Wild thought - Sell the console now while the price is still good for used ones. One the Neo arrives (soon by the looks of it), the price of used non-Neo PS4's will drop significantly imo. I got around €300 for mine (250 or so for the boxed console, 30 odd for the second DS4, & 30 for the camera...so you'd have a very cheap upgrade to a Neo then, which will likely come with a bigger hdd anyway.

Rational thought - I think you're looking at the guts of €100 for a 2TB drive (internal, 2.5").

Summary - if you're going to drop €100 anyway, you might be as well selling up while the price is high & buying a Neo!

I was thinking of upgrading the harddrive in mine also, with either a 1TB hybrid or 2TB HD, the guts of a €100 as you mention. Then I realised I should just delete the games I'm not playing, 500GB is plenty of space for me to have a decent selection of games that I will play. Also gives me an incentive to finish them or play them enough that I'm happy to delete and try something different. A bit like Mame, too much selection and I won't stick with anything for long.

My problem is Cidonalad keeps reinstalling games he wants to play on it, gobbling up space!
A larger hdd would go some way to solving this.
Just realised, I have to make space for Wednesdays No Man's Sky!!!
    Bugger!

The day one update is 824MB in size (the game itself is just 3.69GB)

I'm sure you are aware but Metroid 2 was remade. It's a free download and it's extremely polished.

Well that was quick, It was always going to happen. Shame. I managed to get a copy before it has been shut down. Will give it a whirl over the weekend.

So got my everdrive 64 and loaded it up. Really puts into stark contrast how little there is worthwhile on the system and also how little was released. While the PS1 is constantly surprising me with new games I'd never heard of and the SNES everdrive took me ages to fill with just fan translations alone the N64 was relatively easy. I only really got it for fan translations, of which there's only 3, one is for animal crossing which ended up on Gamecube anyway, one is for Sin and Punishment which is entirely in English anyway other than the options menu and the last is Wonder Project J2 which thankfully is a real hidden gem on the system.

I'm kind of thankful I went the PS1 route that gen. I remember my N64 owning mate getting one game every 6 months and playing it exclusively until the next big release.

I always get so much flack from people for having this opinion :pac:

It has a few stellar games (I'm still playing the hell out of Sin and Punishment at the moment) but the library is so unbelievably tiny when you compare it to the PS1.

I have those Ultimate Everdrive packs for every console that has an everdrive. And the N64 is the most uninteresting/bare :(

I would say there is a few titles that do it better than anyone else.
Having played Waverace 64 with rumble, the Jap version, at full speed, it's amazing.
Mario 64 is another game that has no equal in its generation.
Ocarina, Majora's Mask, Pod Racer, Waverace, 1080°, there's not the epic library of the PS, fuelled by a cheap format and massive support for developers for the console from Sony, it hosted a massive library itself.
But the N64 and the Saturn for that matter, had exclusives that were perfection, and some multiplat releases that worked better on them than the PS as well.

In its latest tribute to retro gaming, the Internet Archive has uploaded a treasure trove of games, applications, and demos for the Amiga family of computers. You can play all of them for free, directly in your browser, but be warned — you might run into a few glitchy titles.

There are more than 2,000 games online, including classics such as Bubble Bobble, R Type, and Double Dragon. However, our searching couldn't find a number of well-loved Amiga titles, such as Elite, Cannon Fodder, and The Secret of Monkey Island (all of which were available on other platforms as well). There are also thousands more applications and demo titles, designed to shown off the hardware's capabilities, though, of course, we've not had time to look through them all.

The N64 has some great games, some of which where the best of the generation. It's just there's not a lot of them. Also there's very little surprising on it. Compared that to the Saturn and PS1 or even the NES and 16-bit platforms, chock full of weird, wonderful and surprising titles.

The lovely thing about being open to more than just modern consoles is you get to enjoy a couple of decades worth of awesome games.
Plus, the consoles are relatively cheap and, well, having wages instead of being a kid means you can own them all, instead of having to choose between a Snes or MD, Saturn or N64 or PS or the glory that is the 3DO!!!!

An impressive array of shmups on the 360. A few here have had modded ones in cabs at one point or another

Play on original hardware! Far more satisfying than ropey emulation and you don't have the problem of too much choice meaning you end up playing nothing.

Apparently the emulation is great so far better than the god awful Megaman collection from years ago.

Just showed up on my Facebook feed, very sad circumstances, always be careful on the water <3.
Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Graphic Designer Manabu Daishima Passes Away
Daishima was a long-time employee of Square Enix, back when the company was merely Squaresoft. His first game was Final Fantasy IV in 1991. Daishima was a visual designer who normally worked on background artwork. He did the field art for Chrono Trigger, 3D map design for Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XII, monster design for Romancing Saga, world graphic design for Secret of Mana, background graphic design for SaGa Frontier. His final title was was Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday.

That's some resume. It's pretty much a list of the best Pixel art work ever created and his 3D work was far from shabby with titles that made the PS2 and PSP sing.

I did it on my current PC. Boot times measured in seconds now and everything totally responsive on boot. It makes the PS4 OS seem lethargic in comparison and really not user friendly. You're doing something wrong when using a PC is more user friendly than a console OS!

Original hardware is so much nicer than emulation. PS2s don't crash half as much as PCSX2.

I was playing the Wonder Project J game using a PS3 pad and its just not nice. Need to get my NES up and running and the N64 Backlog sorted before I can even think of buying a SNES.

That being said I've plenty of time for it.

I really want to build an arcade cabinet, are they worth it for anyone with one? And is sticking a few consoles behind a screen and jamming a few Everdrives in a good idea or are they better off placed with loving care around a TV in the console room.

Well, you just missed a cheap as chips never to be repeated bargain on the A&R Marketplace here!

Only just saw that earlier! Cracking price and a tinge of regret missing that one. Would've been good for the kids and keep them away from the cab. Maybe I should head over to that retro regret thread. :pac:

Also, fcuk Shovel Knight! Loving and hating that game in equal measure at the minute. Doesn't help I have to do every level 3 times as the kids have their own saves but the game is too hard for them (and me!). Sigh... :D

Is there a way, I wonder, to get Another Metroid 2 Remake working on the Raspberry Pi?
It would be nice to have it running on the cab, on that lovely CRT monitor.

Would have almost bought that bartop myself, but sure you can't be greedy and buy up everything.

Plus my fixation on runners and the sale on Adidas got the better of me. 15% discount code on full price items was only valid for a couple of weeks too. Had to use it...

So I'm officially in Toronto as of now! ( well a few hours ago). Might do a Steve Bailey and sell retro stuff as there's a big neighbourhood garage sale in the next couple of weeks :pac:
