I take no consolation whatsoever from the strength of camogie and ladies football tbh.
Cork used to be synonymous with success on the hurling pitch and no amount of camogie AIs is going to make up for the deplorable state of hurling in our county.

I take great consolation in what our ladies achieve. The footballers in particular. They are the best cork team I have ever seen and the joy and excitement they have brought is second to none. The qualities they have, skill, determination, never say die attitude etc there hasn't been a Cork team that compares to them imo. They have maintained all those qualuties at the top for over 10 years.

We were synonymous with success once, those successes are there for all to see , that won't change. It will be some time till we are back at the top table in either code, which is nothing short of a disgrace. But we will be back, I have no doubt. But it will be a number of years before we are.

Till then, I will enjoy watching the ladies do what the ladies do best.

I would be much more worried about the hurlers than the footballers if I was from Cork.

Some of the criticism the footballers receive both locally and nationally is unbelievably unfair at times. There's definitely the nucleus of a very competitive team there if you could get the right guy in charge.

Possibly time to put out a few feelers outside the county?

    +1

I don't watch huge amount of ladies gaa, but that comeback by Cork against Dublin few years ago was incredible.

    The ladies teams are terrific.

Absolutely. The football situation I reckon could be resolved in 2 years if the will was there .
Hurling on the other hand is a much more difficult and longterm fix. And that's assuming we had the structures, resources etc in place immediately. That as we all know is most definitely not the case.

Cork football looks to be on the turn, lots of positives. Peader Healy has built a good panal of players, and a excellent back room team. We came from division 2 before to win Sam. Future looks bright.

Hahahaha. Good man. That's the spirit. Getting relegated, shipping huge scores to Roscommon and Tipperary, scraping past limerick and Longford, not scoring for over 20 minutes against Donegal when in a winning position. Yeah boy, things are looking up alright.

You should take some heart - shows how a strong underage development system developed with good coaches can lead to success over time with both.

Minors playing v Dublin in final tomorrow

They do have some influence from the board, but generally are left to get on with things. Have a fantastic liaison person for the footballers as well

I think Loughrey or O Sullivan would have made a difference yesterday in man marking McBrearty. I do have more faith in Healy and his team with the footballers than the hurlers tbh

Best of luck to the minor Ladies football team going for back to back titles.Would recommend tuning in to TG4 to watch(4:45), last couple of finals v Galway were absolute cracking games

Lads for anyone looking to head up on Sunday for Waterford v KK I have 3 spare tickets that I will sell at a much reduced price to get them off my hands.

Bought them for family that can no longer attend.

Tickets are in the Cusack Stand Section 302 and are far enough back to be covered for anyone fearing a repeat of the Munster Final weather.

    PM if interested.

    Minors up 2-07 v 1-05 at ht

Conceeded a goal in the first minute but came back well to be 5 up

We are the better team, with some nice interplay and a full foward line that are capable of causing major trouble, especially our full foward who has 2-02.

Dublin have raiked up some very high scorelines in their previous games, but I wonder about the opposition given their first half performance

Our backs are holding them well, we look dangerous going forward and if we can limit their goal scoring chances we should win as I expect us to get another couple of goals.

But in this age group you never know.

Moving the ball fast, Saoirse Noonan (14) is so far in front of her marker it is brilliant. Getting the ball into that full forward line fast will keep Cork in the driving seat.

Dublin forced to kick the ball inside the 45, but the Cork backs doing a superb job in either winning or breaking that ball stopping the Dublin attacks.

    2-14 to 2-6 with 17 minutes left

Was a 9 point lead at one stage, now back to two!

    Cork win. 2-19 v 4-09

    Fantastic second half

Saoirse Noonan, 2-05, at full foward is certainly one for the senior team, super player.

While Dublin did get the goals, corks superior point scoring ability shone through.

With just over 4 mins left, Cork played keep ball for 3 minutes, just like the senior team do, great to see

Great win for the girls, thoroughly deserved.

They showed fantastic maturity when the dubs came back into it. A powerful finish to win it.

Excellent camogie player as well, I worked with her at county level when U13, seriously talented girl

any idea does she prefer the GAA or soccer? i'd imagine she would be unable to combine both as she moves into senior teams in each code

Sadhbh O Leary lined out at left corner forward and scored 5 points from play. She took ownership at the end by putting them into a four point lead. She will be Minor again next year. Ciara McCarthy at midfield is still only under 16 . Saoirse Noonan was unreal. She played no part in the Munster competition as was on international soccer duty. She only came in for the Galway game.

I think Loughrey or O Sullivan would have made a difference yesterday in man marking McBrearty. I do have more faith in Healy and his team with the footballers than the hurlers tbh

Cork had no back who could mark McBrearty, most counties of Ireland woudn't have had an answer to him on Saturday tbf but Loughreys reputation has been improved from missing the game it seems.

On the whole, Saturday went how I expected it to - Donegal closed out the game well after a slow start, with Cork playing for pride and running out of steam.

If Aidan Walsh could improve his shooting he'd be invaluable to Cork, I thought Cork used the bench well with Kelly & O'Neill coming on with enough time to influence, yet I don't think they impacted the game as much as I'd expected them to - particularly Kelly who's a fine footballer & did get involved in one or two scores, that said, I expected him to drop deep and push Cork on, I think it's what he's best at.

Leadership is definitely lacking in the current squad, perhaps I'm incorrect to question their mentality, but I mentioned to a friend - Donegal went into that last 10minutes convinced they could win, that they would win and that they're the team who can put it up to Dublin & go on to win an All Ireland - Cork don't and it's because of involvement in poor IC setups, improper management & down to the players themselves.

I honestly don't think that Cork are that far off - there's a massive amount of work that could be done with that team & even as a Kerryman I'd like to see it - there's an abundance of footballing talent available in Cork, what's required is backing of coaches/managers/county board members with the vision, drive and most importantly - backing to see them through the next 2-3 years.

no body to mark McBrearty and no body to clatter him. don't mean a dirty belt but just let him know he was in a game rather than giving him the freedom of the field.

I'd say he got plenty of clatters off Cadogen tbf :pac:

McBrearty is also a tank it's worth noting

Great post, agree with this in particular. This is why I would be more frustrated with the footballers than with the hurlers, who don't have anywhere close to the standard of player required at the moment. The footballers have enough talent, it's about finally getting somebody to mound it into a serious team.

Has any reason been given why the IHC fixtures have been changed, Castlemartyr now playing Fr O'Neils. It smacks of making sure that the favourites make the final

The gaacork website seems to suggest that the error was the reporting of the draws...
