    Gulf Air GF45 A320 BAH - IST now heading god knows where after a circuit in the hold and almost 4 hours in the air. Thessaloniki or Athens maybe diversion options

    TK791 TLV to IST only got airborne 20mins ago and is just on finals back into TLV. Transatlantic flights that are on their way will probably divert. will be interesting to see where they will end up if they have to divert.

    Landed in Athens.

    2 x TCX and 1 x MON carried on regardless to Dalaman and Antalya.

    thanks just saw that. Strangely last time I looked Sabiha Gökçen International (SAW) the second airport in Istanbul was accepting traffic but then again why would you be landing there at all unless it was a fuel issue or you were a domestic airline.

    most of the media reporting is garbage, both Istanbul airports have been taking inbound flights, and there have been departures from Antalya and Ankara throughout the evening, and some departures from SAW (Istanbul second airport). Some non Turkish Airlines flights have diverted elsewhere, as mentioned above.

    Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

    Not really an aviation issue, but this is just incredible.

    If the President was on board would he have his position on free to air/any services? Especially given fighter jets have shot down helis.

    Only from SAW airport, which never actually closed. The major IST airport still appears to be inaccessible with possible gunfire.

    Looks like a number of IST flights are diverting to Antalya, but that may well be down to nothing more sinister than a lack of ramp space at IST to accept them, due to the cancellation of departures, there is a very real space issue at IST overnight under normal circumstances, and with the situation tonight, I suspect there's no spaces left for even small aircraft, let alone the wide body traffic. At least 6 maybe more WB's appear to be heading for Antalya at the moment.

    Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

    Airport looks closed, all departures / arrivals cancelled.

    Another nail in the turkish airlines coffin. A real pity as they are a great alternative to the middle eastern rivals, Istanbul is a much nicer airport to transit through too

    Turkish airlines are very much in the air again, given the manner and severity of the disruption to their operation, I have to admit to a sneaking admiration for how fast they've managed to get things moving again. They had huge numbers of out of place aircraft and crews overnight. quite a few long haul aircraft ended up in Antalya rather than Istanbul, probably for space reasons on the ground, let alone the disruption caused by the coup/political situation.
    I did a couple of trips to Istanbul last year, and the airline is indeed impressive, though Istanbul airport would not be my favourite place to be using on a regular basis, the queues for passport control are horrendous, even late in the evening, but that's the price you pay for going through a busy airport, there's a lull in flights for about 4 hours in the early hours of the morning, but the rest of the day, it's constant on 2 runways, with nothing smaller than a 737 or A320 getting near the place, and a high proportion of wide body aircraft operating there.

    In reality, while the last 24 hours will not have been good for them, ( or good for Turkey, but that's a discussion for a different forum) the disruption would have been equally bad had there been a major incident or accident on one of the 2 runways, the volume of traffic there is such that there is no way there would not be massive disruption if one runway was closed for any length of time.

    I'm sure there will be short term problems with people choosing to go through other hubs, rather than Turkey, but memories tend to be short, especially when things are price sensitive. Time will tell, but I wouldn't be writing Turkish Airlines off just yet, unless things don't settle down quickly on the political side of things.

All airline carriers, regardless of country of registry, are prohibited from flying into the United States from Turkey either directly or via third country.

    Can anyone explain why RYR50CA takes such an indirect route?

    Departed Vigo and flew along the north coast to Santander before turning towards Dublin. It also appears to be low & slow at 25,000ft & 360kts

    If I remember rightly its to do with being within a certain distance from a suitable airfield in case of diversion. If they went direct they would be outside this range.

    Can anyone confirm if all ryr aircraft have HF radios fitted?

    But why on this flight? Faro to Dublin ( https://www.flightradar24.com/RYR91XT/a63229b ) is currently flying out over the Bay if Biscay, a lot further away than the Vigo flight.

    Yeah, the whole fleet are fitted with HF, the ACE 14:35 departure yesterday went delayed due to the HF radio being tech, they ended up doing an a/c change because they couldn't get a rerouted flight plan over land to use the original aircraft

    An unusual departure route for the nightly "BCS2939" from Shannon to East Midlands, headed north west then in over Galway bay. perhaps avoiding some cells.

    Operating TAY014F from Belfast to East Midlands is a 33 year old B767, reg SE-RLB. one of the oldest ive seen round these parts.

    was also one in Kerry last week as local person was coming from Germany after an operation, assume its something similar with this one.
