Will drop right down to 8th after round 4, just not enough difficulty in his dives to challenge for the podium. If he can add a couple of high difficulty dives to his armoury he could challenge in future.

Water sports lads, that's where the medals are.

I spoke too soon. Its happened again! Stick with the diving.

The German is in the frame this time

Down to 8th after four dives. The low tariff dives are killing him. The 3.0 difficulty dive in the fourth round which only scored a 69 really set him back. Hopefully he can pick up a couple of places with his last two dives as he usually finishes well with his higher tariff dives.

Someone on the radio earlier as I was driving home (not blotto!) said he saves his most difficult dives for last?

The German scores 98 with a 3.8 tariff dive in the fifth round and Dingley up next does another 3.0 dive and only scores 60.

The 3.0 in Round 4 has killed him though, none of the medal contenders are even attempting 3.0 dives.

Another 3.0 in Round 5 and a poor dive. He's gone. Good effort overall though.

Yeah, if you want to be in the mix for medals you need to be picking tougher dives than he has.

Scoring well on the early technical dives, still a fine performance.

Hope Team GB don't try and poach him back now.

Another cop out in the velodrome. Nobody disqualified that time either. Third time lucky.

    Groundhog day

They should just send the gurney man home and let them get on with it.

Should be 3 riders gone at least.

The guy on the derny is being taken out the back and given a sound thrashing.

I like to see Britain do well. I'm pleased for them. I really am.

But could they let the rest of us win a few medals here and there? It's getting monotonous.

    Amazing from Jason Kenny

They might give us some of their old bikes when we build our velodrome. Still be better than anything the rest of the world is using

8th after round 5. Top 3 well clear of the rest, another gold coming up for China.

Yes they've pretty much turned track cycling into Formula 1 at this stage. Engineering more important than natural ability.

don't know if you caught one of Hoys comments the other day when Claire Balding asked him what Laura Trott was putting on her hands before a race.

"Liquid chalk we get made up. There's too much weight and drag from gloves"

    Incredible attention to detail

Decent final effort, will finish about 9th. He's two dives away from being a serious challenger and is young enough to have another go.

Supposing he upped his game and got good enough to make the GB team, could he switch back again?

Yeah, and AFAIK he did move over to Ireland, so maybe with another few years here it will sit a bit easier with us if he does win a medal. Best of luck to him regardless. I heard him being interviewed on Newstalk a couple of weeks ago and he seems like an affable bloke.

I don't believe so, I think you can only change once.

Is that actually Tom Daley commentating???

There was a fella commentating in the early rounds who sounded exactly like him, but one of the nights Tom was diving so I'm assuming it wasn't!

But tonight's commentator REALLY sounds like him!

Judging by the comments on the RTE website earlier, he was British national champion a number of times but didn't get selected international competitions. So whatever was preventing GB from selecting him, it doesn't seem to have been an issue with talent.

If he wants to live here and get some kids involved in the sport then best of luck to him

Dingley finishes 8th in the end.

In fairness, if it was due to having to choose between Laugher and Dingley, Laugher is the much better diver.

The Brits have gold medals in 11 different sports, the USA only in eight.

    Right. Now what?

Someone tell me what I should watch!

there was another GB diver in the prelims last night who didn't qualify for the semi finals ... so not just one per country

Anyway, don't know how many of you were watching on RTE, they mention the only previous Irish Olympic diver - Eddie Heron in 1932 - couldn't swim!

You'd have thought that would be a pre-requisite :pac:

BBC4 anchorman getting a bit carried away with himself there, awarding GB a gold medal in the women's 470 sailing when the medal race isn't till tomorrow :D

Just caught a bit of it - he spoke very well - gave great credit to the support team in Dublin. Also expressed gratitude at Ireland investing in him and giving him the opportunity to compete in the Olympics. Nice to hear.
