There's a new Saint in town

Old thread, but deserves an update, since it's now as official as it gets: Mother Teresa has been canonised as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. The BBC article mentions some of the criticisms down the page, while the Irish Times article is, as expected, more of a hagiography.

MOD - I've opened a new thread and moved across the latest posts, let's leave that zombie thread back in zombieland.

Government resting upon the will and universal suffrage of the people has no anchorage except in the people's intelligence.

Haven't read through all the articles, but mother teresa was a fraud, embezzled money, stayed in 5 star hotels, now the hypocrites in Rome want to make her a saint, or have actually, idiots.

Quite appropriate so that she be made a patron saint of the Catholic Church!

And it just took 3 posts for the Catholic bashing to start.

Rita Ora is a better singer than I thought she was. She was singing at the concert for the canonisation of Mother Teresa, as she is from Albania too.

Logical progression from the subject matter of the thread.

Of course the Catholic Church know little about logic. Oops!

    Apologies, Father.

Oh there's no need to apologize, you can say whatever you like and nobody will bat an eyelid.

Say the same things about any other religion and it would be a different story.

Apparently she wasn't even a mother, at all.

Was Mother Teresa not so saintly after all? Researchers spark controversy by claiming her care of the sick was 'dubious' and handling of cash 'suspicious'

Ah come on! All religions are open to criticism and ridicule! Let's not conflate criticism of the belief (Christianty/Islam) with the people (Catholics, Muslims).

Listen Galwayguy, I'm just being honest, I'm not bashing a religion, just a corrupt money grabbing woman who is far from a saint, I was born a Catholic, I believe in God, I just don't believe in religion, and the roman church is one of the most corrupt and evil in my view.

Islam is a load of barbaric ****e and the theocratic regimes that push it are orders of magnitude more disgusting than the modern Catholic church.

Catholicism is more relevant to us here because it was the dominant religion and their atrocities were perpetrated against us.
The problem of Islam is a problem for the world but it's not really a problem in Ireland.

So there's no hypocrisy. One is simply more relevant to us than the other.

And, as you will be able to tell by this post being here and me not getting carded, there's no issue, regarding Islam, in calling a spade a spade on this forum (touch wood).

I heard some waffle on the radio that there was some concern about 1 of Mother Teresa's "miracles" where they weren't sure whether a tumour had gone into remission because of her blessing or, y'know, the medicine she was taking for it.

    ****ing gob****es.

Not an expert on the requirements for being a saint, but if your miracles (I have none at the moment, but who knows) are subsequently proven to be explainable by science, and so no longer be miracles, is your sainthood revoked ?

No because everyone is a saint anyway, its just the church recognising them. Or something.

"Mother" Teresa's homes for the dying were/are filthy, squalid places where needles are reused until blunt and the patients are forbidden visitors. Millions have been donated but precious little found its way toward alleviating suffering. Teresa also refused to return a donation that was shown to have come from people who were scammed out of their savings.

You can be sure the Irish nuns taught the bitch well...

Maybe. But she literally performed miracles.

I wonder will people in 100's of 1000s of years down the line have wars over which was better Marvel or DC ??

Because to me anyway that's what the bible quaran and all these things are ....comic books of the dark ages , people pulling off miracles and such its just some religions have used people's naivety to try and control the world through robbing people, paedophilia , celebrating suffering and taking advantage of peoples goodwill through charities and stuff

Anyone who still believes in all this rubbish needs a good hard look at themselves. I understand people need something to believe in and all that but people like Mother Teresa are not people to look up to ...Not even ****ing close

    Grand job.

Now what about this new saint?

Personally I never had any time for her but her canonisation has no impact on me or my beliefs, so no harm no foul.

In addition to this, who validates, for want of a better word, the miracles?

She cured Monica Besra's tumour overnight, when a beam of light came from a picture of Mother Teresa, and she held a picture of MT over her tumour.

And cured Macilio Haddad Andrino of multiple brain absesses after his wife prayed to MT. She interceded and cured him overnight and he came out of his coma.

These facts are documented and readily available.

Absolutely. The curing of one cancer patient who was receiving medical treatment anyway totally makes up for the thousands of people who died untimely deaths in agony over the years

Oh FFS. Maybe the picture should be the saint.

Its a very in depth and rigorous process. In MT's case, there are 113 witnesses attesting to the miracles, and evidence amounting to 35,000 pages which were then presented to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
    So very clear cut.

Lol at you attempting to pass off a curative magical beam of light coming out of a picture as an undeniable "fact".
