    SCARLETS:

    A Thomas; L Williams, Jonathan Davies, H Parkes, S Evans; R Patchell, G Davies; W Jones, K Owens, W Kruger; J Ball, D Bulbring; A Shingler, James Davies, J Barclay.

    Replacements:

    R Elias, L Garrett, P Edwards, L Rawlins, M Allen, A Davies, S Williams, W Boyde.

    CONNACHT:

    T O’Halloran; N Adeolokun, B Aki, E Griffin, M Healy; J Carty, K Marmion; D Buckley, T McCartney, F Bealham; Q Roux, A Browne; U Dillane, J Heenan, J Muldoon.

    Replacements:

    D Heffernan, R Loughney, JP Cooney, L Stevenson, E McKeon, C Blade, S O’Leary, C Kelleher.

Both teams are in desperate need of a win, with Scarlets pointless after three and Connacht likewise after two, having gotten a break last week when weather conditions forced the postponement of their clash with Zebre when trailing 22 10 at half time.

Connacht have their strongest XV of the season but still have a lengthy list of absentees most notably O'Brien, Masterson, Ronaldson and Robb. The selection of Dillane at 6 will ensure plenty of line out options and perhaps allow him to focus more on causing havoc in open play.

    Prediction: Connacht by 2

Edit: Just in case thread title causes any confusion, Scarlets are at home.

God how I would love Connacht to win, but after last week its hard to see that defence surviving for 80 minutes against that Scarlet back line. Especially when a group of pensioners managed to score 3 tries in 40 minutes. On paper Connacht have a chance but based on what I've seen its hard to see.

Connacht and Scarlets have both been crap this season. This Scarlets team lost to THAT Edinburgh team.

Hopefully at least one of them will improve this week.

The Scarlett's performance against Munster in Week 1 hurt my eyes it was so bad. With the talent they have they shouldn't be that bad. Would fancy Connacht for this as at least they have an excuse for their poor start to the season.

A win tonight could be what Connacht need to kick start there season.

Great scrum by the Connacht pack, and Carty misses touch. Lots of errors from both sides so far.

The Liam Williams look alike is having a shocker off the tee.

Jesus, Connacht are conceding such stupid penalties.

nearly 50m gain thanks to adeolokun's kick and follow up

Who is the scarlets kicker and why is patchell not kicking. Marmion should have been carded there IMO

Aled Thomas, taking the kicks and playing FB, is apparently a fly half.....

And he's just gotten a try

    Get in Connacht!

Well after a comedy of errors, Niyi gets over in the corner.

This score might put a bit of focus into the teams - it's a real bottom table error-strewn scrap at the moment.

    Conversion off the posts

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Swan Curry

Niyi's been on another level to every other player out on the pitch so far

Decent kick. Let's hope Scarlets stick with the same kicker all night......Patchell is quite good off the tee, if I remember rightly.

    Clancy, learn the rules.

Have to say i feel clancy is giving them penalties far easier than us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Patchell misses touch badly......sends out into the in goal area! Let off for Connacht big time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Weather noted but this is shocking so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Cathalthesmart

Clancy is another ref who thinks by giving nothing to the team from his country he is being objective.

If you have Sky, S4C (channel 134) have English speaking commentary via the Red Button.

Bad miss by jack but hes having good game so far

How many penalties have Connacht given away now?

It's Clancy, the ultimate homer. He pinged Buckley for off the feet, about 10 seconds after the previous phase when he watched a Scarlets player hold on despite Buckley executing the perfect jackal, and when he finally did give him one he let the Scarlets player hold on for ages before awarding a penalty. He's laughably one-eyed.

Is it very windy or something there? Nobody can kick, it seems.

You'll find it very hard to win tight games or games you don't deserve to win with Carty.

Two awful kicks from the last two advantages, the first a nothing kick into the 22 and the second far too early.

Place kicking is woeful as well.

I honestly don't know why he's starting for this many seasons now.

It's wet, but the commentators said at the start that the wind had died down.

Did Barkley lead with his arm there?

Because we have no one else up to the level required. (Not that I think Carty is up to this level). He wasn't starting when McGinty was here and fit. He hopefully won't be starting when Ronaldson is fit.

Jonathan Davies' silky smooth hands on show again

  • Site Banned Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭Adbrowne

    That was beautiful

Lovely try, and sense prevails.....Patchel kicking now. 7-5.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

JD makes an utter mess of a simple pass and redeems it with utterly wonderful hands to release Williams for the try.

if connacht had a half competent kicker they could still be going in at half time in the lead

    Whoops ;)

That said, your point stands, it's too close a game to be kicking away points...

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,937 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

What a terrible half of rugby.

  • Registered Users Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Cathalthesmart

That half wasn't good at all from either team but Connacht are in front which is the important thing. I dont care how they do it but Connacht need to win, if they do it will fill them with confidence going into the Edinburgh game.

I'm gonna say it. Scarlets are total sh!te. They really shouldn't be, but they are. Davies is a class player but even he looks pretty average in that Scarlets jersey. They're the new Cardiff. If Connacht can sort out their discipline (a big ask with Mr Overcompensation in the middle) and tighten up a bit they should win this.

That maul that Owen came in from the side was jogging towards the line and Owen made absolutely no attempt to enter correctly I have no idea how he didn't even have a 2nd look at it.

Adeolokun looks so sharp really hope he gets called up for the AIs

Eh connacht got a penalty. Should have been a card though

That Owens penalty demanded a conversation from Clancy. It was cynical as feck. But Clancy left it at just the penalty. Having watched Whitehouse have a good game earlier it really highlights how poor Clancy has been this evening.

Oops didn't see there was a match thread. From the main thread:

Sitting in the airport waiting for a delayed flight so can't watch the match...

We seem to be giving away a lot of penalties. Poor discipline, unlucky or both? Thank jaysus none of the Scarlets lads brought their kicking boots...

I know I meant 2nd look to see if it was worthy of a card. On first look it seemed card worthy to me but Clancy obviously needs a 2nd look
