Newbridge Silver and crystal are both shíte. Don't get them!

Hurley and sliotar, bodhran and tin whistle are good ideas

Half an hour with a prostitute just before they fly off?
    :pac:

Yeah, they're both presbyterians who don't drink, but they'd dice with HIV for a quickie with a junkie.
Does it have to be Irish? Would you not just get a fancy box of chocolates or something?
Hmm probably, but I think it should relate to Ireland in some way. Something interesting, charming or fun to remember their visit. Think I'll go with the hurleys agus sliotar.

An Aran jumper and a dildo, if they don't like the jumper they can go f*ck themselves.

And if they don't like the dildo, they can stick it up their arse.

I'm with the Bodhran and Tin Whistle brigade.

Honest answer? Foxford Wooden Mills blankets/throws are my go-to gift. Traditional Irish (the place was founded by nuns, you can't get more Irish than that ffs), but not tacky.

And they can bring it on the plane with them to keep them warm. It might edge over the 50 in shops, but not if you know the secret place to get them (at the factory :))

A book of Irish folklore tales. Eddie Lenihan's "Meeting the other crowd" is a good one if you can hunt down a copy.

The best thing is that the USA probably has the biggest peat reserves in the world and they don't even know it. If I ever get a Green Card I'll be rich. Rich I tell ya!!!

Would that be the Leitrim Bogs?

There's loads of stuff made out of bog oak. It can be expensive though, may not get much for your €50.

Get them a car insurance quote.

They'll get years of laughter out of it no doubt.

A friend gave me The Long Black Veil /The Chieftains which features Sting singing in Irish and other well known Irish songs by famous artists. Might be a good side gift if they yearn for the home country?

    Our local TD is Lowry.

Nobody knows how Lowry does it, but he will get anyone a medical card. You don't even have to ask for it. Spend five minutes in Lowry's company, and an envelope with a harp drops through your letterbox.

Civil servants love him. At one stage, they were leaking big local announcements to him before the government TDs in the constituency got wind of them. So Lowry would ring the newspaper and 'announce' a bigger budget for the local hospital, for example.

https://www.kilkennyshop.com/brands/wild-goose.html The Wild Goose stuff is lovely and might fit in the cases easier than a hurl.

Or if you wanted irish food, why not give Butler's, Lir, Lily OBriens etc?

Irish linen stuff in Kilkenny Shop Nassau Street. Can be tea towels, napkins and the like.

They can hide it away, or show it off, and it fits in the luggage handy, and it doesn't weigh a ton either.
