It's a solid clean cheap car alright but unfortunately the @rse has fallen outta the small engined 90's car market now due to insurance. The last few years them sorta cars were a goldmine; buy cheap with no test bitta DIY repairs sell with fresh test to someone looking for a runabout for as close to €1000 as possible. Rakes were at it but it's a dead duck now. Even the bangernomics thread is faltering in a way. Post 2003 Cars in the 1-2k bracket are all the go now but most of the older stuff is being let run out of test and no one wants them even if they're tested cos come renewal time they're an unwanted headache. There's a glut of untested stuff on donedeal that'll most likely be scrapped or broke it's a shame but it's the way it's gone.

That's true! I feel bad for Gvido though. He spent money on alloys, new tyres and new brake discs/pads. The car should be good to go for a while!

You could actually buy that car just for the wheels and tyres to be honest

Cheap 2005 Punto that hasn't darkened an NCT doorway for 4 years. How bad could it be? ha! worth a punt at possibly under 300.

2001 VW Bora bought for 200 euro.

Bought it in a hurry as my other car died on me. Turned out to be a little bargain actually.

Needs a few little bits like exhaust is a bit rattly, bushings on drivers side wishbone, and a radio as someobe took it for some reason...

We've had this in Bangernomics a few times - NCT 12/17 and tax 9/16 - down to €1195 now with a suspected camshaft sensor failure.

Alfa has been sold. If true what the fault is then its a very cheap and easy fix.
Surprised the seller would ask so little.

Failed the NCT this month due to corroded rear and centre brake lines and one of the parking lights (angel eye) isn't working (see picture of NCT report).

    Angel eye bulb: ~ €4
    Brake lines: €250?

I need and engine and gearbox for a much older model but that'd be a shame to break that car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,415 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

I think the rack really adds to the look of that car, unfortunately don't come with the sale :)

In some of the BMW replacing the break lines in really PITA. I don't know if it is in E39, but one needs to take the tank off. Awful job...

    Here's a thread about break lines in E39: http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17760

Woah. Well I was talking about the 12082 bulb (swapped one yesterday). Are you getting some super fancy version?

Beautiful Range Rover. I love it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65,469 ✭✭✭✭unkel

S-type likely to be just an electrical glitch. Disconnect battery for an hour and see is it gone. Maybe read out the code too before you buy. I'd want that car for well under a grand though.

Range Rover hasn't had an NCT for 10 years :D

Tax / NCT are optional extras in Mayo last time I checked. Most people don't seem to bother.

    My ads on adverts.ie:

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro, other inverters and batteries and usually some watches!

For the angel eye rings? You can replace the bulb in the holder but it's a pain in the ass, I just bought a new one.

Harsh. I've never been more than about 4 days out of tax in all my years driving and I'm in rural mayo.
Even worse, was stopped at check point and tax queried a few weeks back. This was the Monday and it ran out on the Thursday before I think.

Didn't mean to insult you / insinuate that nobody in Mayo pays their taxes. Apologies if I came across that way.

The last time I was in Mayo (admittedly about 5 years ago) I had a few minutes to kill in a hotel car park and for something to do I walked around and I observed that less than half the cars with a Mayo reg had a valid tax disk displayed.

I honestly don't know how they get away with it.
You will be stopped about twice a year so with the current tax laws, alot of those untaxed cars will be getting hit for back tax. It was a joke under old system no doubt.
