What is all this crap about criminalising men for "talking" to women.

    It is not talking.
    Get a grip.

The last time i was cat called I was alone, at night in the city centre. A man walked passed me and and said some really nasty, degrading **** and somehow I was supposed to be impressed????????
Is this what you mean by talking to women??
Well when I told him to leave me alone, he followed me and shouted more ABUSE at me. I was scared and on my own. I had to run away.
What made him angry? I told him to piss off, yip, that was it.
He was actually angry at me because I actually voiced the fact that his SEXUAL HARRASSMENT was unacceptable.

THIS is what we are talking about.

Once again, get a ****ing grip lads.

With every single time I have had some creepy, sexual **** said to me by a total stranger I told them to go **** themselves.

Should I just smile and bat my eyelids instead yes?

It is not about men talking to women in a bar, saying hello, chatting someone up.
When was the last time you talked, chatted up a women by shouting at her in street?

I cant post links so google 10 hours of walking in NYC as a woman.

Men have no bloody idea how prevalent it is.

Is that with your woman pretty much nearly bet into the clothes and gets stuff like "Can I get your number or whistled at ?" or “Dam your fine” such a hard life for a youtuber to get views.

    http://www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/news/2016-07-13/police-nottinghamshire-recognise-harassment-women-hate-crime

Misogyny hate crime, in addition to the general hate crime definition, may be understood as incidents against women that are motivated by an attitude of a man towards a woman, and includes behaviour targeted towards a woman by men simply because they are a woman.

Examples of this may include unwanted or uninvited sexual advances; physical or verbal assault; unwanted or uninvited physical or verbal contact or engagement; use of mobile devices to send unwanted or uninvited messages or take photographs without consent or permission.

You've gotten yourself into a tizzy thinking men want to be allowed to do what you described in your post which isn't true.

The debate is about how it's specifically about men and that "unwanted verbal contact" is now illegal. Men can't know if it's unwanted, until after they've made contact.

No she didn't. She thinks there's no law already stopping that behavior so why would she.

Also everything on YT is real.... Just ask the person if the broadcaster she is watching is a YT partner.... Means they are getting paid on views....

Firstly, the "debate" as far as I see is a load of guys getting their balls in a twist.
Do you suddenly think that lots of guys in nottingham are suddenly going to be arrested? LOL

Unwanted verbal contact is a more general term which any person with a brain can decipher that this means harassment.

    No chat, not saying hello.

    It is not now illegal.

    Harassment has always been illegal.
The difference is that now, this form of harassment against women, which was before regarded as harmless is no longer regarded that way.

    Use your brain.

So if there is something that is helpful to women and makes them feel safer and able to report harassment by the opposite sex then it mens that men are goin to be ignored if they experience harassment?

Are you not aware that unwanted verbal contact, does not mean that the woman can be unhappy with what is being said no matter what?

    UGH

I'm sure you called the Garda being so afraid afterwards ?

Why would I sure its just harmless banter and sure I should be flattered, whats to report?

So do you think that I am pretending that I was not afraid or intimidated?

I rang a friend and had them stay on the phone with me until he gave up.

And yes I was pretty fukcing scared. Just shows how clueless you are.

But ye love it right, sure we're only admiring yer tight arses and those lovely tight pants that show you bulging manlihood.
I bet it gives you an ego boost that a woman in the street is admiring your arse, maybe she wants your number.
    Uh... Yes, actually.

I realise that some men might feel differently, and also that there are typically sex-based size differences between males and females.

But in the absence of a reasonable fear of physical danger, I honestly cannot fathom why Street compliments would be upsetting, let alone "scary".

Like a previous poster, I've been groped by a woman in a nightclub, it was super annoying. But randomers shouting compliments? That would be lovely, and would put a right pep in my step I daresay. A very cheerful experience altogether.

Fwiw, I consider myself a male feminist, in the sense that I'd like to see gender equality, and a society that is designed to fairly accommodate both sexes. But choose your battles more wisely. This is not a hate crime.

Simple question did you call the Garda being intimidated in that way that's horrible.

I am completely sober and completely aware that this "debate" is a load of guys getting their knickers in a twist over nothing.

And women trying to explain that unwanted verbal contact now being illegal is a bloody joke.

What is happening is that this type of HARRASSMENT will now be taken seriously.

Simple question did you call the Garda being intimidated in that way that's horrible.

Are you blindly not aware that the point of the police in the UK saying that this harassment will be taken seriously is that women CAN call the police and be taken seriously for being followed and having sexual stuff said to them?

I did not call the gardai as I knew it would not be taken seriously.
It is prevalent, happens to all women and is not taken seriously.
    You have no idea!

    That is the point !!!

    Na, she called her friend.

She supports a law that's written so vaguely, it could be used against a man for starting to chat up a girl in a bar.. But when the actual harassment that the law is intended for happens to her, which is already illegal anyway, she doesn't call the guards.
And she thinks that not supporting the law means we want to be allowed to harass her like what happened to her that night.

There's absolutely no point trying to debate this with an angry mistaken person.

The Police in the UK are not saying that sorry about that. It's one department that is abusing hate law. I expect very soon this to be changed as Police cannot legislate. You would be happy for the garda to just start interpreting and introducing laws they saw fit yes ?

It was the point of the law but it's not the point of this thread.

And stop say we're getting our knickers in a twist when you're the one going psycho.

    You've got me!

    Yer all fcuked so.

Better be careful out there lads. No more chatting up girls or ye'll all be locked up. Better yet, dont make eye contact at all.

Should reduce the population eventually, hopefully we can make it a worldwide law that stops all men from chatting up girls in a bar.

    :D

    Its terrible, really really terrible.

You're ridiculing and being sarcastic about the very law you're supporting..

    Congratulations, you played yourself.

I really hope that the next time you go out in nottingham you wont be too afraid to say hello to that lovely lass across the bar.
Just make sure that you approach slowly, dont make any sudden moves, keep your hands away from your crotch area just incase she sees it as unwanted contact.

She might call the police. LOL

Yes we should most violence is by men on men.

Yeah but most violence on women is by men too. So it's not so much about the victims maybe but more about the perpetrators.

I'm actually ridiculing your interpretation of it.

    There is no new law.

Mysogyny is now included in the previous law that covers harassment.

There has been no new law folks.

Seen as men very rarely report violence by women how do yo know ? If my partner beat me I would not feel very forthcoming to goto the Garda/

I was beaten and kicked by my stepdaughter while my partner held me from behind. When it got to the top of the stairs and I thought I was going down them I reached behind me and pulled her off me by the hair. I could have beat the two of them had I chosen to, instead I left the home. 2 weeks later I was in court facing a barring order. The judge heard from my partner that I was attacked and then I pulled her hair. Judge gave her a protection order.

    That was 5 years ago.
