Just looking at first reviews on steam, lots of people having lots of crashes, and those that do get into the game are having terrible performance issues..

il think il wait for a price drop, or when some decent dlc comes out for it

Holy shit I think it's locked to 30fps, and I can't get any setting changes to apply. FOV looks like I'm staring down the length of a tube.

EDIT: It's completely defective. Most of the sliders in the graphics menu are completely unresponsive. I can't change resolution, windowed mode, vsync, max fps...anything. The FOV and gamma sliders move but I can't make the changes save, and they're back where they were after exiting. Game also dies 100% of the time if I alt/tab.

From reading on steam it seems you have to hold the mouse buttons in the menu and it applies the changes. Hope that makes sense !

Haven't bought this yet but it seems the FOV can be changed via a config file, see here:

    oh
    my
    god

Ok, well, that worked, but what an utterly absurd design decision. Just to be clear: if you click on an option in the way you click on anything else on a PC, the game registers the click with a sound effect and an animation flash, but nothing actually happens unless you click and hold until it takes effect. Good Lord.

EDIT: Also I reappeared on a new planet after my first crash so I feel like I've been robbed of my destiny. It was an ice planet with a glowing red cave nearby - the new one is far less tantalising :(

steam reviews are hammering it down because of performance issues :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

im still kinda tempted to buy it cause im a sad git with nothing to do on a friday night but around on a spino in ark eating crap.

Had a look at a few vids, man that framerate hitching is bad. Especially in the ship. If the steam reviews are not just people getting there knickers in a twist and are accurate the performance seems to be pretty bad accross a range of systems.

Running fine for me an hour in and plan to stay on this planet for a bit. Its intriguing.

I read on twitter before i came home "borderless and cap FPS at 90 with Vsync off". Game runs perfect 70 fps 1080p with everything on high. Inventory system needs work tho.

I seen 4000 negative reviews at 7pm, what a bunch of whiney cnuts. Seems Steam reviews are the new method for the idiotic underbelly to voice their issues with a game.

People with 0.1hrs of game play down voting the game while trying to be comedians, steam reviews are not what they used to be.....:(

Yeah think it's a pretty good port so far, it stutters a bit mostly when near the ground in the ship but given the amount of stuff it's generating at a time that it runs anywhere near as well as it does is impressive. Certainly more room for optimisation but delighted I waited to get it over the PS4 version as this in undoubtedly the superior version by a long distance.

Have said more over in the main thread but finding the game a pleasure to play so far. The flaws are there but IMO not as glaring or disruptive as has been suggested. In terms of the sense of adventure and exploration they've got it dead on and I've been thoroughly enjoying casually exploring the environments, learning alien languages and managing to survive my first space battle :)

I havent left the 1st planet :D I flying my ship all over it to check **** out, been at this a while now.

I dont think this is or any game nowadays is a port, it is just optimised for a console then released on PC. We the master race we can figure out how to run it well.

Will still be keeling an eye on the game.

Well, after initial teething problems with the GUI I appear to have spent all night playing it and am really enjoying myself. The trick to not letting the inventory get too annoying is to basically sell almost everything every chance you get. You'll find more. Keep some plutonium and thalium for power/fuel and you'll be fine.

My first few planets were ok, largely similar. Then I found a planet that glows red all the time, where the sentinels are super hostile, and the underground caverns are full of mysterious and valuable alien orbs...

Edit: Oh and performance is fine on a 1070. Tiny bit of stutter now and then but its rare enough; smooth otherwise.

I'm playing it at 1080p on my 970, and beyond some stutter in the opening moments, it's ran very well for me, so I'm pleasantly surprised!

Spent the guts of 3 hours just exploring the planet I started out on, though it took me about an hour to make the 15 minute trip to a monument because I was exploring scenic that came up on or near the route, including a large cave system!

picked this up this afternoon. Spent a solid few hours at it. Very pleased with it so far. I'm happy with how its running, there were some minor popups a few times but nothing that took away from the game for me. I have a 980ti so that probably helped a little bit.

My only real gripe was it started in windowed mode and I had to quit to apply full screen and as such started afresh on a new planet.

I think I've already come across a planet already discovered because I was given the option to report the planet's name as offensive or inappropriate.

I've found you can't alt tab out of the game and expect to be able to get back in. You have to kill it and restart.

That's my first problem with the game so far. Not a great start.

Hitting the play button again on steam or using task manager and select NMS and switch to... works for people after alt-tab

I am using borderless window so that sorted that out. Handy as well if I want to Google something about no mans sky.

Edit: I am using the GTX 1080 and playing at 1440p. I have locked the FPS to 90 in the menu settings. Seems to have solved the odd frame rate hitch that was happening every few minutes.

updating to the latest AMD drivers was a stupid thing to do, it was perfect now its not.

Thank god, thought it was just me.
AM 9 hours into it, and am enjoying it. I can see where the complaints about repetition and grind come from, but I'm enjoying the slow pace of it and just wandering around exploring/mining.
I could go the route of grinding to get millions to get a ship with a bigger hold, but I would rather do it naturally rather than rushing to get there.
The Atlas pass thing is annoying me as I don't want to leave my first system just yet. I did leave it to do the hyperdrive quest thingy, but hard a hard time finding out how to get back to the starting system, as the galactic map makes no sense to me.
As for the multiplayer aspect or lack thereof, I actually prefer it this way. I don't want to be wandering around and bump into someone else. If I wanted that I would play EVE.

Am glad I picked it up, would have been happier paying a little less for it. Hopefully the game will be patched with new functionality/improvements and the annoyances will go away.

Installed the experimental version and it runs perfect (it did previously until i installed latest AMD).

Use the code 3xperimental in Steam Beta game option.

Anyone having issues with being stuck on the credit screen. After the title, No Man's Sky disappears I'm just floating in space. No amount of bashing all the keys or holding down E works. No joy either with the beta experimental version.

    I have:
    • Wins 7
    • i7
    • 12GB RAM
    • GeForce GTX 560 Ti - drivers up to date
    • OpenGL 4.5
    • Over 1 TB of space.
In game I can't get into any menu. In fact I can't even quit the game, I have to use the windows button.

I'm pretty bummed I can't get to play the game.
