I know nothing about boxing but that's not about to stop me calling total bull**** on this...

This system is so stupid. Even if the Russian snuck the first round, Conlan beat the snot out of him in the second and yet somehow they're even.

    Welp.

Time to find a different sport to care about I think.

Conlon's interview was something special. Completely called it out as he sees it. Condemned the authorities as cheats and corrupt. Said everyone knows they're a corrupt organisation.

I believe the Russian who won the heavyweight title was booed by the arena when collecting his medal and his own coach came out and said the result was completely unfair. He was cut and on the back foot throughout the fight but won on all 3 cards for all 3 rounds! The Russian's own coach came out afterwards with the following:

"What can I say, we all saw who won the fight. I am always for fair judging and I want the work of coaches and boxers to be assessed fairly... such situations in the boxing ring do not present out sport in a good light.

"Unfortunately, this is not the only such fight in the Olympics, it has rather become a tendency. Our boxer came out to fight and wanted to win, and it is not his fault that his arm was raised. But, unfortunately for boxing fans, we got what we got."

  • The heavyweight fight last night had some similarities

    (including a certain Referee)

i was delighted that Michael came out firing as he did....

heartbroken for the kid who gave up 4 years of his life for that sh!te,... i cant believe im saying this but hopefully professional boxing is LESS CORRUPT than amateur boxing !

I feel the only thing that'll come close to fixing this shambles would be the exclusion of the sport from future olympics until they can put in place a system to prevent abuse like this.

Inverdale was on BBC clarifying that Conlan's opinions were his own and not the BBC' so I don't know did he say something else on there or are they next to RTE in the media section and just showed the same interview.

Came over to BBC after and said much the same thing (with less cursing). Inverdale kept trying to move the mic away. Which, considering the **** Inverdale comes out with, is a bit rich when Conlan is perfectly right.

This sailing race looks like they're barely moving.

Commentators assure us Murphy is in the medals at the moment.

Yer man doing the commentary was gas. "THEY'LL WRITE POEMS ABOUT HER, TRANSLATE THEM INTO IRISH AND TEACH THEM FOR THE LEAVING CERT!"

Between that, "Murphy Magic" and "Rio Redemption" he did the papers work for them.

I wonder who Vlad follows on Twitter?

Shocking decision in the boxing and I'd love to see something constructive done to raise a serious stink. But giving the judges the finger and blasting people on twitter are not going to rally anyone to the cause.

Not sure how I feel about this whole thing. Conlan's reaction initially strikes me as utterly classes.

Have no clue about the track cycling, but that was very tense with whether Kenny would be DQ.

Kenny was ahead of the others. The question was whether he overtook the Durney bike before it left the track. It wasn't totally obvious so the judges seem to have given him the benefit of the doubt. I thought he was a wee bit lucky myself. But you are talking fractions of a second.

Ah I don't blame him. I'd have no class whatsoever in that scenario.

So how juiced up is Bolt? The circumstantial evidence seems to be building up - of the 30 of the fastest times in the 100m 21 of the racers have tested positive for drugs and the other 9 times are Bolt, his coach has had dodgy dealings in the past, former juice doctors have said that all the sprinters are juiced, Jamaica have been accused of being a bit lacks on testing etc. At the same time, you have to wonder if it matters because if they're all juiced to the gills and he is still winning, does he have an advantage? Personally, I'd like to believe he runs clean.

Fun fact about the commentator, he's Ger Owen's three times Olympian, absolute elite sailor, who partly ended his career getting a tag rugby injury playing a casual game in ucd. Quality guy.

It seems like something that's been building for a while and combine that with heat of the moment I can kind of understand his anger. I don't think it would matter if he'd been more reserved in his anger, IABA don't seem to care either way.
