You have to get one of your guys to fight it, for each pokemon you beat you get prestige for the gym.

So if I take a gym for Mystic and put my Pokemon in. Then other Mystic players come along and fight my Pokemon and win and then they get to put a new one in?

You also get extra prestige for beating them with a pokemon whose CP is lower than the one you are facing.
500 prestige if your Pokemon has a lower CP, 1000 prestige if your Pokemon's CP is less than half and so on.

So your Pokemon can increase in strength or CP if you win in gyms?
No. Only powering and evolving up can affect CP.

So long as they raise the prestige enough to increase the level of the gym.

How do you train it up though? Is it by other teams trying to take it and failing?

Go to a gym that's owned by your team and click on the bottom right button. You can then fight that gym with a single pokemon only and the more pokemon you beat, the higher the gym will rank up.

Ah that makes sense. I took two of the four gyms here yesterday and just put 600CP Pokes into them and was surprised to see them still there this morning but both gyms had been ranked to 6 and 7 each.

With how long the game is out here i doubt anyone can be above level 30 legitimately , maybe im wrong but seems unlikely

Tend to agree. I'm finding it hard to believe that someone is level 31 and has several 2500+ CP Dragonites available, like some of the people I've seen frequently around the city center (not naming names.)

I'm assuming that as time goes on Pokeniantendo will get better at banning cheaters and as the game becomes less of a "fad" it'll become less attractive to dumbasses running bots.

Finally caught a wild Scyther today just outside my work this morning.

Only 333CP but was happy to find one! Its usually Jinx who spawns outside and i'm sick of her haha

Yeah - Dublin's where I'm based, and you're totally right. On the other hand, Team Instinct (in the shape of me and two others) took a gym in suburbia (not saying where ;) ) at going-home-time last night which is still ours this morning! I wonder how long it'll last - I've this theory that we need to take gyms in groups. Just make them a pain for the other teams to gank with 5 or 6 reasonably high level pokemon and and they'll last a wee bit longer.

(Disclaimer - maybe not in Dublin City Center. It's crazy here.)

I raised a little rural town's gym prestige enough to put my Lapras into it before I went on holidays and was able to collect coins from that for a whole 8 days straight. He was second weakest in the gym when I left it, too.

There are definitely cheating, people like "pokayman" and stuff around the city, report them. You see them with pokemon in gyms all over the city, and outside it.

Don't go anywhere near that. You could easily get perma banned in the future.

Agreed. It's exciting though!! I haven't gotten anywhere near these pokemon and it's attractive to check it out. But it takes away from the walking about and catching them all, whilst walking about!!!

    Yes.

You can actually find Pokemon with the sighting system. It isn't broken anymore not that you'd know because Niantic are incapable of saying anything.

I agree with this statement. It's better than the three footprint method, for me.

Thats the trick. Your fellow team members were easily able to beat 600CP pokemon which meant the gym increased quickly in prestige..... which increased the size, so more space for more pokemon.

As a group of 3-4 players, take a gym. Put a low CP mon intially.....train it to level 4 or more, pop 4 high CP mons in then move on to the next.

Unfortunately it is still broken. I regularly have pokemon appear on the screen that aren't showing on nearby.

Have you updated to the latest version, i.e. the one where it is now called Sightings?

I tracked down a Growlithe in Merrion Square yesterday morning using the method. It literally is walk in a straight line. Once the image goes, turn around and walk the other way until it pops back up. Then go either left or right from the point it reappears. If it disappears do a 180 and walk on and it will turn up. Beleedat.

Well that method works for me!!!!

Across the road from Beat FM and Sam McCauleys in Waterford, just at the Solas centre seems to be a regular Voltorb spot for anyone in the area.

It works well enough but still doesn't account for mons on private property or inaccessible directly. I was hunting down an Arbok earlier for ages with no luck. Scanned for it and it was about 100m away as the crow flies, through a company's land and over a fence but more than a kilometre by public road.

I found a few medium rare ones on that Street though. Grimer, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Sandshrew.

Does anyone know if eggs are location dependent? I made a point of hatching all my 2km eggs in the last 24 hours an they were all spearow except for one, a Magikarp which I think I picked up in Dublin. Might be nothing in it.

I caught a Pikachu on Foley St in Dublin one morning, but I pass there regularly at the same time and it has only appeared once

Level 21 and "only" 2 10k eggs so far but both were Kabuto allowing me to evolve it so I'm not complaining

Has anyone ever seen or caught a wild Chansey? I never see it mentioned

Yes, caught one before all the changes to the spawns and nests which seemed to remove that particular point altogether. I had only found it the day before the changes.

Got a Chansey from a 10k egg the other day, I was disgusted.

Why? It's pretty rare and most 10k eggs hatch the ultra common Eevie.

I'd love a Chansey! I remember kicking the crap out of Chansey in Smash Bros. when she came to provide power-ups. Ah, them were the days!! :D

How does the method work? You keep going until the Poke drops off the Sightings list then keep going in a circle to find the outside spawn radius?

Last 10k egg I got a nearly 1k CP Electabuzz. This time a 300CP Chansey. I was hoping for something more cool/powerful. I'd even prefer a high CP eevee, eevee hasn't been common for me and I could at least have evolved it into something cool.
