Four police officers are dead after two snipers opened fire in what was reportedly a coordinated attack during a rally in Dallas, Texas. The rally was being held to protest the deaths of two black men this week at the hands of police. The Dallas Police Department tweeted a statement that an alleged suspect in the police shootings was involved in a shootout with Dallas SWAT officers and had been taken into custody.

A suspicious package was discovered near the suspect's location, which had been secured by the Dallas PD's bomb squad, the Dallas PD statement said. Dallas PD Chief David Brown said, "Tonight it appears that two snipers shot ten police officers from elevated positions during the protest/rally. Three officers are deceased, two are in surgery and three are in critical condition. An intensive search for suspects is currently under way. No suspects are in custody at this time. In a second statement, Brown said that an eleventh officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire with one of the suspects, adding that the officer was being transported to hospital.

A subsequent tweet by the Dallas PD said that a fourth officer had died. The tweet did not specify whether this officer was one of those previously reported to be injured.

And people thought the Rodney King riots were bad - what a polarising year this is going to be in the US.

    Soon, I would imagine.

Is that what you're concerned about? How petty. Have you no shame?

Can't wait to see how the NRA and its supporters try and spin how people having access to more guns and not restricting gun ownership in any way would have stopped this one

Some really crazy videos from it.. The police officer getting killed point blank. America has to be one of the most divided nations on Earth and it's getting worse and worse.

They won't be scrimping on the investigation. The man hunt. There'll be no half measures.
And then there's the Death Penalty.

You're really going all in - to go cop killer.

Although this situation is going to put ideas in people's minds.

The leftists have now found another way to turn the blame on middle class white males. It is now Gun Control Policies that are to blame.

Worked in Dallas a few times and it's a very "special" place. The general attitude is that they are keeping the law because is suits them and that's it.
It's no surprise to me that this would happen there.
If they ever try and tighten down on gun ownership Texas will be some challenge.

Gun control is only a left vs right wing issue in the states for, every other civilised country on the planet its simply a human issue where we can all look at the states and go "yeah probably best to restrict those"

Like something out of a movie. What ever about a few bad cookies, I don't think killing officers for there work is the correct way to go about things. They've some looneys in the US.

I don't know if it's a left right issue but it is definitely a white middle class issue. For generations, white men could move into the middle class without doing anything except joining the local factory/industry, steel, lumber, coal, oil etc. Now those jobs are done by machines AND equal rights are being extended to groups such as women and non-whites. The jobs market has come crashing down on white males and resentment towards non-white males is the result.

This explains the Brexit vote and the rise of Trump. America is an unhappy place at the moment

ISIS don't need to attack the US. They've got enough crazy going on there.

He said that there is a problem with institutionalized racism in policing in the US that needs to be looked at. Literally just after 4 cops got shot dead.

Obama is a disastrous president. A bigger war monger than Bush ever was and he has caused so much bad **** to happen in America by pandering to minority interest groups. If he was white the media would be destroying him on a daily basis for how crap/dangerous he is.

Ah, ****ty reporting from Radio 1 then. They had that speech as his response to the shootings of the cops.

Still doesn't change the fact that he is a crap president. Also, these shootings are pushing Trump closer to the White House.

He's not wrong but its not just one problem though that caused this, theres racism, gun control and mental health to name 3 that 2 of which usually can be shown as the source that likely lead up to this and most of the other shootings that have happened in recent years
