If laws are not enforced - with physical violence - the law has no teeth.

Honestly, it's a moral compass like the OP has that makes me wish Ireland had Second Amendment rights like the US. (S)he'd be "enforcing" those morals from the wrong end of the barrel...

I'm out of this toxic sludge. I have enough to deal with IRL when people like you attempt to slime and fight their way over my rights. You go on being a free spirit, and I'll keep on trying to do my part to clean up the mess you leave behind.
Which is cool, but the more people ignore these kind of attitudes, the more they will grow. And these attitudes are growing. YOu mentioned Trump(in my youth another slang word for a fart. Yep). Yes he's an utter farce and a dangerous enough one(though Hillary also has potential there). But think on this; he was ignored, laughed at, mocked, written off as a sideshow and rightly so, but Donald Trump is now the voted for United States presidential candidate for the party that gave the world Abraham Lincoln.

I don't think the OP's heart is really in it. The only castration he mentions is metaphorical.

OK I'll bite... The OP's delivery may need some (a LOT) of work, but there's an interesting topic in there nonetheless..

He IS right in that we as a society (The West) have become softer, more inward-looking and liberal in the last 30 years, and while this has been a good thing in many respects, it's also led to problems like a weaker/more ineffective justice system and a society that is less capable of dealing with "old school" threats like antisocial behaviour, criminality or indeed (to take it to an extreme) terrorism.

In our liberal, tolerant, politically-correct society where everything must be in-line with the agreed consensus on social media, and a traditional media with websites and 24 hours to fill normalising this, we find ourselves unable to deal effectively with those who don't "conform" with this outlook - whether it be feral kids who make life miserable for their neighbours, or radicalised terrorists causing mass destruction.

Not everything can be "talked out" or resolved by "examining your feelings" or validation by the online community, but I disagree with the OP's conclusions that corporal punishment, the exclusion of women from the Gardai, and demonising single mothers again is the way forward - although to be fair I think maybe this is more an extreme reaction to the frustration caused by this paralysis?

Surely there has to be a middle ground?

Ah the goods old days Joe. Homosexuality, same sex marriage, divorce were all illegal. Pedophilia rampant in the catholic church. High rates of unemployment and poor standards of living. Single mothers were locked up and abused.

Ah Joe, the good old days, we were miserable but we were happy Joe, the good old days.

I know they're a very easy target P, but it's equally easy to forget that the vote swing against divorce was higher among the various Protestant Irish communities and see how well one would fare in the past as a pregnant teen in the Presbyterian church or CofI for that matter.

How about restoring the taboo on single motherhood? A woman who was a single mother in the past was considered the same as a whore and her children were labelled as bastards. Sexual taboos were ruthlessly enforced.

The is a report by a police commissioner from 1922 about Juvenal crime in Dublin and to sum up his conclusion it was cause hanging around cinemas and being out at night time.

Before the 18th century the ideas of sending someone to prison for years on end as punishment would have seemed an odd idea, prisons as we know them only emerged after the 18th century.

There is always this harking back to a supposed golden past it is a them through out history. It was a large part of Nazi ideology. Trump talks about making America great again.

It's the job of decent people to keep thugs and abusers like you from giving free rein to your sociopathy.
Hang on… how did yer man become a thuggish sociopathic abuser? Them's some really heavy duty accusations to be throwing around about someone you don't know who wrote a two sentence post. Jesus. Overreaction much? And this is "decent people" for you?

Oh and just to be perfectly clear here; I do not want the type of conservative society outlined in the OP and I gave up the religion thing as a fairytale a long time ago. I just find it interesting the oft lack of insight and definition of "decency" on both sides.

Is it any surprise scumbags who are the product of dingle mothers?

I'm glad you've had the courage to finally expose this, OP. For too long, these aran-jumper wearing, fairy-door selling, arts and crafts types have been allowed to run amok and cause havoc with their muesli-eating, black pudding making, local fresh fish selling spawn. It's time that we as a society try and stamp out this menace. I think an internment camp for people that smell vaguely of patchouli oil should be set up in the area.

The relaxation of sexual morals in particular the acceptance of single motherhood has led to the creation of fatherless welfare dependent asocial young offenders who have not learned the value of work or the masculine virtues of discipline and gruelling physical labour due to an absence of responsible fathers.

In school they play truant or are defiantly disruptive - perhaps a subconscious demand to be loved rather than managed by teachers playing the surrogate parent role due to the fecklessness of their parents. The absence of punishment - violent painful punishment at the hands of a stick wielding male teacher - means they are scornful of female teachers who give them mere verbal reprimands - all that their mothers can do too incidentally since there is no father to administer a physical chastisement.

As they emerge from school with no education since no discipline was enforced they lack the ability to knuckle down and obey orders from authority figures at work or law enforcement. They are unemployable and resort to anti social behavior or full blown careers in crime.

Cops cannot administer beatings to juvenile scum without human rights crusaders breathing down their necks. The relaxation of height requirements and the introduction of females into the police force has resulted in its castration.

If laws are not enforced - with physical violence - the law has no teeth. Fatherless juvenile feral scum who received no chastisement in the home or school will have no fear of cops or courts which send them for treatment and counselling and give them suspended sentences. Sending them to prison is no punishment if they have gyms and games consoles and TV and three square meals and loaf about all day.

In the past prison were brutal wretched places with harsh regimes enforced by physical violence such as flogging combined with hard labour and a very basic diet.

Is it any surprise scumbags who are the product of dingle mothers and inept teachers and a soft justice system go on to offend and offend and offend?

How about restoring the taboo on single motherhood? A woman who was a single mother in the past was considered the same as a whore and her children were labelled as bastards. Sexual taboos were ruthlessly enforced.

In the past if you defied a teacher you got the crap beaten out of you and when you came home you got a beating from your father who was feared. Fathers didn't give hugs or tell you they loved you. They chastised you and put manners on you.

In the past apprentices who gave lip got a dig from their peers or their employers. You got out of line you got squashed. Simple as.

Gangs of feral kids were sorted out by locals who send them home with a kick up the backside and clip over the ear. Cops like Lugs Brannigan never bothered the juvenile courts and administered savage beatings to jumped up thugs.

Nip it in the bud at the very start and society will become safer and quieter. We can go back to the days of leaving our doors unlocked.

    Soooo much assuption...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Jaysis, it shows how times have changed and how old you made me feel.:) when I read that typo the very first thing that sprang to mind was the Kerry Babies case. Which in the context of this thread should be informative for those who want to return to the good old days.

It's not safe for a decent moral man to walk the streets of Dingle these days, what with all the trollops trying to trick you into fathering their children.
It spoils the shopping for me anyway.

On re reading the op it actually starts to become a bit sinister, the length and language, like it was written by someone who was enjoying writing about children getting beaten

Relationships seem to be throw-away items now. Maybe there is something in the idea that the demise of the 'nuclear family' is bad for society. No need to be extreme about it, though.
