Imagine if Brian Wilson had been born in Liverpool around 1942 and bumped into the others at the Woolton Fete.

Although maybe it was better that their rivalry inspired each other from a distance, it might have crashed and burned if it was John+Paul+Brian+George+Ringo

If the bomb had gone off, then we wouldn't have to hear England going on about 1966 all the time :D

I really enjoyed that Pet Sounds Doc. Good interviews with the people who made it, but also with those on the fringes. Some rare archive video, interesting anecdotes, discussion of the difficulties in getting the Album made.

Hope they repeat more of those Classic Albums programmes soon.

Hello, there's a bit of a Bowie night on BBC Four on Friday. The new programme is a live Proms recital of his works. Those kind of programmes can go either way, but there is a quality Documentary on afterwards.

A few other bits and bobs on too, will Simon Bates still be calling them Depech-eh Mode on TOTP? Maybe he still does ...

Featuring previously unseen footage from home movies and concert performances, including his legendary 1971 `retirement concert' in Los Angeles, this latter part of the tribute to the showman follows Sinatra's growth from roadhouse performer to global singing sensation

Midnight Keith Richards: The Origin Of The Species (BBC2)

Ending at the point the Stones formed in 1962, the film explores, through Richards' own coming-of-age story, the cultural undercurrents and transformative thinking that occurred in Britain during the 1940s and 50s, and made possible the worldwide explosion of English rock music in the 60s, at the forefront of which were the Rolling Stones, the Who and the Beatles

God Only Knows - masterpiece :)

Granted, but (and this might be blasphemy) but I find Pet Sounds over rated as a whole. Sgt. Pepper too btw, I prefer Revolver. Let it Be is the Beatles most under rated album I think. The "naked" version showed its true potential.

I actually found Let It Be... Naked really boring compared to the original album. And I love Pet Sounds :) You're right about Revolver over Pepper though, I might take Rubber Soul over either of them.

I'd agree with regards to Let It Be. The overly produced Phil Spector version of "The Long And Winding Road" with orchestra makes that song a lot more "long and winding" than it needs to be!

With Sgt. Pepper's I can see what you're saying, it's nowhere near their best work, IMO and I'd put Revolver as my favourite album of theirs as well. But Sgt. Pepper's needs to be viewed/heard with the era in mind, it was ahead of it's time in that sense.

'The Beat Room' looked like a great show - surprise, surprise BBC did some wiping... :(

The first show, broadcast on Monday 6 July 1964 at 6.35 p.m., featured The Animals, Lulu & the Luvvers, and Millie Small. The final show was broadcast on 29 January 1965. Tapes of all but one of the programmes were later destroyed. The only remaining programme (no. 14), was broadcast on 5 October 1964 and featured Tom Jones, Julie Rogers, The Kinks, Wayne Gibson and the Dynamic Sounds, John Lee Hooker, and The Syndicats. Other musicians featured in the series included Davy Jones & The King Bees, Elkie Brooks, Brenda Lee, The Swinging Blue Jeans, Tommy Tucker, The Hollies, Dave Berry, Georgie Fame, Lesley Gore, Bill Haley and the Comets, Zoot Money, Peter and Gordon, The Honeycombs, The Nashville Teens, Carl Perkins, Dionne Warwick, The Dixie Cups, The Routers, Little Walter, The Beach Boys, Sonny Boy Williamson, Jackie DeShannon, Heinz, The Rockin' Berries, Marvin Gaye, Paul Anka, and Cliff Bennett.
