I always laugh at people saying "I got it free as an upgrade".
You are on a €60 a month contract for 2 years, you can get the same usage for €12-€15 on a sim only plan, your free upgrade is costing you well over a grand. Which is fine if you understand that, but I swear some people don't.

Agreed. A simple calculation comparing the cost of a
    1) Two year plan + phone
    or
    2) 48 Months/Lycamobile plan + self bought phone

Option 2 will always, always win.
    Dumb people are dumb.

I have a Galaxy S6 but I got it extremely cheap (around 250) - the best value are some of the good chinese manufacturers, excellent return per euro. Had the OnePlus One before this, didn't even need to upgrade but I wanted to try the GearVR with the S6. Both my parents are using €50 Doogee X5's I got them, €50 each and would be comparable to a €99 phone in shops here. The €50 smartphones you buy here are just appalling, even for a light user they're a pain to use.

Not the best researched OP. For around 400 youll pick up an lg g5- still not cheap but comparable to the iphone se. For that you're getting a pretty fast snapdragon processor, a super camera (not an slr by any means but for what it is its excellent), 4K video and a screen thats outstanding (and better than anything on an iphone at present.

That price is roughly the same as many entry level laptops with a basic celeron and poor quality screen

    Blame idiots that buy them.

The latest OnePlus pisses allover the latest flagship iPhones, Samsung, LG etc at less than half the price.

People falling for big brand names.

    It actually doesn't but anyway...

I have an S6 Edge plus meself, not because I'm into gadgets (even though I kinda am) but, simply because the phone company give me a new one every year/every other year respectively.
I don't know much about the oneplus editions of phones, but one thing i will say, I have literally never came across anyone using one yet.

Who owns all these phones, and why is everyone hiding them

Well it does actually (certainly the OnePlus 3 v iPhone 7). Bigger screen, more storage, 3 times the RAM, better camera, higher screen resolution etc etc

I have a Huawei Ascend g7. It cost about €250 new 2 years ago. It has 16gb of internal memory. 5 megapixel camera on the inside and 13 megapixel camera on the outside. 5.5 inch screen and although it's running an outdated android version it still does what I need it to do. If I became rich tomorrow I'd buy something more up to date but for now I'm happy with what I have.

Why do you need to take photos of the inside of your phone?

    :pac:

For the price, the OnePlus 3 is incredible.
I was going for the iPhone 7 but it just didn't wow me enough.
Although really like the new update iOS10.

Just moved from iPhone 6 to OnePlus during the week and happy with the change.
New phone is way faster and build quality seems even better than the iPhone.

There are some things I prefer more on the iPhone but these are more personal preference than anything.

Also love the customisation available on Android.

You can buy a samsung 5 inch screen or huawei phone for 150 euro
    approx.
An iphone 7 is nearly 1000 euro, because of the brand ,like buying a bmw car.Its a fast phone ,with no headphone socket. The camera is very good.
The battery life is worse than an iphone 6.
The iphone is a status symbol .its a luxury item.
Theres no such thing as a free phone,
you get upgrades cos you are paying 30 euro plus on a contract.
No one is forced to buy an iphone.
no one needs a 4k phone ,its pointless .
it,s like people who watch movies on a phone .

I'm typing this on a Oneplus One. I just checked on my Oneplus Three order. It's with An Post for delivery on Monday. I'm not hiding.

The price of phones changes anyway based on so many variables. For one if you're going to keep a phone for 3 or 4 months all phones are expensive. But if you keep an iphone or samsung expensive phone for 3-4 years... then what's the problem

I can't get my head around people who spend so much of their time trying to influence others phone choices on the internet so much

Ah, I'm only messing about the hiding part, but by reading these boards, they seem to be a pretty popular phone (along with nexus devices)

But I honestly hasn't encountered anyone using them yet, prob (I presume) because most of the people I deal with, day in, day out wouldn't be technologically minded in that regards, and prob always fall for the brand name.

I would like to have a play around with a one plus device, as an avid poster in the android forum, they're supposedly a very cool device, but as I already said, my only problem is that the mobile companies throw phones in to me as part of work contract.

Might be a good birthday present for Mrs Stewart though, and I can get her off her 55€ a month contract!

Stop complaining. To acquire the same functions of an average smartphone in 1985 it would have cost $32,000,000.

Buy a flagship phone (albeit never Apple) once every 2-3 years. They're definitely overpriced but I like having a good phone with a decent processor and camera. When I think of all the things I (pretty much constantly) use it for: phone, messaging, camera; web browsing, GPS (maps, driving, running), reading ebooks, playing music, calendar, it's not an outrageous financial outlay over a couple of years.

I have the OG Nexus 5 over 3 years now, it's no longer officially getting android updates with the latest OS, but because it's a stock Nexus it still gets a once a month security update...

I could flash the latest android on it when I'm arsed but I may upgrade to last year's one, this year, if it's affordable at that stage.... :P

I tend to buy sim free phone's, my 20 a month PAYG plan does me usually 5 weeks so can't complain really...

To contrast that, I use a 2013 MB Air for music stuff, OSX got updated the other day and I have no reason to upgrade with the fear of forced apple obscelence on my 3 year old machine...

Actually when you split out what you're paying for, it makes very little odds. Over the period my s7 would have cost me approx 580.

Madness. Throwing money away on something that rapidly depreciates in value, needs to be charged up almost daily and will be obsolete in a year or two.

I paid 600 for my iPhone 6 two years ago.
Bought it stiil sealed in the box of a guy who got it as an upgrade.

Used iPhone 6's are going for 400 now.
Can't see how you call that madness or throwing away money on something that me personally uses it as a way more than just a phone.

At the minute I'm using a 5 year old iphone 4s and the latest update (iOS 10) is the first software update it hasnt been compatible with, when you show me a 5 year old one plus that can run the lates software update (or even still works) come back to me.

In this household we have a Note, Note2 and Note3 all running Android 6.0.1.

The only reason they aren't running Android 7 is that there are no stables releases just yet but that's being worked upon.

Well if you get a lot of use from it beyond the basic calls, texts and internet, that's different. I don't have one and I don't know what the most popular apps are but I do know people who ONLY use the novelty apps..once or twice. It is a vanity thing/status symbol just like wearing jumpers with a brand name on the front, for some people

People that state you pay a premium for just the name and logo have no experience of how products are conceived, researched, developed, tested and finally manufactured.

The premium flagship phones have a lot more engineering design effort gone into them than your budget phones.

This is one of the few subjects these days where tightwads feel it's ok to wave their stinge flag high and proud.
Your sub200 quid android that will be lagging to fk after a year, has a battery that goes to **** thanks to google play services mystery drain ,is a security nightmare and takes photos that look like Vaseline is smeared on the lense is not "just as good as the iPhone"
Yes the iPhone is overpriced, that doesn't mean the cheaper androids are good value. There are big compromises, not least handing over all your personal data to google, who are far less trustworthy in terms of how they use that data then apple.
Btw yes I own an apple, but every phone I used before that was android, everything from high end to cheap &150€ phone so not an apple fanboy by any stretch

And people who say otherwise should have a little look at the constant litigation between the major players and the reasons why

I see flagship phones as the early adopters who pay a premium to road test the tech that will be available for a fraction of the price a couple of years later.

Spending a lot of money on a phone that is probably going to get broken doesn't appeal to me. About 20% of phones currently in use have cracked screens (http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/motorola-shattershield-cracked-smartphone-screen-survey/) and this doesn't include the number of people who either pay to have the phone repaired, or just buy a new phone when it inevitably happens to them

In the next year or two, there will be a broader availability of shatterproof and waterproof phones, and when this happens, I'll be much happier to spend a bit more money on a good phone that is likely to last a decent amount of time. (unless I lose it)

    Ban billionaires

Really funny how touchy people get about iPhone android etc. It's a phone and a personal decision at the end of the day. Lol.
