To my mind the greatest Olympian has to be a gymnast - the difficulty level is off the scale compared to all other sports.

    What even water polo:eek:

Found the level of analysis on the RTE coverage very variable so far, but the gymnastic coverage is excellent. Very informative and very easy to listen to as well.

Sounds like Kieran Behan missed out on qualification, and got injured.

Feed I'm watching must be way behind. Did he actually finish his routine or get injured midway through?

He finished but had to be helped out of the Arena, after receiving a disappointing score.

The RTE pundits reckon he won't qualify.

They just announced that the scores are in and he's missed out. They didn't say by how much.

Disappointing way to end but acquitted himself well. Seems a fairly tough and brutal sport that.

Looked like he got injured on the last landing (and then took a step forward). Was even unable to make the walk past the judges, looked in real pain. Was wheeled out of the arena they said. You're right Anon - they didn't say where he came. Pity, did his best, unfortunate.

The floor seems to be catching people out all day and that would have been one of his strengths, hopefully his injury is minor, he can be proud of himself.

He finished 38th overall, he would have needed another 2.1 to have made the cut which was at 26th position. Looking forward to seeing Ellis O'Reilly tomorrow.

On another note, who on earth is doing the basketball commentary, and when is he leaving town again? Boom.

Wow, that completely bypassed me! Bring back Liam Hartigan, that's all I can say.

They just reported that Behan dislocated his knee. Poor guy must have done something bad in a past life.

He dislocated his knee at the very very end of his floor routine, on the final landing of his final event.

He says he did it on the first tumble: http://www.the42.ie/kieran-behan-rio-2-2914271-Aug2016/
Just as soon as my feet touched the ground on that first tumble and the knee went, I just knew that it was about survival and just getting through the rest of the routine.

Shouldn't we be starting a new thread each day if it's going to be called "daily thread"?

    One daily daily thread.....

Ellis O'Reilly doin' it for Ireland now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,380 ✭✭✭✭walshb

In gymnastic terms the two performances so far are very basic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭Dan man

Another wonderful score by an Irish eventer with Jonty Evans on Cooley Rorke's Drift scoring 41.2. Great start!

Lucky not to do herself a serious injury because she landed on her head. She seems okay though, thank goodness.

She may not feel well later. Possible injury that takes bit of time to show. Hopefully not. They really are super super human!

She seemed okay, she didn't appear to be in too much discomfort just upset about ruining her dismount. Well done to Ellis anyway, she made history today.
