It the driest county in Ireland.

Lads are talking about the mayo curse . The real reason they can't win Sam is because it's never dry enough to practise

Decent crop? any indication of yield? must clean out my pit yet, strange seeing maize go in when lads are still trying to get grain out of fields. get the netting on straight away before them fcukers of crows get at it. have a couple of lorry curtains for the back of my pit, will double up any mats on the front then. Last year i kept the last two trailers seperate and covered them with offcuts of plastic so i could feed that first without opening the main pit. easier to manage main pit when feeding full whack.

If you have problems with the face of the maize pit heating, spray it with propionic acid. Simples.

    Yes!...

If the driest county in Ireland is in the Southern Hemisphere.

Anyhow which tourist luring county now lays claim to be the driest? Iirc Wexford used to claim the sunniest.

Where did you buy the cubicles. Are you putting in a brisket board. Are they better than mushroom cubicles or just handler installed.

Teemore cubicle, bought and installed by local dealer. We stood posts when doing beds.

Yes brisket board going in we will split the 6*3 timbers we used as screeds and bolt to floor

    Nearly there

Fine looking job. You might be getting a call from Donald about a pretty high wall out Mexico way yet.
I never saw the mat clamps put on at that end before, good idea, my ladies lift the end of some of the mats for a scratch sometimes... Annoying

If I remember you had an exact measurement for how far on to the cubicle the brisket board should be? If so do you happen to have it to hand ?? !!

    Need to do something similar.

Well If I was dairymaster I think I'd be firing the auctioneer :)

Have a list of the below reserve prices where bidding stopped for the first 16 or so tanks if anybody wants prices. They'll be happy to take offers next week I would say.

I think out of 45 tanks only half a dozen or so actually had a deal in the offing by the end, although I will confess to losing interest after my lot so I may have missed some of of the bigger / newer ones.

Stick up a few prices and we can have an idea of the ranges.

I thought I would get a chance to wander down for a bit but the morning got away from me.

Any smaller tanks like a few hundred liters?

    Nothing under 300 gals..

1 old round tank .. which sold for 300.

4 packo open tops 300 to 700 gals of which only the smallest sold at 400e. In general bids stopped below the reserve which was I reckon a euro a gallon for the small tanks.

A few Mueller dx tanks 600 to 800 gallons only one of which sold at just over 1 euro a gallon.

Basically few bids went over 1000 and they weren't happy to sell that low although they may have dealt later.

I have a provisional bid accepted on a big Dutch zero Ice bank tank with a Kilkenny washer for 1000e at 1000 gallons, we haven't quite finalised it as they want to haggle up a bit but we left a deposit.

It's a bit on the big side for me but if we come to terms with them we'll just plumb it into our existing ice bank and take the tank out of that for a cheese vat. The Kilkenny washer is old and missing a drain valve and a detergent tube but I suspect someone will have spares.

Well have to enlarge the dairy a bit.

Some larger tanks later on a few of which came with compressors.

Weird kind of an auction, perhaps everyone was waiting for the post auction auction. I have the full list is anyone needs it.

Looks like wholesale prices for fertilizers are dropping still.

I am seriously thinking of buying about half my N and all my Ps early in the year so the interest will be covered by a reduction in price from getting a full load delivered straight to my yard.

I've never done it that way before so it will be a learning experience and hopefully a profitable one.

One of the mad heifers is getting worse. I have decided I would prefer to live to see Christmas and will get rid of her. What are my options. Straight to factory. Put calves on her or dry her off and fatten her. She is an lhz out of one of my quietest cows

I'd take the hit straight to the factory. Would she take on with calves if she is that wild. Seen them letting a calf drink in a pen but once they got outside they wouldn't let them near them.

She is very quiet in the field. Pure bitch in the parlour. Kicking with both legs. Rest of them have quietened down ok. She is in good enough condition. Maybe I should put her on donedeal and let some poor unfortunate take her on :)

Oh jeez don't say that about lhz.
My stock bull is by lhz. He's out of a laurel cow (red holstein).
Well at least the calves will be only 25% lhz.

    Is she red?

Does she have any redeeming features beyond her behaviour in the parlour?
