The first time the ball went into the Fiji half (apart from the kickoff) was when Fiji passed it back into it.
Strangely funny watching it on BBC.

I thought the final was meant to be 13 mins a half?

Most people are not cycling fans and definatly wouldn't know who Sagan or Contador are. Most people in the UK wouldn't know who Froome or Cavendish are either. Chris Hoy and Wiggins would be a only ones with significant exposure outside of cycling with Wiggins being the most known despite hiding for a couple of years.

Have to disagree there, about Froome especially. The lad has 3 Tour De France wins something only a handful of lads have ever done. Cavendish is arguably the greatest sprinter on a bike of all time and is slowly closing in on most Tour de France stage wins. In the last few years he went off the boil but for a period British road cycling was all about Cav. He had a fantastic Tour in July too.

Think 10 minutes is enough for GB

Some of the Fiji lads aren't even wearing gum shields. Zero f*cks given.

Won't dispute most of that, but ask someone in the street to name a TdF winner and unless you asked them right after the end of the tour it would be Wiggins that they name. Show them pictures of those people and the only one they will be able to name is Wiggins. Unless they have a passing interest in cycling they won't have a clue.

Wiggins has an unfair advantage as nobody else could have those hideous sideburns :p I still think Froome is as well known now. He has been utterly dominant in the Tour de France and the man divides opinion like no other since Lance and has shown well in the Olympics as well. He even was stronger than Wiggins himself in the year Bradley won the TDF.

The Fiji bench are already in tears of joy. This is as an absolute demolition job. Despite following Team GB I am delighted for them.

Ask someone in the street to name a TdF winner and they would say Armstrong, let's be real!

I would have thought that anyone with a good interest in sport, not just cycling, would know Wiggins, Froome, Contador, Cavendish and indeed Sagan...

Much like they would know Federer, Djokovic, Murray. Or McIlroy, Speith and Day. Or Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo. And so on.

Not necessarily. Cycling does not really get the exposure here. I know plenty who would be big sports fans, and wouldn't know alot about cycling.

It's hard not to be a fan of Rugby when Fiji are playing no matter what code.

This is simply not true. Wiggins is hated by most of Cycling's fans as well as his peers. Cannot hold a candle to the likes of Sagan and Contador in terms of popularity and respect from peers.

Im on about the general public mate. And that includes the majority of fans. I couldn't tell you what his "peers" feel about him because you rarely hear from them at all. I have hardly ever heard of any negative reports from other cyclists towards him to be honest though. A few jibes regarding a few silly antics on tour but sure thats part of his personality and at least adds a bit of liveliness to the tour which badly needs a viewership to be entertained right now.

I don't actually know the average cycling fan, to be honest, I watch some of the tours on Euro sport some weekends. Its a very relaxing sport to watch I find and the endurance is seriously impressive. The guy is a winner, a clean winner, whats not to like?

As I said above most of the cycling world is full of tensed up dullards who rarely break a smile!
If he was as unpopular as you say I imagine a lot of it may be related to Wiggins' honesty and media embracing personality, a guy who is not afraid to speak out about drug culture has angered a lot of his peers who have defended and embraced the doping culture for years. I wouldn't be too bothered whether these guys respected me!

Look at David Walsh. Defamed, hated and hung out to dry by all these "peers" for trying to tell the truth. Meh, these aren't guys i would be too bothered about!

He has always been his own man and gone about things his way. The panto acts on tour are part of his personality such as the bit of stuff that angered Nibali years ago.

And its not only that, the guy has been very successful, he doesn't just ride on his personality to attract fans and respect.

Froome is a very likeable guy and well respected also but that doesn't mean Wiggins can't be respected and popular also!

Probably better for 7s long term prospects in Olympics for them to win.

Fantastic to watch them, power, pace, passing, they have it all.

well most agree! He is the most popular and likeable cyclist there has been in the modern era!

He's not really, he's fairly dour and miserable.

It's a shame we don't have an O'Rourke, or an O'Sullivan, or a McKiernan taking part in T&F. The best we can hope for are a semi final place, which is a huge achievement in itself.

O'Rourke thinks we might get 1 finalist so fingers crossed.

The IOC definitely have to keep 7's beyond Tokyo after that match. Great advert for the game.

I thought I was going crazy for a second seeing people labelling him with a great personality. For all the hate Froome gets he's always bubbly and accommodating in interviews and the likes. Wiggins is always sour and dull as dish water.

They'd probably like closer games than the two hammerings dished out in the medal games. Having said that, Fiji are awesome though.

Great advert for what a team can do, but not so much for the game as it was so one sided. Some of the earlier games, women's included, were a better advertisement given their tightness and end to end play.

depends how you judge charism I guess! I can't answer for you but he was certainly embraced and very popular for the last 5 years! You don't get that by being dull!

Honestly outside Great Britain and Ireland Wiggins is neither well known nor popular. Froome has achieved more than him in road cycling and that gets a lot more exposure than Velodrome. The Tour is the biggest Cycling event something Froome has owned for nearly five years.

Wiggins is always dull and sour. I remember seeing interviews of him when he first started making a name for himself in road cycling and the man wouldn't even look at the interviewer. Froome on the other hand has always that goofy smile and positive aura. And Froome is hardly a guy known for his personality.

David Walsh screwed up with his book about Sky and he is now seen as a bit of a joke in the community. The book was completely basic and didn't help answer questions about doping and whether to believe the team. For a guy who was so ruthless in questioning Armstrong and finding evidence to support that he completely shat the pants when it came to Sky only alluding to modern training without delving into it. The book that was published could have been written by anyone in the community tbh.

Different strokes for different folks I guess! Its a merry go round debate and you think your opinion is strong and likewise I do mine!
Pointless to go on so lets just agree to disagree! :)

I was speaking about media and general public and Wiggins is extremely popular and liked and just because he has a dry humour, which a lot of people love and great wit which doesn't rely on a "goofy smile" doesn't make him dull and sour! That is a serious hyperbolic statement which I have rarely seen thrown at him at all at all!

Also you keep bringing up Froome, what does Froome have to do with what I am saying!! I amn't saying Froome isn't poular, unlikeable or unrespected at all! But its a moot point with regard what I was saying about Wiggins!

ha, this is a silly conversation! Virtual handshake, lets leave it there :)
