    The fucck Off Shore accounts.

Big news , all over the headlines. And then nothing, money talks, or shuts people up in this case.

One lad got arrested in that place.
But in reality, offshore investment accounts are perfectly legal, same as setting up shell companies.

If I was earning what they all earned I wouldn't want thousands to be paid in tax every week.

It wouldn't be surprising if terrorists tried to benefit financially from trading in options prior to causing a calamity.

Far be it from me to give financial advice to a terrorist, but they really ought to be doing this, if they are not already.

they are clever boys and girls. I'm sure they are aware of this.

They wouldn't be able to anyway. They would more than likely be from countries that are high risk and any due diligence checks that get done are fairly extensive so they would be handing themselves in

An incestuously close relationship with America, certainly helped them in the news suppression stakes.

Fair point, something similar happened with the protests in Bahrain.

Where have you got the figure of 200k deaths from? Are you mixing it up with the tsunami? Anywhere I've checked says between 20 and 30k killed in the Iran Quake

Just off the top of my head...

    The Haitian Earthquake.

    Brussels Airport Bombing.

    2004 Madrid Train Bombing.

    Liam Lawlor.

The 24/7 nature and relentless pace of news encourages us all to be forgettful.

Think he died in Russia a good few years back?

Why would these still be in the news? We know everything that is to be known, there's nothing more they can report

Yeh but they have a point . There mightn't be anything new to report but its weird how you never hear about them again really, like for instance you could say the same about the Paris attacks but I always seem to hear news reports referring back to the paris attacks even today.

I mentioned those stories because they were just a few examples I could think of of stories that were massive for a while and then slowly faded from consciousness, or quickly in the case of the airport bombing.Which is story that isn't finished, by the way.

I'd imagine a lot of people on the street can't recall the Madrid bombing at all.

Haiti was an interesting one because it was massive global news for a while and then after some fundraising and reporting the country went back to its familiar state of relative obscurity again. I'm sure, if you were to ask a person from Haiti if the effects of the quake are all over and done with, they'd probably have an interesting answer for you.

There was endless reporting on Liam Lawler for a time in the Irish media. Then he died. And that was that. Even though I'm sure some of the same carry on is continuing.

I understand the distinction between past stories that have run their course ,and current stories that can't catch the media's attention any more, despite how they once appeared to be of paramount importance.

What's there to know? He is either in jail or served his term.

I'll add the Corrib gas line, I remember all the new about the protests but not heard anything in a number of years.

The 796 kids that died in St. Mary's...once it came out they weren't found in a septic tank people seemed to stop caring that 796 children legitimately died and had no proper burial. An investigation was meant to be launched into mother and baby homes, there was meant to be a plaque for the kids...no follow up on excavating the site.

One would think a single home with 796 kids dead would be enough to expedite an investigation...

those 3 corrupt councillors RTE did a show on before Xmas

the lad who seemed the least dodgy resigned immediately, in Sligo.

but the Donegal and Monaghan lads are still there, still taking a salary as councillors. tells you a lot about those two counties I think.

Unusual trading patterns before the Twin Tower attacks.

Bare minimum reporting of the attack on The Pentagon is far more sinister.

In the months afterwards, one kid forgot to feed his goldfish and it starved to death, and a kitten drowned in Sallins. They grabbed the headlines.

Seriously, perspective. A case of animal cruelty is awful...but why on earth would it be in the news 9 months later?

The Console story reminded me of the former sports journo who took a shine to one of his daughter's friends. Whatever happened there?

Steorn, the Irish company that claimed to have made a perpetual power source.

I just Googled them, and although the original device failed its tests, they're now selling an everlasting battery and a phone that never needs charging!
