There was some period drama on BBC during the year, possibly Versailles, but they had a black woman playing a very white historical figure. (By 'very white', I mean that I checked some images/paintings of the real historical person, and she'd out-pale the Gothiest Goth.) What's the deal with that? Artistic licence? Diversity?
It's a bit weird where TV decides to pick and choose skin colour.

Whenever they show prehistoric stone age peoples they're nearly always white. Even though white people didn't exist back then. Same for Egyptians, while they may not have been exclusively black, there was certainly a large population of black people living there. It sounds like they had every colour of the rainbow living there and wouldn't look like the egyptians we know today.

Meh. The luvies at the BBC have been telling us little people that diversity is our strength and must be embraced. Well let them embrace it now. Oh I'm sorry, you lost your job to a Somali? Well maybe you should have worked harder then.

Think that was Pirate Radio Station,

    Not the BEEB :P

=(:-) Me? I know who I am. I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude (-:)=

If you are Irish it would be a strange case to take, but you should certainly pursue it and let us know how you got on.

What is the relevance of the demographic breakdown of the UK?

It's always good to show just how many white people there are in the UK I suppose. With all the hysteria that comes from the little englanders you'd think they were in the minority.

The whole BBC being hideously white comments. You know as the population at large is white.

Those comments were made over 15 years ago by someone no longer at the BBC.

The BBC is more than just a service for people within the UK. The BBC is a global corporation. You do realise that any diversity targets set by them include all employees of the BBC around the world?

On what merit ? Skin colour has zero bearing on what way you perform in the job. Same with sexuality. You do know the BBC is a British media outlet paid for by the British taxpayer.

I don't work for the BBC, nor do I care what they do. If you have an issue with their diversity targets, take it up with them.

I do know that the british taxpayer contributes towards the BBC, however the BBC also makes money from BBC Worldwide. The BBC employs thousands of people worldwide. They set their targets in relation to all employees worldwide, including countries where the poor white heterosexual man is in the minority.

On the face of it the BBC seems to be doing a sterling job and the new diversity measures are going the extra mile. But anyone who has worked on a BBC production would have trouble matching the 13.4% figure with the reality of being there.

As we can tell from the data which, as a commendably transparent organisation the BBC publishes, the 13.4% figure is vastly inflated by two sets of people – people working in finance and on programmes broadcast outside of the UK.
When you take out the two business divisions and the World Service, the percentage of BAME people actually working at the BBC making output for a British audience is just 9.2%.

If you have a problem with this, take it up with the BBC.

In the UK , but not here obviously, travellers are an ethnic minority.

    An under represented minority ?
