Terrorist attack averted in Canada

So the FBI warned the Canadians of a martyr video posted online and the Canadian police recognised the poster. They went to his home and found him leaving in a taxi. He detonated a small explosive before being shot dead. he had a second explosive device on him. Seems like they got him just in time.

He wasn't a refugee or an immigrant. His father was a Canadian soldier and he was born and bred in Canada. He wasn't from a Muslim background either. It appears he was simply an angry middle class young man looking for a direction in life and was brought into the world of radical Islam through the internet.

I think we can rule out dancing girls, fast cars, good music and an objective world view.

Read up on him, he was questioned back in 2014 when they saw he had been seen to be sympathising and commenting on ISIS-related content, he was pretty far down the rabbit hole in terms of supporting them. They had him marked in 2015 as someone who was a reasonable threat.

When he was released he had to meet conditions where he wasn't allowed to be near the a computer, a phone or use the internet until the end of August of this year. The tip-off was when he posted the video which was pretty much the sign that he was going to do something significant within the next few hours.

Despite the bail conditions and him and his lawyers proclaiming his innocence, he still went ahead planning an attack and constructed bombs.

Even terrorism sounds safe and under control in Canada. Go Canada!

Look I agree with you that Merkel undoubtedly has caused serious issues in her own country through the acceptance of hundreds of thousands of unvetted immigrants from a vastly different culture but to blame her for this event in Canada is illogical and grossly unfair.

    I obviously wasn't sarcastic enough.

    Rather inane, diversionary comments really.

Well that puts a bit of a different picture on things

Yeah, as if the thread is ever going to go any other way. A good debater gets their retaliation in first.

    Always one......

Taking an oppurtunity straight away to mock those who oppose Merkels clearly ridiculous immigration policies which no sane person would deem reasonable.

We need to ban taxis and middle class men immediately. Canada is such a dangerous country right now...You'd want to be mad to go there.

Am I doing the hysteria correctly?

There isn't actually any hysteria whatsoever on this thread comprising a post and 16 responses in over an hour - just a few witless comments attempting to parody a hysteria, which, like I said, is not actually there.

It seems it's more and more clear Islam itself is the problem.

Poe's Law is in full effect on After Hours, in fairness to the chap.

You think? You don't think that's correlation as opposed to causation? How do you explain the millions upon millions of muslims who don't commit terrorist attacks? There's no doubt that Islam is being used as a tool to radicalise young people but surely the problem is the people using it like that?

I think every one has forgotten their sarcasm meters this morning. Can everybody please go back home and pick them up before returning to After Hours?

    Thank you.

I didn't miss sarcasm, just spotted deflection. :)

A thread was started about a foiled extremist attack and a few comments were thrown out as if people were foaming at the mouth in rage about it... when nobody was!

I think that's the point. Because the guy was white and middle class, there's no hysteria.

    No hypocrisy either

Nah I just saw a few funny comments that were very tongue in cheek. No perceived barbs from my point of view anyway. :)

I thought you got a bit lost in the store? It's Ireland's biggest lingerie section I understand...

Canada needs to buy the person who found that video a pint.

    No Islam is the problem.
The Koran contains hateful messages that can be used by people looking to radicalise others.
Just like the Bible has sections that can be used to justify hate against homosexuals.
Religion is the last acceptable ideology where hate is tolerated.

    Look at it another way.
There are millions upon millions of racists that don't commit racist attacks, does that mean racism is OK. No it doesn't.
Most people are peaceful, but there's a minority who will grab hold of any hateful ideology and turn violent.

I wonder, had he not uploaded the video would he have successfully being able to carry out the bombing?
