The landlord of the house is the only one laughing here.

Who ever in the social services signed off on that amount should appear before the PAC and explain this one.

    A week?? The fúck!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Saw that earlier. Feels weird to be agreeing with a judge for a change.

That situation and every other where money is paid out for similar accommodation should be audited and all details of who owns the properties made public along with any connections to public representatives or those in the civil service/state employees.

Edit - Just re-read it and it seems this is an apartment in some type of sheltered developement which is locked between 9pm and 7am. it is operated by a private company(anyone know who they are?) who are charging more than airBnB for the place!

A one bedroom flat in Mayfair in London costs 2700£ per calendar month. €3200. There may be a misprint in the article? There may be supervisory staff also present?

    Like L'oreal, it's because they're worth it.

Apparently no staff present and the youth is free to come and go as he pleases when the doors are unlocked for the day

The article says no additional services are being provided.

Any public servant who is that careless with the states money should be demoted to a level where they can't sign off on anything.

If they get him a cheaper flat he might start getting abusive again.

"We want to put you in a 3,000 a week flat"

"the f*ck you will" *smash #!#?!!

If we had a free press in this country they would dig deep into these type of financial arrangements between the state and private companies

They should be sacked when it is on a scale like this monthly rent. I would love to know if the person who signed off has any connection to the person that owns the apartment.

    What's wrong with sacking them?

How is the centre home thing he was at so expensive then? That seems very high as well, quarter of a million a year per person.

4500 a week? Christ. I'm sure that article isn't the whole story but that's just mental to me. How much do these 'centres' cost to keep them in?
    I'd be charging that amount as well if the tenant was going to;
“He was assaulting staff, smashing up the place, up on the roof of the unit, into cars

Never mind the price, its the location I'm struggling with.

4,500€ a week rent, "in a town in Louth"

What bloody town in Louth demands 18k a month apartment rentals?

Media need to dig deeper on this one. I'd love to know who the landlord is or connected to. Could be the tip of the iceberg and there may be more cosy arrangements like this out there.

Absolutely farcical waste of state funds and someone needs to have the book thrown at them.

The 4500 per week includes the price of 3 fat lads to sit on him 24/7 to stop him wrecking the gaff

What s two grand when its the public purse, but I was going on the principle of a four week month.

    4 x 4.5 = 18.

She said: “He was assaulting staff, smashing up the place, up on the roof of the unit, into cars. The fact that the boy is able to maintain his new residential placement without assaulting or abusive behaviour or without coming to attention of the Gardaí, to me — that is a huge improvement.”

I just don't understand this. Why are we rewarding bad behaviour? Why aren't the Gardai involved?

I assume the teenager requires round-the-clock supervision. Lets say there are 3 workers in a 24-hour period on an average of €30,000 each. That's about €100,000 when considering salaries & employer PRSI contributions.

The article says that a private psychologist is costing €7,000 p.a. Lets say the boy is getting counselling 5 days per week every week @€;50 per session, that's €13,000. That's a total of €20,000 on counselling and psychological care.

That still "only" comes to €120,000, which leaves €130,000 for accomodation, food and uh, petty spending.

Something is seriously wrong with that figure, and it shouldn't take a judge to point it out.
