And the ****e one about planting thorny shrubs along the perimeter of your property because 'the bad guys' hate them. The sort of feral scum that break into houses aren't going to be put off by a few ****ing roses.

You are wrong. Defensive planting is very successful so much so that a lot of Police Stations have areas planted up to show people.

Plants like Pyrocantha & Berberis have seriously nasty thorns.

That poxy Volkwagen ad (GMBH no less, Zer-ze- zilch?) is back and on heavy rotation!

I can't believe that VW's marketing department are aware of that ad. He comes across as a stupid pervert "Oh I like Models "

Obviously anything like thorny shrubs doesn't make life easy for burglars but it's such a trivial suggestion in the light of the type of scum that are roaming the countryside. I seem to remember an equally trivial Ad with a blonde (?) airhead talking about people breaking in and robbing all your stuff...obviously dreamt up by some fool who has not experienced having their property broken into.

Another Axa suggestion - don't announce on social media that you're going on holiday. What next - don't forget to cancel the milk and newspaper deliveries? Axa - my heroes.

Two adverts that make me switch the second they come on...

Appliances direct / delivered (usually can switch station before i hear the second word) Dreadfully written with equally annoying vo.

123.ie with some utter eejit saying "I called un whoo heree da aye eee."

Ffs - did they search for the most appalling voice in Ireland?

I used to work on radio adverts years ago (scripting) and neither of above would have got on Nova, Sunshine or Q102 (the REAL ones - not the current day imposters :) )

On a similar vein are the appalling "you in the blue hoodie" ads for some security company making the environment safer - by warning scumbags off so that they can go and rob somewhere else.

That bo**** with the storage place has been back on for a couple of weeks. Whatsisname - Rupert or something - feck it, I can't remember. Almost makes me punch something. "Nought nought nought nought - and even politicians." Bleedin' knob. If I ever met him, I'd be arrested for what I'd do to him.

Come on Tony, keep up. He's changed the ad it's now "nought nought nought nought - and even .... *inexplainable pause*..... BOOKIES"

No doubt if you open one of those particular lockups you will find a mound of cash that is being hidden from the taxman.

I was trying to find away to write that,....you've nailed it.

There is an ad for Kayak, whatever the f*ck Kayak is.

Something about buying some but not all of a bottle of suncream.

It's neither here nor there, really, until the end of the conversation when one of the women says "ah, here" in a totally different accent to the rest of the conversation.

What the flip is that all about?

This is the part that bothers me too. Not that it was a good advert to begin with, but this really kills it for me.

And I thought I was the only one who had noticed the lack of continuity here. How difficult can it be to find somebody capable of maintaining their accent for 30 seconds?

Just heard it again - extraordinary.

Another Ad which I've just switched off is for "Once" - I seem to remember the movie isn't too bad but the "Once" theme song has to be one of the most dreary soundng tunes (?) ever.

Like 95% of Hansard's music. Once was no Commitments!

One of the quotes on the radio ad states: "Hysterically funny" says the Irish Daily Mail. Hysterically funny? I have an image of a Daily mail reviewer rolling around in aisles, screaming and tearing their hair out.

Speaking of shows, I am starting to mentally prepare myself for the annual "June Rodgers Xmas show at the Red Cow Hotel" torture ads. Sweet baby Jesus protect me...

If they didn't get pretentious the whole place would have to have a name change. Sandyford Shopping Centre might be about right.

    Whats with the Supermacs ad
    1) annoying happy tune playing in the background that simply does not belong on a fast food/clog your arteries ad,
    2) Pat MacDonagh, i know you own the company and all but you cannot butcher the language, it is sandwich "sand-wich' not "sang widge"

I'd say Pat is deliberately mis-pronouncing it.

Have to switch that ad off before he gets to that word. I've no problem with sticking to your roots and it's sangwich in some parts of the country but be over-pronounces it as well as mispronouncing it.

Are there actually people who genuinely pronounce it that way? Where I'm from it's always said in an OTT way. "Shur will we have some hang sangiches and a nice mug of tae?!", of particular use during turf season.

I think until I was about ten years of age I genuinely believed it was "sangwidge"

I thought it was one of those funny French words spelled differently to its pronunciation.

(North Tipperary born and raised, on a turf bank is where I spent most of my days)

I still hear it regularly in Tipp. Never pronounced ham as 'hang' though. That's Ultra bogger.

No word of a lie: I once saw a sign advertising "Sangüiches" in Madrid!

Yep. If he pronounced it correctly he would alienate 90% of his customer base as they wouldn't know what he was talking about.
It would be like when Dave Fanning covered for Ronan Collins.

Yep. It's relatively common and although it's more prevalent in some parts of the country, there are people all over the place here who say it.

I suppose it could be that some people have been exposed to the OTT parodying of the word and taken it to be the actual pronunciation?

When I was a child, I'm pretty sure we all said sangwich and it wasn't until some point when a teacher or parent decided it was time that we learned how to say it the way it was meant.
