I'll be doing the 3/4 marathon the following week.

Whats the plan for the 3/4 - I'm doing it too.

Was either thinking of doing 4 beforehand for longest run of 24m (as per P&D) or doing a session during it.

Downside of a session is that I've a bit on in a 6 week window (Flatline Half/ Dub Half & the 3/4 Mara) and dont want to overcook myself.
I'll race 1 of the HM and MP the other.

Do you ever look at Strava local for running routes?

Looks like he found two of the top routes all by himself (or possibly with some help from the concierge). :p

Tnx FD, but with only 12 weeks to go I've got to start hitting the sessions, I've been talking about a sub 3 for years not its time to man up!!!

Hey A, I don't know yet, I'm hoping to do the Charleville half in 2 weeks and I'll decide with L shortly after that.

Hey Murph, at least I only hit the "wall" on that session in the park and not a tree :) and yes a combination of bad concierge directions and a taxi driver got me to those routes!

Saturday: after a delayed layover in the circus that is Bogota airport I missed my connecting flight from London to Dublin. Got into Dublin after 8pm after more than 20 hours travelling and was in no mood to run but changed in the car and ran a nursing home special down to Santry Park and back. Can't say I enjoyed it or the drive home but got it done. 4 miles @ 9.01

Sunday: plan called for 9 miles easy. Didn't get up till 1pm today!! Had a gate to paint for Mrs TbL and was told when heading out for my run that I'd only 75 mins as I needed to bring my daughter for a swim in the sea. Got 9 miles done @ 7.55 and perversely, after the week I've had, the body felt the best it's been in yonks.

I've lost over a stone in 8 weeks and I'd like to lose another one before SS. Not having the equivalent of a two stone bag of skittles hanging off your arse, hips and belly has gotta be good for a few minutes over 26 miles.

66.5 miles for the week, would have hit 70 but I'm sensible now (and Mrs TbL wouldn't let me) :)

That's a really good week considering the amount of travelling C, my head is spinning trying to figure out if you've cheated 8 days into 7 with time zones etc....either way its great to see though - keep it up!

Today: plan called for wu/cd with 6 miles at marathon pace. One of those dreary type of days both from a work and weather perspective. After waking up looking forward to this my motivation plummeted as the day went on. I seem to get tired and irritable earlier in the day these days, must be getting on when the thought of an afternoon nap is appealing.

As I started early this morning I took an extended lunch to get this done. Rocked up to Seanadh Pheistin to do this as it was most convenient time wise, but not great route wise with some rolling hills. Got 2 miles very easy warm up done and started in the MP miles. Tried to bank a few seconds on the first mile as almost all of mile 2 was uphill, probably ran too hard on the hill on mile two and was working harder than I would have liked. Got the MP miles done but not as comfortable as I'd hoped, the thought of tacking another 20 miles at that pace is daunting. Finished with a 2 mile cool down.

    MP splits:

    6.40
    7.14
    6.53
    6.47
    6.24
    6.55

    10 miles.

Had to bring daughter to GA training, weather was cat and I'd an hour to kill so I put on the smelly sodden gear from the earlier run and got another 3 miles done at recovery pace 8.58.

    13 miles for day.

Not to worsen your mood or anything like but the weather was amazing here today, 28 degrees and sunny, I"m still in shorts (yes they're denim :D) and t-shirt :p

Well done on the MP miles.

On a serious note, I know we all rock on about your travel and how it interferes with training - but your ability to do doubles/run when the chance presents itself/ run after getting off a plane....etc etc...... is just fantastic.
Very few of us here have your dedication.

Today: plan called for recovery miles.

It's taking military like planning to map out my runs for the week and trying to ensure I'm getting them done, and it's getting even harder now that the days are getting shorter! Don't have the big city lectric out here in the sticks and I've dusted down my head torch!

Off to London tomorrow afternoon and then going to Stoke on Friday for the Spurs match on Saturday, with my young lad and his buddy so I'll struggle to run Friday and definitely won't get out on Saturday. Still hoping to get 55-60 miles done.

Got 6 miles easy done this morning @ 8.33 and another 4 done this evening @ 8.37, both way to fast for nursing home specials!

    10 miles for the day.

I won't sweet talk you like AMK, we all know his reasoning behind that. But as he said your dedication and drive is to be admired, that is all.

Today: plan called for 7 miles easy and tomorrow's called for 2 mile wu/cd with 12 x 90 seconds @ 5k pace off 1 minute recovery. As I was heading to London today and wouldn't be back till late tomorrow night I decided to do tomorrow's planned session today. Was told before if doing time sessions on a track to change it to distance so I decided to do 12 x 400 metres off 1 minute and see how it felt.

Last couple of sessions haven't exactly been confidence inspiring and I wasn't looking forward to this at all. Body still a bit creaky so I took a 4 mile slow warm up before hitting the track in Dangan. Was a but surprised with this, as it didn't feel too bad, I wasn't Mary Poppins'ing it along but it wasn't a massive struggle either! I thought the short recoveries would kill me and I kept waiting to blow up but it didn't happen and I even did an AMK on the last rep :)

Happy with that, not Usain Bolt happy where I'm gonna party all night with a load of young wans in London, but happy enough that I might have a burger tonight!

    9 miles.

    Reps:

    1.28
    1.27
    1.27
    1.26
    1.26
    1.27
    1.27
    1.27
    1.26
    1.28
    1.27
    1.19

Got to the hotel in Paddington and was a bit stiff so I decided to get 3 miles recovery in, followed by some auld man creaky stretches.

    12 miles for the day.

    Things are looking up, Bogger!
That's a few solid sessions recently. Particularly impressed with the tight splits on the 400s. Always a sign of good control.
Tbh I thought you were being a tad ambitious with a sub three attempt this winter but I'm a bit more convinced now.
I reckon you'd do it no bother if you had a half normal lifestyle but sure you're sick of hearing that.
Good weight loss too. I read the yanks reckon every pound is worth 2 seconds per mile, 2 stone should have you down to about 2:50 :D. I'm within 8 pounds of the sub three myself.

Fri & Sat: plan called for easy miles both days. Got nowt done either day due to travelling over and back to the Stoke game. During the match warm up my young lad said to his buddy, did Shay Given just do a "dab", hadn't a clue what that was. "What the hell's a dab?" says I, looking to see if he was doing a "Paula Rathcliffe" behind the away dugout :) Ended up having to google it, I might try it crossing the finish line in SS! Asked my 6 year old at breakfast on Sunday, what a dab was and without further prompting he proceeded to show me! The yooth of today, feck sake I'm a dinosaur!!

Sun: plan called for 18 mile LR. This would be my longest run in over 6 months and with all the recent niggles I was dreading the thought of it. Between daughter having a training session with Galway GA development team in Tuam, a boys match in Oughterard and a kids party there was no daylight left to get this done. Left with two unappealing options, 18 miles with head torch over Seanadh Pheistin or drive into civilisation to run under the towns electric! Decided on the latter and drove into town, parked up near Barna church and ran over the Quincentennial bridge, towards the RTC and back.

Felt like absolute sh1te starting off, I was oozing noxious fumes from every pore and orifice, I'd eaten so much crap and junk over the weekend. On a drinking abuse equivalent scale of 1 to 10, I'd say I was off the charts, Oliver Reed style. :) Very very windy out there tonight but I could still smell myself at mile 15!

I got to mile 9 at an average pace of 8.20 and finished the 18 @ 8.14. Probably would have added another two miles to make the 20 as I was comfortable enough except for my knee that was giving me gyp so I left it at the 18.

60.6 miles for the week, not to bad considering I'd two unscheduled rest days.
