Bought the s7 yesterday. Full charge last night and down 28% overnight with an estimated 8 hours left... in battery saving mode. Google services using 65% of that. That can't be right!?

Pretty common if you've just set up your device and everything is syncing. I'd give it a day or two to settle.

Only dropped about 5% since that post almost 3 hours ago and that's with me using it so that does seem to be the case. I was getting worried! Cheers!! :)

Might do a custom ROM at the weekend to debloat it.
After rooting 4 HTCs, it should be easy. Right? :o

    Has anyone done it?

Using S7 for months and I am pleased with battery. Charge in evening, going to bed 12ish and it shows 98%, 7.30am and its usually 95 to 96%, you must have some apps or something running in the background or waking up phone regulary and logging in which just wasting battery. I use Nova Launcher, Package Disabler Pro to remove rubbish and bloatware which to most people are unwanted and GSam Battery Monitor to keep an eye on whats using what.

One of the big users I find using Gsam is Phone Radio, if your in an area with poor phone coverage this uses extra battery, lower your screenbrightness as well.

Any idea how to stop data coming on automatically? No matter how many times I turn it off to just use the wifi, the data will eventually come back on. I've restricted background data but it's still happening.

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

When I was setting up my phone there were options for allowing apps turn on location services, mobile data, wifi, etc. I assume this is causing your issue. No idea where to turn that off though, I assume under app options or data options

Dropped my s7, very slight crack running from bottom right (were back button is)diagonally to were bottom volume rocker is. Phone still works perfectly, touch screen still fine. But I'm afraid it'll get worse and may spread. Where is best place to get replacement screen? I see a guy on adverts.ie selling ones for €22 but don't know how to install myself. Sounds too cheap also.

Honestly, I wouldn't have a clue how to do it so I'd prefer somebody else do it. How much would a shop charge? €100 or more?

    Over €200, I'd say.

I picked up an S7 edge on saturday and i have question regarding the security setup. On my old phone (HTC M8) i could use a pattern to unlock the lock screen and set a code to unlock the sim card when the phone boots up. the S7 seems to use the same setting for both. Is there is any way to setup separate authentication types for screen unlock and sim unlock?

If anybody is looking to buy the official battery case for the S7 Edge it is available on amazon.co.uk for £44.99 which seems a pretty good price.

I have the edge also and i have a pin for my sim and then separate screen unlock (fingerprint in my case).

Is it possible you have the sim pin option currently set to disabled?

I found an option under Security called Secure Startup that has two options

    1. Require pattern when device powers on
    2. do not require

I dont see any option to specify that a pin is required instead of the pattern.

If i change the lock screen to use a PIN instead of a pattern then the Secure Startup options change to

    1. Require PIN when device powers on
    2. do not require

so they do seem to be tied together.

Where are you specifying that it should a PIN for the sim?

I recently picked up an S7 Edge as an upgrade from my dying Note 4. So far I'm really happy with it but I need to pick up some sort of a case for it as it's a bit slippy to hold.

Can anyone recommend something that's not too bulky? I was thinking of going down the oem LED case route.

    Anyone any other suggestions?

Ok...... so you go settings/lock screen and security....

Then scroll down to "other security settings" and "set up sim card lock" should be the first option.

This lock is for the sim only and is not related to the screen lock.

Google services using 37% of my battery today, surely that's not right? Screen is next at 21%, light to moderate use today. Browsing and whats app

Top man. I just need to figure out what the pin for the new sim card is.

Got that sorted now. thanks for the help. If i could just find a way to turn on power saving mode and still be able to send emails while on wifi i would be very happy.

I have been using the Samsung LED case for the last few weeks and it's pretty good. It has a decent rubber surround that the phone clicks into which offers decent protection (obviously not as much as a case that wraps around entirely but decent enough - I have dropped mine since getting the case and while the rubber is a bit scuffed, the phone is undamaged). The LED cover is pretty groovy but you have to compromise with it if you want full functionality. You can swipe the case cover to turn off an alarm but only if you use the native clock app for your alarms. You can use the case cover to skip music tracks but only if you use the Samsung Music app, not for Spotify or anything like that. You can assign LED pictures to contacts, which pop up on the case cover but you can't design your own, like you can with the HTC Dot View case. The LED clock is cool but you can't change anything about it. I'm happy with the case and I don't think I'll be changing it but Samsung could have make it way more functional.
