A "Dyson Swarm"? Sounds like a race of Buglike Killer Alien Hoovers. I don't like the sounds of that

    Sounds interesting.
Given the size of the universe there must be life somewhere. Even if we were to find some old signal from some ancient civilisation.

These kind of stories turn up from time to time, and media exaggerate things. It is most probably not Aliens.

Now I'm no Brian Cox... but I'm not sure you're completely 100% accurate with your maths there. Maybe tweak it a tad by adding...what...a touch under 94 years to that 35 days?

Ahh **** that.188 years to get a response!

Sounds like, from reading the story, that they haven't got a lot to go on. A quote from a guy who no doubt is extremely keen on making sure people pay attention to his research and then a few paragraphs of how it's all very, very unlikely really (interesting how they say that more than likely this is a no-go, according to the experts - which makes the first guy what, exactly?) And then to wrap it all up a bit of summation of the concept of the energy harnessing powers of advanced civilizations.

Diverting and higher than usual quality click-bait.

Personally I think if the signal was proven to be artificial, it would be one of the biggest events in modern human history.

Surely, if the signal was proven to be artifical, it would be the biggest event in human history. Aliens yo.

hi folks, i love the way they knew for months at SETI yet decided not to tell us in case of panic lol...no one cares except us 10 people on boards.

seriously though we need to ignore this signal and develop our technology for a 1,000 years then answer...

Cant remember where I read this before, but there was a nice short story about humans broadcasting into space trying to make contact with alien races. Finally we receive a signal back, eventually translated, it simply said "be quiet, or they will hear you....."

I think we should offer friendship to the Aliens.
Ask them to lower their shields to allow an ambassadorial ship
    through to discuss peace terms.
When they drop their shields .... Hit them with everything we've got.

If we can hit that bull's-eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Check mate!

What about Schrodinger's universe theory, so it could be a case of both...

The sad part about all this is if it is aliens, they've reached out into true vastness of the universe in the hope of finding intelligent life but instead found us.

I agree and I'd imagine intelligent life will go out their way to avoid such a primitive & backward planet likes ours. Perhaps if we can survive another Millennia and if we have evolved beyond our wars of greed and a society based on self interest. Maybe then intelligent life might find us worthy of contact. But when you look at the two corrupt clowns currently running for the US presidential election, you can't help but feel that the prospect of humanity surviving that long is looking pretty remote.

What do you do if you come across a spaceman?

    Park the carman.

    Even more terrifying!

Give me a few days off work and I go into full tinfoil hat mode on this and similar subjects. It's fascinating.

Unless the scary thing is, that we are the most intelligent life out there. Say we are thousands of years, if not a millions ahead Of The next alien race.
