so long as it's other people that need to be sensible and not me that is fine :D

Great news on the health front AM, delighted to hear.

Thanks for all the good wishes :)

Best Holiday ever….fantastic weather, lovely resort and perfect company. Feeling very refreshed.

    Saturday 1st October 4 miles @ 10:43 in 27 degrees :)
Arrived in Salou on Thursday night late so no running Thursday, took an additional rest day on Friday (apart from about 10 laps of the pool) but decided to head out for a jog on Saturday morning, the seafront is lovely with a gorgeous wide palm tree lined promenade. Ran some of this on the beach on the return leg but the sand was quite soft and the effort levels went up considerably so knocked that on the head. Left the HRM at home and just enjoyed this.

Walked about 4 miles that afternoon, popped into Decathlon :D picked up a pair of trail runners, could have been worse, saw about 5 million things I wanted to buy...

Found a pub showing the Dubs match with about 15 mins to go  still, better than missing it completely. #nailbiting

    Sunday 2nd October 3 miles @ 10:47
Lovely. Had a brainwave to throw on my bikini under my running gear, head for my run and follow it up with a swim in the sea to cool down afterwards - bliss :). The water was gorgeous, the sun was shining down and at that early hour I had the beach pretty much to myself. The water is amazingly clean and all lovely shades of green and blue. Such a peaceful swim in such breathtaking surroundings. Took it all into the memory stores to see me through the winter..
    20 Min Swim
.5 miles @ 10:34, jogged back to the apt and feasted on a delicious brekkie of muesli and fry which I’d definitely eared today :p all the tastier when someone else cooks it!!

Followed by about 6 miles walk to the next village (there and back) stopping for a coffee before coming back. Bliss.

    Monday 3rd October
Rest - eh sort of, walked the length and breadth of Barcelona, great city, need to go back and see a bit more though, hard to do it all in one day! May have done a bit of retail therapy too…. ;)

    Tuesday 4th October 3 miles @ 9.54
A bit fast but hey… was very hot this morning, 31 degrees on the pharmacy sign. Had planned to do 4 but decided on 3 at steady instead. Did the same as Sunday and followed up with a swim in the sea afterwards, glorious, glorious, glorious.

    Wednesday 5th October
Rest - well ish…. Walked about 4 miles today, headed in the opposite direction along some stunning coastal trails looking down at the Mediterranean and the beautiful beaches below along the way. Took a few photos….(I haven’t counted yet but it was probably more than a few!). Was planning to run tomorrow morning before heading for the flight in the afternoon so this was ‘enough’ for today.
Followed up with about 15 mins sea swim, a bit busier in the water in the late afternoon but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.

    Thursday 6th October: Actual rest..
Woke up feeling less than well after some overindulgence (both food and wine) on the last night (worth it though!!) it was also quite overcast, took it as a sign to have a bit of a lie on / last chill out before heading to the airport that afternoon.

Really enjoyed my week in the sun, actually haven’t had a sun holiday in years, was very relaxing (despite the above :D) and soaked up plenty of Vit D for the winter months. Would go back in a heartbeat.

    Sunday 9th October 4 miles @ 10:14

Had wanted to get out for a longish trail run yesterday in the PP and was supposed to be doing the Meath Masters XC race today but have visitors coming on Wednesday and was having work done on the house so between scheduling and the to-do-list getting bigger instead of smaller I ended up with nothing yesterday and had to skip the race today :( At least the driveway looks amazing and the house is not half bad either…. Found a short window to get out for a local loop and decided to push the pace a little as I had planned on running flat out at the XC (god knows what that would have equated to!!). Enjoyed this, temperature was perfect and felt strong throughout despite having nearly knocked myself out earlier with a whack to the head on an outside windowsill :D (not to mention being assaulted by a stair gate - how the hell do people live with these yokes on a long term basis??!!!)

Paces were 9:47, 10:14, 10:37 (not sure what happened there) 10:14.

Busy week ahead and the weekend will pretty much be a write off with a family wedding so will just fit stuff in when I can. More than a bit jealous of everyone running in the ¾’s marathon today..

Thanks, same to you! Had thought I might try for 55 mins but I don't think that will happen so going to do a progression run starting at steady pace and see if I can push on from there.

I don't want to ask this on the main thread for fear of being laughed out of town (might happen anyway :D) but would it be okay to just reduce all the mileage in a a marathon plan by half to make a half marathon plan....or is that just bonkers?!

Depends on the marathon plan I suppose AM !

Why not pop up a few weeks of what you are thinking and you'll get a better response?

It depends on what you want out of the plan ( to get around the half or to PB) and where you are realistically fitness wise. My initial reaction was to think "no" ....it would need to be tweaked ...but the overall structure of the week might well work ( again, depending on the plan)

Hiya AM :) interesting question! Are you imagining advancing each non easy pace by a notch too so steady becomes MP and MP becomes HMP becomes tempo? What about faster paces? Seems like it would be easier to pick a specific half marathon plan??

Best of luck AM and Enjoy !!! :)

I think a standard/average HM plan tends to have more than half the total weekly mileage of a standard/average Marathon plan. In the same way that a 10K plan wouldn't have double the mileage of a 5K plan. So I don't think a pro-rata approach would necessarily work and would probably leave you under-prepared. There are some good HM plans out there that might suit ?

Best of luck for Sunday !!!

I would go for a specific HM plan... main difference I've seen is the length of the Lsr and some of the pace sessions. Myles has plans for different distances on 2015 grad thread. Clearlier plan from 2014 grad thread worked really well for me for HM. Also Hal higdon has various levels of HM plans too.

    And have fun in Longwood!!
