Please enlighten me then as I'm unsure the point your trying to make

I'm curious as you agree with the OP do you think the OPs opinions is coming from a place of concern like yourself or is is more anger/fear of something they don't like/understand?

I think its about concern ... I hate those ejits in front of me with their mobiles or worse ipads above their head filming a concert. (we need more mosh pits)

Am I old fashioned if I want a mobile free restaurant ?

or this in relation to something people dont like or understand

    LOL poor attempt at baiting.

Its sad really that you cant open your mind that some people might enjoy things that are different than what you do and to hide your fear of change must insult them instead of simply accepting "hey things change".

amazing how you tried to jump on my comment with a trite old clichie of your own before I easily ripped you a new one of techiboy.

The most annoying thing with these people is that they block my camera angle with their devices

Anyone remember that movie with Bruce Willis called Surrogates?

I think that is more prophecy than fiction at this stage :D

I would agree with mobile free restaurants and yes there is definitely a concern with things the washnigton times article brings up however again I point to Pokemon go, people are outside and interacting in the real world while playing on their phones. This is the first foray into AR and due to its outrageous popularity it wont be the last we see of it. People are enjoying the social aspect just as much as the game aspect so it will likely be something encouraged and developed upon by both Niantic, who make the pokemon app, and whoever creates the next big game.

Technology is ever evolving and theres no reason it cant also then be the solution to the same problems it creates.

I love AR myself very handy when looking at the stars Heck I will even try out VR .. Nothing wrong with technology but there are some serious issues which the OP tackled as well

    And I don't think your
Get over yourself, your not original with this tired faux outrage just cus you don't understand it

Was only aimed at the pokemon bit

The OP tackled nothing seriously, their language was belligerent, intentionally ignorant of the fact that people were likely recording the concert to watch again in a few years, as well as completely ignoring the many good stories and effects about pokemon go which again once pointed out to them they immediately went on the defensive to insult me as my points didn't suit their narrative of "smart phones = bad" and every post since then has just been an attempt to bait me into replying to them in a similar manner.

That attitude reads to me as someone who is just looking to rant about something they don't like/understand and when called on the obvious flaws in that argument couldn't handle it.

    And ?

Didn't we agree on that issue in regards to use of Mobile phones ?

Yeah he's an idiot, 2 people also fell off a cliff while playing they are also idiots, there's gotta be some aspect of personal responsibility, its too easy to blame the tech when people do something stupid with it.

Do you blame a car when someone drives too fast/drunk and causes a crash?

I accidentally swallowed an ice cube whole yesterday and still have not passed it, should I be concerned?

Wonders how you can enjoy the concert through your own ears and eyes while sussing everyone else out? Or am I missing something?

I would have a rant about that pokeman crap if I would have been a passenger on that bus

I would have a go at the booze culture when someone causes a crash while being drunk

It is not the tech per se but when something new is launched there is no escaping it :D

I think the OP has a point - I don't understand the hostility here.
It is very annoying to see all the phones waving around when you are trying to enjoy a concert. I understand people want to record it for later viewing - but it is very inconsiderate to others and somewhat negates the whole concept of a live experience.

The OP is just jumping onto the bandwagon of people "rebelling" against some sort of societal change in an effort to prove some intellectual superiority over others. The fact that they posted this on a social media site to gather opinions and like minded people is no doubt lost on them.

I think the OP has a point and I have my own issues with tech and aspects of social media, particularly in how its used.

I would disagree with your assertion that the OP is using boards as a social media vehicle. Boards is around a long time and you should know considering your join date. For many boards was the first introduction to online discussion. Its annonymous and came long before FB, twitter, instagram, etc. etc. etc. Its a completely different vehicle altogether. Its actually a place where the OP is right to express an opinion and garner opinion. In fairness one is entitled to use the internet to express opinions about aspects of it even if they are negative opinions. There is no irony here.

Seems to be the pattern on boards. Go with the flow and keep your trap shut.

Maybe you should have the discussion about this here during a first date ..... You will soon see it has nothing to do With intellectual superiority.

So your saying people arent responsible for their choices or actions? Someone drinks and drives its the booze culture thats at fault? Someone drives a bus while texting/playing whatever the new craze is its the phone and whoever made it that is the problem?

If anything we are falling away from reality when we start absolving grown adults of personal responsibility for their actions

Of course people are responsible for their own actions ... Using their mobiles in restaurants, recording concerts with their phones etc ... I don't get the point you want to make .. You already agreed to these points as being rude etc

Are We Falling Away from Reality?

Look we can give out about smart phones at concerts and people enjoying it through them, but if you went back to a Roger Water's gig 30 years ago you'd have a hard time finding anyone with a sense of reality at it.

Yes, these fools are falling away from reality, over a cliff :)

By saying you would rant about pokemon go if you had been on the bus or about booze culture if someone was drunk driving you are saying you put at least some of the blame on the app and booze culture while surely 100% of the blame should go on the person who made the decision to be stupid enough to drink or play the game while driving.

Rant about the bus driver being stupid to play or the driver being stupid to drink but blaming anyone or anything but them is absolving them of some portion of responsibility for their actions
