The flirting from the US mixed doubles pair is a tad cringey!! ha! Don't blame him though!

Id say there would be mighty craic to be had if you were on the beer with the o'donovan brothers, paddy barnes and mick conlan :D

Until the drink takes over and a row kicks in, I'd say those two Nordies would be chippy type of lads:D

I don't want to end up being sick of the O' Donovan brothers. I fear someone in RTE is going to eventually make us all sick of them.

As big a fan as I am of Paddy and Mick, the 2 boys would ate them without salt as a starter before a massive feed of shteak and spuds.

Ah, they are a breath of fresh air compared to some of the competitors

But, yeah, you would swear RTE and Joe.ie have never seen people engaging in a bit of craic before!! We get it, they are funny!

ah, no she does, Ive seen her in interviews and she has a dry wit about her. She is extremely religious though, extremely, and it can get a tad overwhelming in her post fight interviews. Not that I am criticising her faith, its no doubt helped her be the talent she is

Hard not to snigger immaturely to all the references to "good rides" and "they'll be hoping to turn the screw here on this ride" during the cycling.

Why on earth are they using the computer screen on RTE for swimming? 'She needs to go here', *he points in a forward motion down the lane*. Yeah, we get it Sherlock.

Very interesting article about Anthony Ervin who is up tonight. 35 year old swimmer.

    http://http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/scott-fowler/article94902517.html

    The lads just mentioned him

    well worth a read

I think Andrew Bree just wanted to use the shiny tech so badly and is so much of a giant of man that nobody could refuse him.

I like Bree, my favourite RTE analysts thus far this week. Very passionate about the sport and informed

"and how about we get aiden power to stand next to you so you look like even more like a beast? Just don't pay him on the head because you'll break him and then we'll have no little fella for all the links for when Darragh is tired or Peter hasn't drank enough human blood to function."

I forget the name of the co-commentator on RTE's swimming coverage but he always sounds half jarred.

Larkin, Murphy, McEvoy, .............There is a lot of Jack Grealish types in the swimming world! They should be ours!

What the hell happened to Missy Franklin? Is she injured or something, dominated in 2012 at only 17 yet now when you'd expect her to be near her prime she won't win a medal outside of the relay or even make a final.

Can't deny phelps is a freak of nature, 22 gold medals! One of only 3 men to win the same event in 4 games.

Anchors and analysts should say, "I'm running out of opportunities to say that I'm running out of superlatives" when it comes to Phelps.

Be nice if they gave fourth place the bronze in the event of the tie for first.

I would have thought that anyone with a good interest in sport, not just cycling, would know Wiggins, Froome, Contador, Cavendish and indeed Sagan...

Much like they would know Federer, Djokovic, Murray. Or McIlroy, Speith and Day. Or Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo. And so on.

No way would they all be household names like the tennis players, footballers and golfers you've mentioned here. Wiggins, maybe Froome. That's it.

Yes, RTÉ will overegg the pudding and it won't be the lads' fault! Hope it doesn't happen.

Silver medallist Siobhán Marie O'Connor being the most obvious!

I know, I can't get over it! I thought she would be the one to beat but she's not even making the finals!

I guess it depends on the household.

I mean, in Ireland someone like Tommy Bowe or Henry Shefflin might be well known, whereas of course they could probably go unnoticed walking down the street in other countries. Plus we know golfers because we produce golfers. On the other hand, an Irish person may not recognise Shane Warne or Brian Lara because cricket doesn't have the same reach here.

But the Tour de France is up there with the biggest sporting events in the world, with over 10 million attending stages and a tv audience of billions. The top cyclists are on contracts worth millions per annum. It's pretty big in international sporting terms.

Shane Warne and Brian Lara could both walk unnoticed down the street in the UK as well.
