The Great Razor Blade 'Go Faster' Stripe conspiracy.

    The stripes don't actually make you shave faster, but they are the same principle - a con.

    The stripes are NOT on there to 'sooth your face with calming aloe vera', or anything like it.

    They are there to slowly dissolve a gooey glue like substance over your blades, rendering the blades grimy, icky and essentially useless after two or three goes, so that you will discard the razor and buy more!!

    It only took me ten years to figure this out.

    Akin to the 'blue line ' they had on toothbrushes, to tell you when it was time to replace them, the 'stripes,' only strip (yup, word-play) you of your reasonably hard earned monies!

    (Please note: Any comments about being scabby - coz you're only supposed to use these hugely expensive razors one or twice, will be reported to my mum)

    If you run the blade under the tap, it gets rid of the stuff off the blades. Just a little life hack for you there.

    No, the gunk is designed to to melt on contact with water, so using water doesn't work. I've tried.

    Aldi razors -with go super fast stripes and dodgy exhaust- are a good alternative. Failry cheap and good shave.

    I have started putting mine in a little airtight box and have noticed they last much longer.I reckoned it was leaving it sitting between shaves was causing the strips to dry out and the blades to dull.

    The metal in the Aldi ones is actually not too bad and lasts a while.

    The Tesco ones are terrible.

    I use my forearm to perform the same function, I push it up the inside my arm about a dozen times to clean the dirty blades and they last much longer

    Get yourself a double edged safety razor and the razor blades then. Can get like 100 blades for 20-30 euro. Would last you about a year if you shaved every day.

    I use Wilkinson sword extreme 3 disposable razors which if kept clean stay sharp and reliably useful for a couple of weeks per razor. I once tried Gillette and found after two uses the blade was bound for the bin, complete garbage, but I understand why they make their blades that way, to sell more blades, I won't be one of their customers though.

    Clean-shavedness is nonsense. No man needs a face like a baby's arse. Once or twice a week is more than enough to shave and who cares if it's baby smooth. It'll be stubbly by lunchtime anyway.

    You get a far better shave with a double-edged razor as well. The blades are incredibly good value and the idea that you cut yourself more often is nonsense.

    You can get a good double-edged razor, shaving brush, shaving soap and 50 blades (I love PolSilver Super Iridium blades) for less than 70 euro. It's an investment that pays itself back quickly in terms of quality of shave and value for money.

    used an aldi blade once ,caught an in grown hair and sliced a fair bit of my cheek off, was like a ham being sliced in a deli.

    hospital trip ensued, was rushed through triage due to deep laceration :D and i got a week off work as i was not allowed increase blood flow (which was great as i had bought batman arkham city the day before)

    When I go to India I stock up on the basic Mach 3 blades, not any of the various vibrating super powered yokes, just the standard ones.

    I bought about 40 blades for the equivalent of about €20 in May 2014 and I'm still only about half way through.
