The fellows who wear bootcut jeans to this day are the ones who originally wore straight cut, but after a few years of boot cut coming in, they switched. Initially it seemed weird.

Now the opposite has happened, boot cut has gone out of fashioned yonks ago. Give it a few years and the boot cutters will be back wearing straight leg (by then the rest of us might be back wearing Xworks, personally I'm hoping for the returns of daisy dukes - come with us fellows!).

You are just behind the times. It's fear more than anything. God forbid you be the first person in your group to stay in fashion and look like an individual. The slagging. Straight leg? Johnny's a queer apparently.

Be the first one in your group to stay in fashion by following everyone outside the group?

If your group is wearing boot cut jeans, aren't you in fashion with your group by wearing boot cut jeans?

Outside of work, I'll wear a tracksuit bottom and sporty tshirt. That's what I like and I couldn't give a flying fanny what anyone else is wearing. In fact, I would find it weird that somebody else would care what I was wearing tbh.

    lol same

Shirts, tie etc when in the office but outside of work I'm in tracky bottoms & t-shirt or similar.

Even if I tried really fecking hard I still couldn't give one flying phuck what others think so long as I'm comfy.

If fashion is stupid hair, skinny tight bottoms etc you can keep it

Its not other people's job to look pretty for you. And whats considered 'stylish' to one may not be for another as its subjective taste. For example I think skinny jeans look great on men, women, everyone, but several posters have pointed out that they look ridiculous on men. So there you go

I would agree that irish men dress poorly on average though

Here are my prejudices on what I wear -

skinny jean - won't fit as my legs are too big and would be terribly uncomfortable if they did.

tracksuits/sweatpants - I wear them outdoors for sports and hiking. Indoors if I'm having a lazy day in. Otherwise I wouldn't be caught dead around town with them. The reason why? I was living in Limerick back in the bad days and tracksuits tucked into sports socks just screams scum to me.

checked shirts - just seems like an uniform on some nights out, so many are wearing them.

My overall style could be much, much better though.

Just my humble now, but I would say skinny jeans look OK on skinny legs. The clue is in the name kinda thing. The reverse is true of "belly tops".

I have been musing - it's a slow news day in WibbsWorld(™) - why the skinny look comes in and out of fashion, mostly in, on the regular. Maybe it's a signifier of youth? Ignoring the panic about the obese are everywhere for a moment, if you pick a gaggle of late teens at random in general they tend more towards the lanky than not. Both men and women. If you then pick a shuffle of middleagers they'll tend towards more filled out than not. Both men and women. Not necessarily fat either BTW, just more filled out. That broadening tends to start to happen in the post college 20's and gains pace in the 30's. It would be more the outlier man or woman that would keep that teen bod without serious enough effort/lucky genes(no pun). Hell even going full on gym mode is more likely to broaden a chap out than not. Spray on jeans and other attire might simply be telegraphing "healthy" skinny youth? In later life being so skinny might actually telegraph unhealthy.

I state for the record I have never owned nor worn a suit of the track. While I was at the tail end of the first flush of flares(I didn't wear them, preferring drainies) I missed out the phase where tracksuits were seen as a fashion plus.

The cringiest thing Irish men do is that once they reach a certain age they just abandon all what would be perceived as 'younger' fashion, its so try hard its hilarious. The M&S range is actually pretty good, but unless your over 35, probably shouldn't be the majority of your clothing.

I'm talking specifically about those 32 year old D4 types, who look about 15 years older going to Leinster games when they are in the AVIVA, dad jeans and jack wolfskin wind breakers.

no, it's the older men who try & keep up with fashion, walking around dressed like a shop mannequin.

To be fair there's not many wearing boot cut jeans these days........ I was a fan of them years ago, wouldn't wear them in a fit now.

Straight cut jeans accomodate most shoes well, you won't squeeze your caterpillars under them of course but....

Skinny jeans and t shirts here.
Cant stick "daddy" jeans although there was a time when I though they were cool as fook but them wnet to a family thing and my dad was wearing the same jeans. That put a stop to them quite swiftly.

But either way I was cool as anything when I was younger. I used to wear a Kilt,Docs and a white leather jacket with like strings/tassles hanging out of it.

Yep I thought I was Axl Rose.
Thanks feck there was no social media back then and /or camera phones.Id never be able to show my face again!!!

I wear slim fit jeans and that's enough IMO. I have the physique for skinny fit but it's too feminine for jeans.

I wear skinny fit shirt size as size s is a bit too loose

A t-shirt because I like my arms being free and jeans/combats.
I have nicer clothes but I keep them for when I personally feel like dressing up.
It's rare enough but it's nice to have the option.

Don't see what all the fuss is about, I personally dislike tracksuits so I don't wear them, problem solved.

What passes for style and taste in this country, is appalling...

Just look at the people we hand out style icon awards to:

(it's almost like our awards are an intentional pi$$ take... if this is deemed the best in the country, what hope has anyone else got? :p)

[old guy here] I would personally think pics 2, 3, 4 and 5 are OK… ish. The man bag in pic 2 is a no(unless it's actually a Lee Enfield slung over his shoulder), wear socks godammit >-< in pic 3 and tuck in the necklace in pic 4. Otherwise I reckon OK. The hipster beard I could do without, but that's a long time trend among young dudes so… The Hublot wristwatch? No. Just No. It's the timepiece equivalent of a minor Russian oligarch on the beach at Cannes wearing leopard print budgie smugglers under a man belly. *shudder* And Pic 1 is beyond silly. At no time in the long history of mankind will that ever be stylish. He looks like a condom overstuffed with cherries, that smeared in glue fell into the new arrivals funeral Tuesday basket at St Vincent DePaul's. Maybe the scarf. At Christmas. For a festive bet. And tie your laces boy! [/old guy here]

Does anyone in the world other than Paul Galvin and the fashion editor of the Sindo actually think Paul Galvin is stylish though?

    He's like an SNL skit.

Is Conor McGregor considered a style icon?

I always assumed he just picked the most eccentric clothing possibly to see what reaction he'd get. Cause he's rich and can do whatever the hell he wants :pac:

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I'm of a smaller build....5'7 30" waist and small t-shirts etc.....it's very hard to find shirts that fit, those that fit around shoulders are usually too long and wide and I have to get them tailored.

Plus I don't get this obsession clothes shops have with skinny/extra skinny trousers....I haven't massive calves but usually struggle to or can't get them over my calves when the waist is perfect fit.

Not a lot of choice for the vertically challenged guy.....even in suits, most jackets are regular with limited choices in short.

2.Sorry but the rest of them make all those "men" look less "manly"

Having been guilty of this, and moved to London a few years ago after spending my life in Dublin. It's my opinion that there is no fashion sense whatsoever amongst Irish men. I had to up my game pretty quickly in order to not look like a yokel here.

Flannels and jeans. Grey trackies and t-shirts or bearded pervy looking hipster seem to be the 3 variations of mens fashion in Ireland. Which is a shame because I think (from a straight male perspective) that Irish men in general are much better looking than our English counterparts, who tend to lack in the hair and chin department.

We've got the accent and the looks lads, but for fook sake lose the boot cuts and the flannels! And tracksuits, unless you're lounging at home or involved in exercise you look like a total skanger.
In fairness the English look is quite generic and kind of like a uniform over there so I wouldn't classify it as stylish. Also as all the shops seen to be obsessed with skinny jeans and slim fit shirts they can take a hike as they don't fit large thigh it big shoulders.
Don't get me started on the hipster clones.

Tatoos can be cool when done well. Don't think his are though - chest one is what I am talking about.
    Do like McGregor though.

Thing is, you don't have to dress like a fairy in order to look good. All you need really is a good shirt (not a check shirt) jeans and probably most important, good shoes/boots.

Main thing is that your clothes fit well. Then you just need to learn some basic colour coordination.

OP you say irish men have no sence of dress... but people seem to think that is what classifies as fashion....

This isnt fashion, id debate as to weather the person is even technically a man at all. If my daughter ever brings home a skinny jean wearing hipster ... after i finsh laughing at him he will go back out the front door on his back.

Abominations like this happen because europe hasnt had a war in nearly 80 years... so nothing to weed out this nonsence.

I have just over the past couple of months been noticing that its actually relaticly rare in Ireland to see a guy walking down the street who is in good shape and dressed smartly and has a good overall appearance.

What is far more common is guys who would seem to not give a crap and are going around in ill fitting unflattering clothing that almost loos thrown together. I'm talking about what would typically be known as "dad jeans" with XL sized shirts and ugly sweaters that are not nice.

Another poster the other day was on about how difficult it is to get shirts that fit well and that in the vast majority of mainstream outlets, even the slim fit tailored shirts are actually of a "forgiving" fit and can accomodate a pot belly.

Does anyone else think the average Irish man is just does not cut it in the style deparment?

Mind your own business - I wear loose clothes and such is something you're just going to have to get used to in general.

I wouldn't go that far, but seriously those "trousers" do not look good IMO!
