That god awful building next to the screen cinema could go. Such awful architecture.

I've got a bit of good news for ya so - the whole block around the Screen is going to be redeveloped in the near future.

He's not an atheist, he professes to worship the old Norse gods or some such.

Nay, I'm not an idiot. Well, not that much of a one anyway.

You'd have to be a pyromaniac to engage in activity like that. Happens in some parts of the world. Don't want to emulate them.

Nay - I would likely be in one and that would be the one day I'm not wearing my asbestos suit.

I have just looked through the thread, and there is not one instance of anyone wanting to burn a church. Not one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,633 ✭✭✭✭Widdershins

Tbh i find this thread quite disturbing. I've been lucky enough to grow up and live in a parish where the bond between community and church was always pretty strong. We were/are also blessed with priests who cared a lot for us and did a lot for the area. Alas, this is after hours. ....where its seemingly acceptable to mock those of faith.

It IS disturbing. What if some ape tries something like this and the fire spreads and kills people, or a fireman loses his life?
I never call for threads to be locked but I think this one should have been locked at the start.

Well the question is fairly vague. Church Burning Yay or Nay. Anticlericalism and religious violence has happened throughout history spontaneously. Mostly associated with deep hate of religion. Nothing wrong with a discussion on it and their was no incitement. Some debates on this forum do verge on inciting hatred. I don't feel this one does.

I just kind of feel bad for anyone who is still religious. It's outdated silliness.

It's like people who still buy and watch stuff on VHS. I don't think i should have a right to wreck their VCR but i feel sorry for how crap their brains are that they think they are normal.

So you get to decide what's normal? Because they do not act or believe what you do?

They believe in God so their brains are crap???

    Grow up.

    Well, yeah.

There's no proof, at all. As in, in the history of humanity no proof of any religion being a real thing has emerged.

You'd want to be all sorts of messed up in the head to put any stock in any of that nonsense.

You should be telling religious people to grow up. This is real life, not fairy story ****.

I wonder if I started thread, should we burn down asylum centres, traveller sites, mosques it be closed pretty quick. Wonder why this was locked and opened again. Must have checked the rule book, Christianity okay to poll about burning down churches, etc. Other faiths or ethnic groups, protected species.

OP all your suggestion would do is divide Irish society.

It wouldn't divide Irish society. It would probably unite most in abhorrence of the idea, and separate the tiny minority of loons who think it appropriate.

No proof it's not real either.

What you call nonesne others call faith or part of their culture.

It's not your place to tell religious people to grow up. Your posts smell of someone who is in need of some growing up.

Lad, you sound to me like a "reverse Bible basher". The type that tries to ram their disbelief down peoples throats. I've met a few in me time. If you don't believe, well bully for you, but don't look down yer smug nose at those that do.

And the ironical thing is that is seems fine to most young folk to mock and offer distain to churches and people who go to mass. But one mention of a mosque in the same tone will have the same people up in arms ranting about freedoms, and would have this thread locked down.
I do here them in me local.

Threads like this only serve to remind one how many spotty teenagers there are on boards.. ( both physically and metaphorically)

Sure, and you're the grand adult in the room, now, aren't you.

Perhaps more a grown adult ( I assume 'grown' rather than 'grand' is the word you are grasping for?) than some here who would seem to revel at the thought of wanton destruction for the sake of some form of perceived retribution for acts and actions that happened long before they were born in most cases , and wilfully neglecting the good represented by the buildings and institutions they wish to destroy, as well as the importance of said buildings to many many people in this country- both religious and otherwise? That sort of grand adult??

Or do you mean 'grand' like a piano?

BTW.. I think anyone who genuinely believes in any form of god should be in a mental institution. But I don't advocate burning their houses down.. nor do I start threads musing about the rights or wrongs of doing the same.

I mean "grand" as in "grandiose".

How is this thread not removed?

Someone asking is it okay to burn churches or not?

    Low point for the forum

    Haha!

So now it is grandiose to label those who would discuss pointless violence and vandalism as childish?

You need to buy a dictionary.

Your forgetting, its okay to burn churches, ridicule Catholics, the motto of AH as of late. If the title was changed to Mosque, halting site, synagogue, id bet you it be closed down very quickly. Me thinks the feedback forum about mod bias is alive and well!

Yes, in fact it is pompous to walk into a thread and call everyone a bunch of adolescents. If you possess a dictionary I suggest you read it. Anyway I'm not going to further feed your sense of self-importance; I'm going to bed.

I think you are wrong on one point.. I think if it was a thread about burning synagogues there would be no issue from the mods either..

Pompous and grandiose to criticise.. but burning churches is ok?

I have to admire your super fast editing. Please come back tomorrow and feed my sense of self importance. It'll be really rather hungry by then. It gets tetchy when its hungry.

If they were half the human beings as priests around the country with more work than ever keeping parishes alive in many regards to be ridiculed for acts he had nothing to do with.
While doing all this with a gentle and warming smile. Let them go and tell these priests to their face what they say on here.

Anyone that thinks destruction of anyone's place of worship should stop and consider if it is justifiable to destroy books, or libraries. To close schools or colleges that teach science (or at least the "wrong" science).
