Examples of technology 'thinking' going backwards . . .

I may not have explained myself properly in the title, but what I'm refering to is the likes of the missing headphone socket on the new iPhone = A backwards step?

I totally understand the (waterproof) bluetooth headphones idea behing the missing socket, but practically speaking surely a headphone socket is a very handy thing to have. Other examples might include no mudgards on new bicycles (rear mudgards used to protect your trousers/bum from getting soaked on a wet day), yet nowadays many new bikes have no mudgards!

    Any other suggestions?

The new way to pay with your card ... Contactless payment. the pin was put there to protect you from anyone skimming money if you lost your card. I know it's only E30 a go but ten shops later .. that's a good days haul..

You can still plug in headphones to new iPhone either the lighting type or the old type with a adopter.

Air travel. The loss Of The Concorde set back air speed a good bit. At least it could be making a comeback.

No spare wheels as standard in lots of new cars.
Cars with keyless ignition where the keys can be easily cloned and car stolen, what was so difficult about needing to put your much more secure key in to the ignition to start the car?
    Phones with no FM radio.

Is there also not a monthly limit? There is on mine I think because after a while I wasn't able to use it anymore, it wasn't very much either, maybe around 100-200 euro

From my understanding of it, I'd say digital versus analog synthesisers

Some Merc, Audi amd Beemer cars now don't have oil dipsticks. Toatal scam to make you go to the main dealers to get rode. You can ruin an engine if its too low or too high in oil.

I bought 3 pairs of underpants in M&S, and only when I opened the pack at home did I discover there was no "fly" in them.

    I mean- WTF?

    That's pretty awkward looking

Yea I suppose, but after using it for a while you'll definitely buy the Apple TM ones, won't you.

Also how can you charge it while listening to music?

    Actually these look cool.

Analogue Hi Fi sounded better than digital in my opinion. A good old turntable, amp & speakers just sounded better/with more punch! Yes, CD & MP3 is so much more portable and convienient, but 'sound wise' I can't help thinking we've taken a backward step at the top end of Hi Fi sound.

Contactless fraud is only a fraction of the old fashioned skimming. You're card has to be stolen from you for someone to use the Contactless and the banks have measures in place to detect fraud. Apart from you reporting your card stolen/lost any unusual spending like 5 Contactless transactions in a row in quick succession will mean subsequent transactions even under the €30 limit will ask for a pin.

Whereas with traditional card skimming the victim won't even know. They'll still have their card and you'd be amazed how little people pay attention to the activity in their bank account. Plus there's no €30 limit on this type of activity. Fraudsters can make off with alot more.

Public Transport, in the 1890's all the trams in Dublin were electric, then they were done away with for fossil fuels, then we got the DART and LUAS, we did a full circle.

It will be the same with contactless cards sooner, if not already, the card has an RFID or NFC chip which could easily be cloned while still in your pocket.

    VR technology for gaming.

I want to crash out on my sofa in front of my TV and play games. If you can offer me an experience like the X-Men's Danger Room, or the Enterprises holodeck I might be interested but till then your expensive goggles are just an annoyance.

Or you can order a dipstick for them. Or you can check it using the on board computer.

Get a SecurIT wallet so, protects against this.

Removable batteries. Getting harder and harder to buy a flagship phone with one. Power users are the exact people who need to be able to carry swap-able batteries. Reason I'm still with LG.

The old Boeing clipper seaplanes and zeppelins seemed far more civilised methods of air travel than the equivelent we have today.
