I've watched the first 4 episodes of this new season and then got bored. I don't really like the American cars and the new format is pretty bad :)

Based on Brewers twitter for the last month (why do I follow somebody I dislike) I think something is likely to change with WD.

He is knocking Discovery UK a lot and then this:

Can Brewer call the shots though? Yes the series has become successful but in the name of god can they not find another presenter. 13 years of MB is far to long.

Never understood the hate for MB. Ok, the cockney geezer car dealer thing might get a bit old but it is who he is and it's a nice contrast with Ed who is the exact opposite. If it was two Mikes or two Ed's the show wouldn't work at all.
IMO the UK version of the show was fine as was, Ed in the garage and Mike finding and selling. The problem now is the Americanisation of it.

You'll be able to watch a French version at some point instead if UK/US Mike Brewer is too annoying.

The Ed look-a-like is more convincing than the Mike Brewer though.

I think the original version did so well because no matter what people thought of mike it was so British it was right.

True. If they are going down this route though there could be a WD US and WD UK.

IIRC correctly he said that he planned to move to the US fully or something like that.

Looking at an old episode on Quest +1, where China has short tidy hair. :) Turns out it is S.1, ep.1, a 1983 Porsche 924 for £700. Edd does everything with first 30 minutes doing bodywork alone including the refurb on the alloys.

Passenger door and door mirrors, pulled and filled dent in rear nearside quarter panel, repainted wheels and replaced the centre caps, applied new door sill decals, replaced handbrake lever, replaced handbrake warning light, adjusted rear exhaust section to prevent it from knocking against the undercarriage, fitted a new stereo, engine service including replacing the engine oil, spark plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap and air filter, cleaned up the leather interior, polished the bodywork. replaced gear knob.

    Sold for £1,500.

I like the old ones. Didn't get to see that last series and judging by some comments on here, I'm not sure I'm bothered.

It's funny, when Mike just buys the cars and parts people are whinging that he does no work. Now that he's doing work, people are still whinging

I didn't bother with the American shows. I find them terrible and I think that market is already flooded in the US with the likes of Overhaulin', Gas Monkey etc. Can't wait for the next UK one and let's hope they do some nice cars. An E46 M3 would be a good option and the RX8 isn't too far off either (hopefully with a bit of an engine rebuild).

Not 100% sure but I think this half of the season was filmed in the UK.

'' now all this shaft needs is some lube and I can shove it in ''

I'm surprised there isn't a whole youtube video dedicated to Ed's unintentional innuendo

"Genuinely doesn't look like the same car". Yes, Mike, that would be because it isn't. What did they keep other than the engine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,820 ✭✭✭FanadMan

That was a joke! The first half of the US series was bad but now they seem to have a totally bottomless wallet. They basically kept the engine and chassis and replaced the rest.

Oh, to be with the days when there was a budget and Edd couldn't do things because there was no money left :(

Only upside was that Mike didn't pretend to be a mechanic this time!

This series is turning into a joke, firstly, I am not a fan of "yank tanks", now that maybe only me granted, but take for instance last nights episode where there just happened to be a freshly painted body, (that someone failed to come back for??) under a cover that was the item exactly needed for the guys rotten one???.........................................

........................c'mon, dont take us for fools!!!!!

They need to do cars from other nations and not the yanks, they have done too much from there.

They're chasing the US TV market which is where the big bucks are. Problem being that while they could do cars from all over the world, that will probably lead to a big loss of viewership in America. So I think we're going to be seeing plenty more yank tanks I'm afraid.

Personally, have no problem with them doing muscle cars and the like, anyone can appreciate those. But the whole truck thing is very particular to the US market and I'd rather see them do up a Lada instead.

I dont mind some the good ol boys yank stuff but the show has lost its appeal for quite a while. Last nights one though I couldn't even watch once they came up with the spare Bronco bit, I switched off. I have seen this on other US shows so I wouldn't say it was messed up but quite a lot of us could buy 2 cars and make a good one somehow, its not exactly saving the classics the show is about after all.

I hate the alloys and I hate the black tinted windows, talk about destroying it with the easiest pieces of work to do, just leave them as original as possible.
