They didn't really do a time jump, they just kept it in "real time". If there's nearly 2 years between S2 and S3 like there was between S1 and S2 then I assume it'll be the same again. I think they mentioned it was about 18 months since Tommy had been caught.

I don't think they could just pick up where they left off. It just makes it a little bit harder to believe that all this stuff is happening to Catherine if it's all happening in the space of a few weeks.

I also wondered how Frances managed to get a job in the school using her sisters identity. Would the police background check not have shown she was dead? Or do they literally just search their data base for mentions of the name?

Pretty sure their is ID checks now for those sort of jobs and it was pointed out the principle of the school was quite sharp as well, so it couldn't have been a case of those in charge not "been arsed to check".

Its also a bloody tough job, I don't believe an amateur could do it no matter how close she was to any teacher in real life.

I wouldn't have bothered with the swerve of her stealing an identity whatsoever, just a twist that was unneeded unfortunately. I would have found it believable if it was a lonely teacher that struggled for love no matter how talented she was at her job and who clearly seen the best in everyone would have fallen for Tommy.

Overall a good series though, the ending was very good, no matter what Ryan does even if its good, he will always be a reminder of the murder of her daughter and the monster that created him, as was the son of Allison.

The Variety article anyway mentions they had trouble with some of the accents. I never did myself and I'd love to see how they'd cope with a show with some good Irish midland accents in it, which I find can be much more difficult.

There's an Irish film called The Runway which had a few Traveler characters in it and it's got subtitles on it for when they're speaking. Not much difference in a Midlands accent ;)

They didnt really tie up the storyline about the traffic'd girl and the gangsters

Otherwise, top notch, really expanded on the promise of series 1

    I wondered about that.

It was either a red herring used to shed a little light on a serious situation that goes on in a lot of places these days or that AND they were setting it up for a third series. I can't see it going full on gangsters and shoot outs and what not but they may come to the fore a bit more.

Bafta TV nominations are out and Happy Valley didn't get a single nomination!

I can only assume it missed the cut off point because this is a f**king travesty!

I'm sure they would have known when planning the air dates what the BAFTA dates were. Lancashire was shafted the last time too. She was nominated but some randomer won it. River only got 1 nomination too, which is poor. That stupid Doctor Foster crap got a few.

I see that here One ex corrie star over another!

I see Sheridan Smith is up again, it's usually her or Olivia Colman who've recently got 2 each, although i assume it's too late as well for Colman?
Funnily enough it was almost too late for Smith as she was stuck in traffic & landed an hour later afaik

To be fair Olivia Coleman is brilliant in everything she does, even Drunk History. Sheridan Smith is a weird one though, they do seem to love her.

She has very good in Broadchurch, as i only knew her 1st in Peep Show.

Sheridan Smith was in a comedy as well, i only seen once before she went to do Chicago on stage, but i've heard more on her personal life than stage, but i heard that she's doing a drama on Shannon Mathews disappearance soon.

Great show. I honestly thought Alison was Darryl's wife not Mother. She looked very young.

This dam show,I find myself watching the programme again not including the original on the nights that it is repeated so I know what is going to happen, but I still watch it.

I kind of understand why the det, John, might be pushed to do what he did,but thats the risk you take when you have an extra marital affair. Of course she must have been a psycho to blackmail him,but who knows, she might have did so even he wasn't married. Should he not have seen the signs? When she drugged him for example?

Another thing, "the teacher" was alone with the young lad for alot of the time.....really? safeguarding children and all that?

I binged on this over the weekend. I missed it first time round on BBC, started watching Series 2 on RTE - couldnt wait to see what happened next & ended up watching all 4 remaining episodes yesterday. I was speaking with a pronounced Yorkshire accent when I finally finished. :-)

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

I realise this was over months ago but for whatever reason when series two was on BBC my UPC box recorded all but the last episode. Raging. So I recorded the whole lot on RTE and only caught up to the final episode this week. What a final episode! So much drama and I was on the edge of my seat as I had been the first time watching all of the other episodes. I'd agree that they left it somewhat open for another series, especially with
the looks she was giving the young fella at the end, is she wondering will he turn out like his daddy dearest in future and comparing herself to Alison (farmer) and what she felt she had to do to her son?!

Sarah Lancashire is just an amazing actor, I think she's fantastic.

    Agree Sarah Lancashire is fantastic.
In case anyone interested series 1 is now Netflix.

Also not the same but Line Of Duty also on Netflix.

Sally Wainwright - the writer - is on the latest episode of Adam Buxton's podcast. Well worth a listen if you're a fan of Happy Valley

Acclaimed police drama Happy Valley will return for a third series, writer Sally Wainwright confirmed today.

Wainwright said that the series – which stars Sarah Lancashire as Sergeant Catherine Cawood – will return for a third run, but not immediately.

Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Wainwright was asked by her interviewer, former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, if her drama would come back following months of speculation among fans over its future.

She said: “It will happen but it will be a little while. I have got some good ideas.”

Up until now Wainwright had declined to confirm whether there would be a third series, saying that she needed to work out where the story would go next.

In the meantime, she's got plenty to keep her busy, eschewing the bleak tone of Happy Valley to work on an idea for a musical for television, although she declined to reveal any more details:

“It’s on the way. It’s an idea I have got for the screen that I am hoping to get away."
